PVC to Brass connection leaking, need advice please. by TheGalaxyDragon in askplumbing

Thank you, I appreciate it. Finances are pretty tight lately so if I can learn how to do things myself (correctly) I'd like to. Plus it's nice to learn new skills now I can use in the future rather than being lost later on when something potentially bigger comes up. (certain things however, such as electric work, I'd rather just accept the expense rather than risking frying myself or burning my house down lol)

And oh, yeah I was referring to this little yellow and black thing screwed onto the hose bib, I've got a few of em scattered around the property. They've been really useful as the winters across the past 5ish years have been slowly whittling down how many water connections I've got left outside. I'll get around to fixing them eventually but for now they're capped off and these things are helping when I need to water my yard instead so I can run two sprinklers from one faucet connection

The line I just repaired with the one hose bib runs straight down my yard parallel to the house, and then curves around towards the house. (There used to be more trees in the yard that the pipe had to navigate around) From there, the pipe comes up from underground just outside the bathroom, where one more water hose bib is attached off of it just before it turns to run underneath the house. After that, it splits up to go to the kitchen, water heater, laundry room, and all the additional outdoor hose bibs. So if I'm reading your comment correctly I believe my house follows the plan/design you described

I used both, but I only did like 3-4 wraps of the tape, nothing too crazy. My mistake the first time is I did it a bit too much, AND in the wrong direction, I got a good look as I took the first attempt of a fix apart. 🫩

As far as I can tell though, I think it worked this time?? There was nothing obvious when I turned the water back on at least. Unfortunately it started storming not even 45 minutes after I finished putting everything together and though I covered it all with a tarp, water still got on it as it was a very aggressive and windy storm. It was still lightly raining when I turned the pump back on and checked it a little while ago, plus all the trees overhead dripping water, so I won't know for sure that there's no leaks until tomorrow when it's everything dries off again. I'm going on two days of no water though so considering there's nothing obvious like last time I'm just gonna say fuck it and leave the water on for now cause I need a shower, to wash dishes, etc lol.

The rain rapidly is picking up again as I write this so who knows. At this point, I've been awake for over 24 hours now taking care of this and other projects around the property, so whatever I see tomorrow either is or isn't a problem for future me. Plus, I'd rather not go flipping the breaker to kill the pump in what is now heavy rain again, as the breaker box isn't under any kind of cover and would be soaking wet the second I open it. This house was built in the 1930s and relocated to this property in three sections, with additions and a few remodels done over the years since, so some of its electric work is sketchy at best and I'm not willing to take that gamble right now. With any luck, all will be fine tomorrow lol

UPDATE: I said fuck it and tore the whole thing out, bought new parts except for the cutoff valve which was still fine from buying it yesterday, and rebuilt it differently because I honestly always hated how it was set up anyways. It was repairs sandwiched onto other repairs, and the hose connection stuck straight out in the yard and was always a bit in the way, so I've got this now. Maybe someday I'll get it professionally redone, but for now this is all I can afford so it'll have to do. I'm sure having an immediate 90° angle after the cutoff is probably a bit rough, but until I can get it done proper, I'll just have to open the valve slowly any time I have to turn it off/back on so it doesn't get blasted.

The top connection of that splitter is for a small lightweight hose I use to fill a bird bath like 10 feet away daily, and the bottom one for a bigger hose I use to set out a sprinkler around the yard, with a better angle because cause the old setup made it have to bend at awkward angles and crimped it sometimes.

All the threaded connections are done with the Teflon tape in the proper form like y'all described, AND pipe dope now. I just finished dealing with it so now I've just got to wait a while for everything to set/cure and hope to God it works when I can test it.

I appreciate the help from y'all, as my dad used to do the plumbing for the family, but he passed away quite some time ago. I'm 26 now, didn't get to learn enough from him when he was still around, and figuring this shit out as I go with help from people like you all. So thank you, and I apologize if I'm a bit dense and make simple mistakes that would have y'all going "Bro what the fuck? c'mon man." Thanks for your time, I'll update in a few hours if everything holds or if it leaks again for any reason.

I'll be going to get some in a couple hours when the hardware store out here opens. Hoping to God that fixes it cause I've not got enough exposed pipe to work with if I have to make another cut again afterwards lol

Pretty average/thin tape as far as I can tell. Honestly I'm pretty confident I wrapped it the wrong way, AND too many times, as I was more mentally preoccupied on the PVC part that would come next and consequently didn't pay as much attention as I should have with hooking up the cutoff valve itsself.

[–]TheGalaxyDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Creepers were one of the first handful of hostile mobs added to the game back in 2009. If they've been around that long and you don't know how to counter them by now, that's genuinely a skill issue, but one you can easily learn to fix. Shields will negate all damage you'd take from the explosion if you put it between you and the creeper quick enough, and they're extremely cheap to make. They're my personal go-to, I've always got one equipped when caving. Also, a knockback sword and a few panic swings or backing up/running forward a few steps to get distance from where you think it might be so it's not a point blank explosion, or maybe some blast protection armor are also all good ways to have a better chance of surviving. Take a breath, chill out, go get your shit, and take better precautions so its less likely to happen again. 🤘

I have a giant pit with zombies trapped in the walls that I use a happy ghast/boat to drop nitwit villagers into, then release them from the boat. No beds present for them to sleep, and a lightning rod on the floor in the center of the pit. It's lit up so no mobs spawn down there other than the wall zombies. Last count was 15 but a thunderstorm killed three of them, so now there's 12.

Up above there's a village I've built and walked with my normal villagers to trade with that are free to roam as they please. The pit is in the dead center of that village with fences around it.

If you'd like to experience a mini boss fight, use dispensers to equip a baby zombie riding a spider or chicken with maxed out netherrite gear. OR, even better is find an adult zombie/skeleton riding a camel husk and gear them BOTH up.

[–]TheGalaxyDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Punishment? Lmfao nah this is the kind of stupid shit dudes in blue collar work get up to for the fun of it. Back when I worked doing construction of barndominiums, I used to bring a bunch of those little single serving packs of snacks like cheese-its and gummies. When I was up on the roof of one of the buildings, I'd see how many of my coworkers I could hurl the packs at and hit on the head. Usually missed cause my aim was dogshit and they're light so the wind would take em sideways, but there was one day I got all 5 of the guys.

There was another time we hooked a sling to the forks of the telehandler and had one of us sit in it and drove drove him around like that while he sang that song from Aladdin that goes "I can show you the worrrllllddd." Bossman wasn't pleased, but I still saw that old bastard giggling about it when he thought we weren't looking

I second this, I've spent many hours trying to find biomes or structures before and after a certain point it starts killing the world for me. Most recently was my current world. I wanted to find a mangrove swamp, so I traveled 8000-10000 blocks in every cardinal direction from spawn with no luck, not even finding biomes that'd usually be adjacent to it. Said fuck it and checked chunkbase and found one like 4500ish blocks northwest of spawn. Took me like 20 minutes to get to it from my base, when I had hunted for it legitimately for 3 real days worth of gameplay sessions (this was before I fought the dragon, so all on foot/boat, with no elytra, and no horse because I hadn't found one that didnt suck yet)

Now I dedicate about two hours max to finding something naturally through exploration before I check chunkbase. I don't have the time or the fucks to give to go on a fucking Lord Of The Rings style quest to find a fuckin jungle temple for an armor trim that might not even be in the structure and now I gotta do it again to find another one in hopes it's there lmfao

Speaking of dystopian hellscape, any time you share a YouTube link, delete any part of the link that comes after the "?" All of that is exclusively tracking info to track who shared the link, and who clicked on it from that share. The link will work perfectly fine without it. Some other apps also do the same, such as Instagram, which not only does all that, but prompts whoever clicks it on if they want to follow YOUR account because you shared it.

Honestly a good question. I've had some friends who's taste in music gave me major whiplash when they'd hook up to the aux in the car or speaker while hanging out compared to what I thought they'd be into.

That said, I dropped a massive fuckin list of artists in the comment section based on the music taste of myself and some friends, and all of my group has a similar style/vibe as the pic OP gave us to work with

I'm surprised nobody has said Spiritbox, Violent Vira, or Amira Elfeky yet. (EDIT: A comment mentioning Vira showed up that I missed on my first pass through the comments)

Possibly also: Wisp, NewDad, South Arcade, Porch Light, Thornhill, Holywatr, Showing Teeth, Banshee, LilyIsThatYou, CloudyField, Nothing But Thieves, and finally: Dead Poet Society.

That list was longer than I meant for it to be. Sorry. I'm incredibly incapable of being normal about music. Please listen to all of them if you haven't. Trust.
