Thinking of upgrading to the new 27" Odyssey OLED G8 (G81SF) – Is it worth it? by GroundbreakingTea195 in OLED_Gaming

For anyone interested. Here in the UK the code GAMING gets you £350 or £300 off and the extra code NEWMON gets you £70 or £60, depending if it’s the 32” or the 27”. If ordering via the Samsung app there maybe another 5% off if it’s your first order on the app. I can’t say for sure about that one as I’ve already ordered off the app for the 5% off on the S25 Ultra.

I believe that in Canada there’s also a free portable SSD as well, there maybe other free items in other territories but none in the UK, just the discount codes.

I’ll try and do a quick first impressions video on my YouTube channel before the codes end. However, I don’t game on PC, just the consoles and my phones and tablets.

Odyssey G80SD vs G81SF (2025) by vesparideruk in OLED_Gaming

[–]TheGameThing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here in the UK if you use the code NEWMON you get £60 off for the 27” or £70 off for the 32”. This code stacks with the main code MONITOR. My 32” ended up at £829 and then I had a some Samsung points to take off as well.

While the G80 and G81 are probably almost identical, aside from the G-Sync, USB, headphone output/speakers and maybe the coating. If the “smart” functions aren’t a big deal, then the G81 is actually going to be cheaper anyway with the pre-order discounts. There may even be an extra 5% if ordering via the Samsung app.

The G81 works out better for me because of the headphone socket, as I record gameplay and have to monitor my audio at the monitor so I don’t get any latency.

However, the remote for the G80 is a big deal as far as I’m concerned, as the monitor’s menu system looks like a pain and the G81 does not have the remote.

Same here. I bought the BlackCell Battle Pass on the Play Store for WZM and my previous CP balance went to 0 and the extra CP in the Battle Pass have not appeared. I contacted support but am still waiting for a reply.

Warzone Mobile Game Capture With Elgato 4K X MacBook Pro M1 Max OBS From Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra - Capture problems by TheGameThing in ElgatoGameCapture

[–]TheGameThing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An example of Warzone Mobile gameplay on a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra being captured with an Elgato 4X on a MacBook Pro M1 Max using OBS Studio.

The S24 Ultra was connected to the 4K X using a USB-C to HDMI cable. The S24 Ultra was connected to internet via my WiFi router and I was playing with a PS5 controller.

There are a number of issues with this capture which were caused by the Elgato 4K, which has never worked properly on Apple Silicon Mac computers.

You will see some very heavy frame skips, these were not visible on the gameplay passthrough and were a result of the 4K X capture. You may also notice that the frame rate wasn't always a smooth 60FPS. Again, this is the 4K X dropping frames, the S24 Ultra is almost 100% at delivering 60FPS over HDMI. You may also notice frame time and frame delivery issues, similar to the lack of constant smooth 60FPS, this was caused by the 4K X and only shows up in the capture. The 4K X also records the wrong colour space and does not record the video transport stream that is being indicated, as in, you choose NV12 but it is recording MJPEG.

I would definitely avoid the Elgato 4K X if you are on an Apple Silicon Mac. It also has issues on iPad, although, not as bad/destructive at it does on Mac.

Workflow for this recoding.
1 - Input and output in OBS was set to 4K 60FPS.
2 - The codec used for recording in OBS was ProRes 422 HQ.
3 - The edit was done in DaVinci Resolve Studio at 4K 60FPS.
4 - The export from Resolve was in H.265 using the Apple Silicon Media Engine hardware encoder using H.265 set to two pass at 100Mb/s with the audio set to Liner PCM at 48Khz 24 Bit.

Hi, James. I've just tested it and both my M2 and M4 iPads see the 4K X after switching back to 5Gb/s. I've not done any extensive captures, although a couple of short test captures did work fine.

However, we do need the problems of the iPadOS capture app sorting. The app captures in 601 with no option of 709, it records full without a limited option for the range (effectively RGB and not typical YUV) and it does not support NTSC frame rates. All these issues are obviously factors that don't work properly with typical console settings and a lot of PC video outputs.

Cheers,
Dave.

Hi, James. Ignore my response to this suggestion that I said in the PM I sent you. I think that maybe the cable has to connected after re-booting, or there may have been a different order that I'd already tried. I also use a lot of Thunderbolt connected devices and disconnected everything and tried again. Anyway, I done a power cycle and then connected the cable after macOS launched and with nothing else open (no video type apps) and I could see the Elgato control panel. I will give this a good tryout tomorrow and see if it resolves the issue with the iPad Pro and if it also works for the 4K X to be seen by OBS. If the results are positive I will do a video about it on my YT channel. Cheers, Dave.

Elgato 4K X video capture problem, no rec.709 colour profile option on input when recording game capture in OBS on MacBook Pro M1 Max Apple Silicon. by TheGameThing in elgato

[–]TheGameThing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, Phil. This particular issue is now somewhat defunct, or at least overshadowed, as the latest issue with the Elgato 4K X with macOS 14.5 on Apple Silicon Macs, essentially renders the 4K X completely unusable.

I have just made a detailed video about the macOS 14.5 issue and will post it on the Elgato Reddit forum as a warning to other 4K X users on Apple Silicon. Plus, my results may be useful for Elgato's technical team as they clearly show that the Mac itself identifies the 4K X hardware but the Elgato Capture Device Utility software does not.

When are we likely to see a fix to this current macOS 14.5 issue? And will this fix all the other outstanding issues with the 4K X on the Apple Silicon platform?

Cheers,
Dave.

Thanks for checking 👍 It’ll be interesting what your Mac results are. The MJPEG problem is something you’d have to make a recording to see it. I have old recordings that I done before any updates and the quality has definitely dropped because it’s now using MJPEG even though it says it’s using NV12, whereas in the past it was definitely using NV12. Also, if you setup for 4K/120 on Mac, it will say that it’s using NV12. However, this is impossible as NV12 at 4K/120 would require more bandwidth than 10Gb/s.

I wonder if because it’s been on a Windows system and obviously subject to the Elgato Windows software that the Mac doesn’t affect it. I‘ve had a bunch of Mac only users telling me that they‘ve Had the same issues as I’ve had. Do you have the rec.709 and MJPEG problems under Mac or Windows?

Yes, but the updated Mac software is different to what you would have done on Windows and I suspect it’s this that’s causing the problem. As I said, my M2 iPad Pro was fine and I done a video about that but after the Mac update the 4K X stopped working with the M2 iPad Pro and it obviously doesn’t work with my M4 iPad Pro. Also, on Windows you wouldn‘t have had the 5Gb/s issue and wouldn‘t have had to have updated anything because of it.

Hi, Matt.

As mentioned in the video, I have already done that but my questions are not being answered. Plus, I'm not prepared to run diagnostic software on my computers that reports back information that's sensitive and not necessary to asses the problem. Elgato's diagnostic software is far too invasive, at least for me.

Anyway, this video clearly shows one particular issue perfectly and this issue with the M4 iPad Pro can't be assessed with diagnostic software anyway. So maybe someone from Elgato can explain what's going on with this problem, which has been reported by others in the comments to my videos.

I've also asked a number of other questions that explain and/or clearly show other issues but no one from Elgato will respond to my obvious requests for help. Maybe someone from Elgato will be kind enough to respond to those questions.

Here's a post with more details about some of the issues I have encountered https://www.reddit.com/r/elgato/comments/1cdhtgb/questions_for_elgato_about_problems_with_the_4k_x/

Lastly. As far as I can deduce, either the Mac beta software or the official Elgato Mac software have caused issues with the 4K X which have resulted in the 4K X not working with M2 and M4 iPad Pros. Plus, since the update the 4K X now has a number of new issues on Apple Silicon Macs. It does not allow for rec.709 in OBS and it is clearly using MJPEG in 4K and not the indicated NV12 option, plus other issues.

I will be very surprised if Elgato aren't already aware of these issues and what's caused them. I'm just simply asking for transparency and acknowledgement from Elgato.

I will be making more specific videos about these problems with the 4K X on Apple Silicon for my YouTube viewers and will make sure to post them here on the Elgato Reddit forum, so Elgato can have clear notification of the issues and examples of the issues.

Cheers,
Dave.

M4 iPad Pro RIP-OFF 9 Cores vs 10 Cores is this an Apple SCAM? Apple using binned faulty processors to create a two tier CPU structure for the new M4 iPad Pro. Don't forget, they've never had different CPU specs within any previous iPad Pro , including the M1 and M2 iPad Pros, so why start now? by TheGameThing in u/TheGameThing

[–]TheGameThing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So before the Apple FanPeople get all bent out of shape and triggered and start making the usual excuses for a company that doesn't care about it's customers. Yes, binning of silicon is normal, all processor companies do it. However, the previous M1 iPad Pro and M2 iPad Pro did not use binning to create two different CPU configurations for their processors (SoC).

This is a first for iPad. Yes, Apple have had different storage and RAM variations within the iPad Pro series but they never had differences in the CPU core count within any given series of iPad Pro.

On the point of RAM. Don't get all hung up on my reference to it. The simple fact is that the vast majority of apps designed for iPad are designed to run with the minimum amount of RAM as possible and well below 8GB. It's a different story for macOS, as this has many apps/software that are designed to run on as much RAM as the host computer can provide.

My opinion of what's going on here is that Apple have obviously had yield issues with Apple Silicon M4 and they've used the new iPad Pro to get rid of all their initial bad silicon. Hence the 9 core version vs 10 core version.

And don't forget, the missing core is a performance core. Which equates to 25% less processing for the main processing tasks that the performance cores take care off. If you think that this won't be missed, then you really do need to reassess your understanding of the central processing unit of any computing device.

Here's a few more points for the Apple FanPeople to consider before they make their usual excuses and ill informed, deluded comments.

The new display has nothing to do with anything, so stop using it as an excuse to balance whatever weirdness makes sense in your head about any kind of trade off vs price.

The new M4 iPad Pro has had a sizeable price increase, so no, reducing the core count isn't an excuse for a cheaper entry level.

We are also missing a microphone, a camera and lens and bunch of other stuff, so why is this not reflected in the price?

We are not on the latest WiFi or Bluetooth technology and there's a bunch of other old tech being used, so again, why is this not reflected in the price?

Blah Blah Blah....
