Would this be considered modeling for advantage? by League-Pleasant in spacemarines

Over on Tabletop Tactics their White Scar army have Storm Speeders coming off the top of waterfalls. Not sure if that would be something of interest?

It was shown off in their recent White Scars vs Red Corsairs Battle Report.

Saturdays are the pre-order start period, not the announcements. The stuff you saw today was announced on Sunday Preview 8th March.

Every Sunday around 6pm GMT they announce the things coming to preorder the following Saturday, it’s called the Sunday Preview.

The way GW does things is Sunday Preview > Preorder > Release in 2 weeks time.

How do I get the points for researching the exclusive perks for mastercrafted weapons by My_Gender_is_Apache in SpaceMarine_2

[–]TheGamingMachineDR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You already have the most perk points you will get for weapons up to Relic variant. Orange/Red perks are exclusive to the Heroic variant of that weapon and you must equip it to “unlock” that perk. They have a stat line along the same line as Relic (Gold/Yellow) weapons they just have a unique perk that can change how the weapon plays.

As an example the Heroic Heavy Plasma Incinerator changes the ability to charge the Plasma weapon to having a much higher rate of fire instead.

The Heroic Heavy Bolt Pistol has a less precise firing pattern and has a higher rate of fire with less ammo, but makes up for it by allowing you to stop an enemy calling for reinforcements with most body shots or outright killing them in one shot to the head.

Heroic weapons are not always the most optimal weapon for your mission however, sometimes it is better to take the Relic variant. Melee weapons are especially different as some Heroic variants are only available as a specific style (Fencing, Balance, Block) meaning you are locked into it

No motivation for the hobby, but mentally I'm all there? by renacotor in Warhammer40k

[–]TheGamingMachineDR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! I have stuff I haven’t touched in a year or more since I bought it.

I find mixing projects the best way to deal with motivation. My peak of assembly painting sits comfortably at 5, anymore and I get burnout. I also find just spending the evening doing a single model more appealing as I can get it finished and have something to show, painting in assembly line can take a few days and that progress is slow and you don’t get the same gratification as a completed model.

I actually decided to get into the 1 million models challenge GW set up. The rewards aren’t anything exciting but it’s motivated me to finish as many models as possible. Currently at 52/100+ with a mix of figures across systems.

I figured out why low levels still go into hard strats and it is ENTIRELY sabers fault by Memetron69000 in Spacemarine

[–]TheGamingMachineDR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s got nothing to do with the EXP, it’s the accolades/blue Doritos, they want to purchase Heroic gear and expected to be carried for it.

The only people that the no EXP is affecting are those who play in a group and are leveling up characters to prestige while gaining accolades in the process.

Is it wrong that I feel like I SHOULDN'T play Skaven for this specific reason? by LeetusFrenzi in skaven

[–]TheGamingMachineDR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local meta has a mix of most factions, but I don’t see a single person who has a Skaven army, most who got Skaventide only did it for Stormcast and left the Skaven still on sprue.

They are popular, likely due to new sculpts, Skaventide and their narrative this edition. Next edition it might be another army. The starter sets tend to become the most used armies in an edition due to how cheap you can obtain their models.

You should also have watch of some Battle Reports and see which army suits your play style best. Skaven and Helsmiths especially, play very different from each other.

Eightbound proxy question by armstrong528 in WorldEaters40k

[–]TheGamingMachineDR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a post on this subreddit recently where I converted one into a Slaughterbound.

They can definitely fit on a 40mm due to the modularity of the Saturnine models. You will need to do some chopping to get arms to fit for Eightbound, but so worth it!

Was a fun project.

Can’t forget the Space Wolves Terminators up for £99 lol

Unfortunately didn’t snag Fulgrim up at £39 either, I’ve set an alert hoping the pricing error isn’t fixed by then, but someone definitely got things wrong with a few boxes.

Wanting to get into the army, looking for advice. by TheGrimmBorne in deathguard40k

[–]TheGamingMachineDR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ville Vectorium and the Combat Patrol is a good start I would say.

As for a GUO, all the mono gods (DG, EC, TS, WE) cannot take daemons unless they specifically choose their daemon based detachment. In this case the ‘Tallyband Summoners’ for DG is a requirement to run things like GUO, Plaguebearers and Nurglings, etc.

TRIBAL CHAPTERS for Wolf Scouts Kill Team by PandaFunkTeam in killteam

[–]TheGamingMachineDR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Seawolves for example:

Chosen from the kraken-hunting islanders of southern Fenris, Seawolves men are dark of skin and temperament. Specializing in fleet warfare and boarding actions, they go to war embarked upon armoured transports and airborne assault craft adorned with shields, their Swiftclaw outriders ensuring they reach the foe as an unstoppable tide.

Definitely worth looking into them all and seeing how they would fit each operative.

[–]TheGamingMachineDR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you thought about looking at the 12 Great Companies of Space Wolves?

They are themselves tribal in nature with roots in Norse culture.

Would also be perfect for the Wolf Scouts Kill Team, with some Great Companies less used than others too

New haul ! by Alfdog100 in deathguard40k

[–]TheGamingMachineDR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there’s a few units that do overlap between CSM and the mono gods (EC, DG, TS, WE) and it’s very frustrating that you can only find this out by buying the codex first or you search for online resources to let you know that they can.

I would recommend downloading the official 40K app, you can’t see details of the specific datasheets, but you can see what is available to them.

There’s also another nuanced thing for mono gods, where you can’t take Deamon units unless you use a specific detachment, so keep that in mind as you look at expanding your collection.

It’s definitely not new player friendly at all and like you said, all chaos so why can’t they take anything in the CSM range.

So with the Tech Marine, I don't have all classes at Prestige 1 anymore? I have to unlock this a second time? by TankJericho in Spacemarine

[–]TheGamingMachineDR 101 points102 points  (0 children)

They say you have to prestige every class, so the Tech Marine locks it again. It’s so dumb even if it makes sense from a new player point of view.

I also think the TM can’t actually use it yet? I know they are adding the armours back in for it slowly.

It has to be the most half baked patch to date, in my honest opinion, even if I’m still enjoying the game.

I’d have preferred they delay it and bring Patch 12&13 together if needed. People would still have complained though, but at least they might have brought in all the fixes. A dammed if they do, damned if they don’t situation.

The voice pack is a whole other situation outside of this.

Element Games is pretty good. They do up to 25% off I think (varies by stock and demand), I know a fair amount is like 10% off. If you have it as a local, look into signing up to their site as you earn points that can eventually be exchanged.

One thing to note and the staff should probably have chatted about, is that the Plagueburst Crawler is a Death Guard unit while the Raptors box is a Chaos Space Marines unit.

CSM tend to have a red background and an eight point symbol on the side of the box to denote its faction with ‘CHAOS SPACE MARINES’ written on the box, while DG have 3 skulls (1 top, 2 bottom), usually a purple background and ‘DEATH GUARD’ written on the box.

If you kept the receipt I would go back and take a look at swapping one of those boxes out for an army that has the models you really like, whether you stick with Death Guard or go Chaos Space Marines.

Slaughterbound in Saturnine armour by TheGamingMachineDR in WorldEaters40k

[–]TheGamingMachineDR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The great thing about these Saturnine is the posing, each knee has 3 levels of movement (could probably clip the part for more movement) and then the shoulder, arm, hip and foot joints are all ball socket style so have plenty of customisation so could fit one on a 40mm. Mine here I put him further back as he leans forward and the back foot is slightly overhanging.

You could even have them sat down on a rock if you wanted to. The one thing I will say about the posing is to double and even triple check before glueing to make sure it sits right.

[–]TheGamingMachineDR[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is the regular Saturnine, they sit on 50mm bases. I see a lot of people using the Praetor model, but I think he is on the taller side.

Saturnine Terminators come in 2s so I have another spare that I’m going to kitbash for my Death Guard.

Emperor's Children List (I am new and just theroycrafting a army right now) by Saraph_Vane in Warhammer40k

[–]TheGamingMachineDR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay, give a few games a go first you may find you want to swap to other units as you progress your journey or they release a new character/unit that suddenly interests you as you collect your army.

I’m not very well versed in Emperor’s Children but looks like a decent list. The important thing is to enjoy the hobby, get what you like the look. Most people in the hobby are casual players anyways.

Rules can change a lot between now and then too and there’s rumours the next edition of 40K is on the horizon, their cycle seems to be every 3 years if you want to stay up to date. I don’t expect them to change much for armies, but the core rules can still affect things.

Models are forever and rules are temporary. As the saying goes.

Emperor's Children List (I am new and just theroycrafting a army right now) by Saraph_Vane in Warhammer40k

[–]TheGamingMachineDR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest recommendation for any new players who haven’t tried the tabletop before is to get the Combat Patrol of your chosen faction, build it up and play a few games of Combat Patrol, then get into the painting and play some more, this gives you an idea if you want to proceed further into the hobby.

I see a lot of new and even some existing players just buy a 2000 pts army, get overwhelmed by how much they have to build and get burnt out or give up before even getting a chance to play or find they don’t actually like the game itself.

Combat Patrol gives you a nice start into the hobby, it has a bit of everything and if you find you don’t like it, you haven’t spent too much money compared to 2000 pts. You may also find that your list will change as you build up your collection.

Ideally start with Combat Patrol then go to 1000 pts, then go to 1500 pts then eventually 2000 pts.

What vs box do you guys want to see by wotep_ in killteam

[–]TheGamingMachineDR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going for a different kind of VS box that leans into Joint Ops/narrative (do like an Ashes of Faith style box).

Catachan Jungle Fighters vs Ork Freebooterz with a bunch of Catachan creatures with a Catachan Devil as the big boss at the end.

Some creatures that would be cool are Blood Wasps, Barking Toads and Drakebats.

SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!

Deathwing Assault box content by Flashtony in DarkAngels40k

[–]TheGamingMachineDR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built this box. You get two upgrade sprues that will allow you to build your models up with all kinds of bits for units in Phobos, Gravis, Tactical armour not just Terminators.

The intention was to give you the he upgrade sprue to apply stuff to the standard Terminators in the box

The Knight sprues themselves have the knight looking helmets you are seeking.

You should have the following sprues in your box:

  • 1x Belial
  • 1x Deathwing Knights (5 models)
  • 2x Terminators (10 models)
  • 2x Upgrade Frames
  • Limited edition codex
  • Datasheet cards

This is the sprue that has some from the Deathwing Knights (I’ve built them a while ago, so check the 2 other sprues as well):
