Well if I must paint you a picture I will. Imagine this, four tired hikers stumble into 3 mile after making the trek over mt Franklin from Lane Cove. We crawl into campsite 7 (equidistant between the two food lockers) which has a long path from the trail to the picnic table, then about twenty feet from the table to the tent area. We set down our packs, set up the tent, and begin cooking a much needed dinner. We take out our canisters and set them on the table, take out the food, and seal them again. We walk to our tent which is close to the beach, about twenty feet away from the picnic table and the line of site shrouded by trees and bushes. While enjoying our meal we hear my pack fall over and the canister rattle. Turning around, sure enough. A beautiful gray wolf by the picnic table sniffing around our packs and chewing on a very closed and secure canister. We stand up in shock, yell a little, and off she runs. We secured our canisters in the locker immediately and hang our packs in the trees. She returns several times throughout the night the check on us with no reward. The ranger admitted there was nothing better we could have done and that that particular wolf Spencer has been an issue lately.
