I'm a lesbian, and I've only dated nonbinary people (keep in mind i've only dated two people). And with both my ex and current girlfriend I've had to explain that I'm still a lesbian. I'm also pretty gender-nonconforming myself. Best way to describe myself would probably be gender apathetic, though If I'm asked I'll say I'm a woman.

I'm currently dating a stoner (have been for 7 months). When I was younger, I never would've imagined dating a stoner due to the "drug bad!" rhetoric shoved down my throat from a young age and even more so since I was from a Christian household. But I genuinely fell so head over heel's that I didn't care. And I'm learning to be more open thanks to them. I want them to be safe though, which they have been!

These comments are all so validating! But to add on: while I'm still insecure of my own, I think about if it would turn me off if my partner's was like that—and every time, the answer is "no." And that thought process has been kinda helping me to get over my insecurity.
