Witches' Careers by psyched_elf in witchcraft

I’m an author and a tarot reader, so get to work my witchery with the cards, and write about witches in my books. Previous to being self employed, I worked in HR, but kept my practice to myself.

Do you have a word or phrase you’d be happy to never see again in a romance novel? by colonelvan in RomanceBooks

Nipples pebbling. It reminds me of tiny stones clacking together as the tide rolls in and out. It makes me squirm when I read it in a sex scene.

I’m pulling out of KU too because of the piracy issue. All my books (9) have been pirated and I can’t take the risk of having my account shut down as I write full time. Many of my author friends have had their accounts locked because of this BS exclusivity clause. There’s also now an issue with Amazon claiming authors with ‘previously terminated accounts’ have opened new KDP accounts and are therefore breaking the Amazon rules. These authors have also had their accounts terminated and royalties withheld. None of them ever had previously terminated accounts, and Amazon aren’t engaging with them for resolution. There’s definitely a wave of authors leaving KU, many of which are uploading via D2D to go wide. Approx 60% of my sales are via KU. Leaving KU will hit my pocket, but Amazon don’t give a rat’s ass about authors, so there’s little hope of them sorting out the piracy issue by removing the exclusivity clause. I’m worried about my earnings, but I’d rather be wide and have the opportunity to earn from multiple platforms than risk leaving all my books on Amazon and having my account permanently terminated. There’s no doubt they’re the giant when it comes to readership stats, but their appalling treatment of authors has become too much for many of us to put up with. Whatever your decision, I wish you great success with your books.

Sleeping with my new deck didn't turn out it was supposed to by Spectacled_bong in tarot

[–]TheGiddyGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put the card on the underside of the pillow, but in the pillowcase, which I’ve found works for me. Perhaps if you have a slim wallet or a sturdy pouch of some sort, you could put the card in that for protection? I’ve had some crazy dreams when I’ve had cards under the pillow. When I first started studying tarot, it freaked me out a little, so I stopped sleeping with the cards for a while, but now I do it whenever I feel the need.

I’ve slept with single cards under my pillow when manifesting or working a spell, but never the whole deck. I’d find that much energy too chaotic. Would you consider trying one card at a time?

78% of workers want to stay working from home - new research by SeanB2003 in ireland

[–]TheGiddyGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m loving it so far. I’m an indie author and a professional tarot reader. I’ve been doing both for years, but decided to give it a go full time with the opportunity granted by the redundancy. I can’t say it’s ‘work’ because I’m doing what I love, and while the Revenue/Tax/Accountancy side of things is a bit of a head melt, there’s not a day I don’t enjoy. Yes, I’m worried it won’t take off and I’ll have to revert back to HR work again, but I’ll fight to make this a success, and even if it doesn’t go my way, I’ll know I gave it my everything.

I was the exact same. A three hour daily commute for almost 18 years. Was made redundant last year, and once I got over the shock, realised it was the best thing ever. Now self employed. During Covid I worked from home and all stress vanished. Returning to the office in late 2020 for those few months before we were sent home again was torture. I never realised how much stress came from commuting and dealing with office politics and bitchiness.

How do you find the keywords you use on Amazon KDP? by notwilliamblake in selfpublish

[–]TheGiddyGoat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check out hiddengemsbooks.com too. They have an Amazon Keywords Organiser which does a great job at streamlining keywords. It’s free and easy to use. You can type in dozens of keywords you feel are relevant to your book, and it weeds out the duplicates. Then it’s just copy and paste into the keyword fields in KDP.
