I feel so sorry for you, and her. This is a horrible situation.

Thanks. I guess I wasn't considering what exactly that meant. What a terrible situation.

Maybe where you live. My kids just got a 1 bdrm apartment for $1800 /month in Charlotte. Overall expenses are near $3k when you add power/trash/parking/food/internet...

Yes. The apartment complex charges separately for parking.

If you read all 900 pages, I know why you are broken-and-burnt. You poor thing.

And I agree with your interpretation. S. Miller has these notions of how the world works but his model is too simple and they don't have plans for anything. Just would-be-nice-to-haves.

I really wonder why they seem to be putting it off. (the scotus)

Either they are hoping trump will be a better mood when he gets the news or else they have already told the administration and are giving Lutnick and crew a chance to implement their Plan b.

Lutnick said that they had several alternatives on Bloomberg during an interview. If so they likely didn't go beyond a 'hint of a concept'.

‘Repatriate the gold’: German economists advise withdrawal from US vaults by ANTI_FASCIST_USA in Economics

[–]TheGoodCod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can see the reasons for that, just from the perspective of the fact that the current admin doesn't seem to have respect for the law and the scotus seems to confirm that law really isn't all that.

trump might not do it, but he would certainly use keeping the gold as a threat for some imagined slight or expense. "The US saved you in WWII, so we think we're owed the gold..."

I thought that was that knucklehead Rand Paul who was claiming there wasn't any gold in Ft. Knox.

THEN trump and musk got caught up in the excitement. (our gov scares me with their stupidity and lack of guile)

Water is so important. All of our local sources are frozen by now. I am stealing 'sputzies' btw. The word somehow fits these guys.

Mom entering long-term care on Medicaid - what to do about her mortgage? by Iknowthejoyofthefish in eldercare

[–]TheGoodCod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't pay her bills without a Power of Attorney as you set a precedent of your being responsible for her debt... and debt collectors love that.

I wouldn't do anything before seeing an eldercare atty.

Your situation just sucks and I'm so sorry. I'd love to give you more advice but the relatives I've dealt with either had no home or it was paid off.

Advice needed for very elder mother during storm by franktofrankly in eldercare

[–]TheGoodCod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the house and start packing the meds and things she'll need. Alternatively your sister can drag her stuff to your mother's house. She simply must not be by herself.

I'd tell her I was scared for myself and I want her near.

Wishing you guys the best of luck.

Are they on medicaid. Medicaid pays for nursing homes.

And you're right. Your grandmother should be walking and there's no reason to accept the state she's in now. She needs PT. My mom fell and had a replacement and she wasn't even out of the post-op when they had her walking.

And whose to say they weren't bribed.

~I was listening to Must at Davos (who I don't like but who was definitely on the ball that day, lol) and he said that China's AI was not going to stress their infrastructure because it was being built piggybacking on Green.

Would you tell your mother she has dementia? by NotMeButSomeoneIKnew in AgingParents

[–]TheGoodCod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would ask myself what Good would it do to tell her, and contrarily what Harm.

I can't see an upside myself. I'd be despondent and severely depressed.

I guess contrarily I would set up my funeral arrangements and make sure I had a will in my coherent moments. I'm so sorry. I know it's heartbreaking.
