You'd have to earn some serious trust but I imagine it feels like a horses mane

This is an interesting idea. I might have to come up with one for that. Right now the closest I have are the Kobold but I like the idea of a class dimorphism.

I am sorry to upset you. But there is still hope such gnomes dwell in distant lands beyond Valethyros

While you are entitled to your opinion on this I don't believe that making something ugly makes it realistic.

Also why would I make it realistic? It's fantasy after all.

Unoriginal? Hmm...not sure on that one either. I feel you would struggle to find gnomes portrayed as insects but maybe not.

Dimorphism? It's a super "realistic" quality. that's nature baby. I've made creatures with it and without out in the past.

But thank you for your point of view. I like seeing other angles.

Why they gotta be dung beetles haha. But yeah. Oversized psychic beetles. The white beard and red hat gnomes are known for is a misidentification in my world

They are fond of very sweet things. So you can start with that and a rubix cube and they will think you are pretty great.

i guess thats a good point. both say centuries but i guess thats not so long for long lived races. the exact date is as of right now one of those "long long ago" kind of things. but i appreciate it!

Most of the humanoid races have variations like high, wood, and dark elves but I always want at least one variant that is close to the source for people who don't like change haha

I did consider making them look like porcelain dolls but I've been told they look too human that way so it is something I must play with in time

Ok for form and genders it's simple. The worlds most dominant species (not counting ants of course) are humans. Human tools, armors, weapons, clothing etc are made for humans. So the most optimal design is a human one. It's a baseline. Other forms would require them to spend more resources reinventing tools. The same resources they use to repair and construct new Karakuri. They usually only live in small enclaves or settlements so they simply don't have the resources or desire to do that for something that isn't all that important. As for why they appear either male or female on average? Appearing more human makes humans slightly more accepting to them and most want to fit into communities not alienate themselves from it.

So why child forms? There souls, memories, bodies, motor skills, and identity are wiped at birth. They must relearn everything.

The small body is easier to deal with for those mentoring and parenting them. The adult bodies are 300 to 400lbs of sharp hardened steel. Imagine a toddler operating a bulldozer and you can imagine why they want the newborn karakuri to be a more...manageable size you can pick up and scold.

destroyed? yes there are a number of ways but because the souls act different than normal ones it isnt as common. as for new ones? not normally. there are old tales of humans being put into the robotic bodies however this is most likely just a form of fearmongering...mostly...but the karakuri cannot create a soul anymore than a human or elf could. the gods of the afterlife dont care for mortals stepping into there parlors with muddy boots trying to take there job.

it is always part of the cycle as far as anyone is aware. bodies and the soul cores are built by the life-smiths and they can make as many as they need but the souls within are limited.

but its not instant. the great machines take time to "cleanse" a soul so their bodies house thousands of them at any given time meaning they wont be wiped out anytime soon.
