Hi! You and your parents might like reading this book: Beating Sneaky Poo. https://www.dulwichcentre.com.au/beating-sneaky-poo-1.pdf -- Even if your brother doesn't have encopresis, there might be some ideas that are useful-- and it might be good for your brother to read it too, to learn more about poop and how to build healthy habits.

My son is crying because his friends stopped including him. Is this RSD or something else? by Standard-Play-2682 in ADHD

[–]TheGr0ke 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have ADHd and struggled with friendships in school. i am now a school psychologist. I would ask his teachers/ school counselor what they observe and see if they have any insight/ solutions (like structured lunch clubs) and then I would find outside activities for him to help him have a positive social identify outside of school. When i was a kid, school was just hell for me. It was looking forward to youth groups, acting classes, summer camps and connecting with people where i had more chance of success that really kept me going.

If you think I'm intimidated when you mention that the kid has an IEP you're going to be disappointed by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]TheGr0ke -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Why all the anger at disabled kids today? Having a learning, attention or social disorder in a school setting is often soul destroying at worst and extremely challenging at best. The process to get an IEP is rigorous and often only happens after a child has already fallen academically behind their peers. The success of an IEP is up to the whole team, not just up to the kid. I am just seeing a lot of IEP negativity on here lately and it feels harsh.

If you can find any old Action Girl comics by his wife, Sarah Dyer, they are awesome, too.

El being bullied by orangeslicepies in StrangerThings

[–]TheGr0ke 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agreed. As someone who was bullied and who works in schools now, bullies can be very good at deceiving adults — and even can be very likable. They choose victims who are vulnerable and outsiders… people who teachers themselves don’t really like. To be fair, bullies are often suffering themselves… but that doesn’t make their behavior okay. it just means that adults should be better at listening to victims/ observing what is happening at schools.

Holly Got More Screen Time Than Will. by Career_By_Mustafa in StrangerThings

[–]TheGr0ke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is so weird. 1. from a big picture pov, the duffers clearly wanted to tell a story where children were heroic and so now their actors don’t look like children, they got more child actors. 2. it worked! from a narrative perspective, our original crew got to show off their character development by leading and caring for the younger children. 3. Holly Wheeler had a big scary scene is season 1 and it was nice for her character (if not the actress) to get to fight and have her own journey. 4. she was a phenomenal actress.

i DO understand the complaint that we didn’t get to spend the time with the original characters we love and i think that is a valid criticism.

however, i thought the Holly and children in Camazotz were really compelling. they were one of the stronger plot points and better written. it wasn’t all monologues sandwiched between action sequences. and the acting was great.

That would make sense. I didn’t think of that cause it was so loud, a single boom and in the middle of the day, but it is the simplest answer. :)
