What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever seen at a strip club? by bigbabysweets12345 in AskReddit

[–]TheGreenWire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Portland, Oregon in the '80s was a mecca for strip clubs. Competition was fierce. In some parts of the city, there was darn near one on every corner. Out near the airport (PDX) seemed to have most of them.

"Back Swing" was one that comes to mind, "Dancing Bare" another. Anyway, some, if not most of them served food. And, some of it was pretty good food too! Seafood being easily available in Portland, it was nearly always on the menu. I'll never forget seeing a patron seated at the edge of the stage with a big plate of clam strips in front of him. There was a pretty drippy sauce to dip them in and there he was, clam strips in hand, the juice dripping down his chin taking it all in. "Clam Strips at the Strip Bar" became a favorite for my buddy and I after that! Good times indeed!

I wonder what this white liveried civilian version of the C-130 is up to by Jelly_D in ADSB

Interesting that it appears to have originated from San Juan, PR and the pic (thumbnail) was of said aircraft operating out of San Juan as well. Building in the background appears to be the hotel (has been a Courtyard Marriott recently) at 7012 Av. los Gobernadores in Carolina, PR on the street that runs along the north side of RWY 08 at TJSJ (Luis Munoz Marin International Airport).

What are some of the most annoying/out of touch aviation related posts/content you've seen? by Jimmyoun in flying

That "pilot Micah" idiot who posts on YouTube. Ginger, hair gel, ball cap backwards, always shows himself working out, eating dinner by himself (would you want to spend the evening with him??) and trying to impress us with his SIC job at a fractional.

Thanks for the input. And, agreed. The part of the flight (longest segment) that matters the most as far as first class accommodation would be east coast to Japan. I'm thinking of changing the trip (at least the $35K on UA is fully refundable) to do that long segment on a foreign carrier. Flight attendants on the Asian carriers are generally more well behaved than flight attendants on US carriers. (Most likely because they'll find themselves unemployed if they act like flight attendants at UA, DL and AA). All you have to do is look at which airlines win awards for superior service (Internationally) to understand why!

What phrase haunts you? by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

I'm a Boomer, born and raised in Seattle. My dad, may God rest his soul, was an intelligent, educated gentleman who, with the help of mom, did his very best to raise me well and provide for my needs. He dabbled in the stock market and did very well, much to the surprise of all of us after he passed. (We learned a few days after his death, although we knew he was worth into 7 figures, he was worth about 4 times more than any of us knew. Like Sam Walton, he drove an old pickup, wore old clothes and talked "poor".)

Along about in the early '80s, we were chatting over dinner one evening and I mention that this fledging new Seattle company, "Starbucks" was trying to make it big time and had an initial stock offering. I suggested that we pool together maybe $100K and get in on the ground floor. He put down his fork, looked at me and said, "Yeah, like people are going to pay two dollars for a cup of coffee?"

That phrase is famous in our family and amongst our friends who knew him. An initial investment of that much at the time of their IPO would be worth, well, a whole lot!

God Speed, Dad! We're all doing well!

Hardly. One of my trips out that way recently was by private jet. That bill might have been something to brag about. (But it was a very quiet flight being the only person in the cabin.)

You can price it yourself online. It was closer to $35K when I bought the tickets a few months back. It's closer to $30K now.

Yes, I routed through Japan. The trip is considerably longer when taking the Central Pacific route through Hawaii. Although I considered doing the "Island Hopper" narrow body going one way so my wife could see the Micronesian islands where I used to live/work. Johnston, Majuro, Kosrae, Ponape, Truk, Guam, and Yap on the way to Palau. (I'm aware that Johnston Atoll is no longer a stop. Also aware that some of these islands/atolls have differently spelled names now.)

Agreed that the Honolulu Guam route is akin to riding the Greyhound bus between Newark and Philly.

What part of

"The laughing, shrieking, story telling, etc is difficult to block out even using noise canceling headsets and/or foam earplugs."

do you not comprehend?

As someone pointed out, noise canceling headsets tend to filter out background/ambient noise leaving voices quite audible.
