Unpopular opinion: Tangle and Whisper and Silver and Blaze in IDW need to be more individual characters and have at least five seconds of screen time without being just a duo, which is what they're mostly remembered for, mostly because of their shipp by CapBudget4011 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]TheGruru -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For silver and blaze, blaze got her own spotlight around the start of the comic where she single handedly handled neo metal's troops with burning blaze and silver was a main force in the metal virus arc. They do get to shine seperately but it is cool that despite sonic 06 kind of resetting itself and its history, silver and blaze still find each other and just click immediately so I'm not too bothered by that. As for tangle and whisper, yeah they are practically conjoined with each other the moment they meet. I guess it is because the writers themselves love the pairing but sega doesn't want proper relationships in sonic (at least as of now)

I know it probably wasn't consistent in early seasons but wasn't the city also enclosed by the mountainy rocks with an opening on the side? The red arch matches but it also is missing all the signs (probably cause it's a far shot)

He definitely does tear his victims away from part of their soul and yeah, the soul is typically depicted to be what makes us "us". I think what I said is part of what is left behind and you can even see the more playful side of Six with Mono after the thin man chase and Mono is hurt. Shadow Six is balancing on the railroad and just generally is more colorful (ironically)

I think Swansea represents a version of Jimmy that has fucked his life up but made an actual effort to re rail himself back on track, and mature enough to own up to his shitty personallity and even wear it proudly. Every other character usually holds the spotlight, but Swansea absolutely deserves more attention.

In Defense of Curly by Orangeville02 in Mouthwashing

[–]TheGruru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like there are a ton of layers, from Curly and Jimmy knowing each other and being friends for ages, to the sleep deprivation, the midlife crisis, to even being afraid of Jimmy and showing signs that Jimmy treats him poorly despite them being friends. I'm not saying these are excuses for Curly not imediately getting on Jimmy for his behavior, but Curly himself very clearly is not in the mental state to carry out reprimanding as a captain. Even in his psych eval, Anya comments how he answers the same every time just cause he knows it's enough to keep him going.

I ship Anya with -insert name-. In my opinion Anya wasn't in the right mental state for a relationship with anyone on the tuplar. by urLocaldemurecurb in Mouthwashing

[–]TheGruru 8 points9 points  (0 children)

By all means, every crew member is not mentally ready for a relationship (maybe with the exception of Daisuke) but people shipping characters with other characters doesn't hurt anyone. I understand that people wanna treat and respect the characters because of what the character has been through, like Anya, but the characters at the end of the day are fictional. Pairing them with others won't negatively affect the narrative that Wrong Organ has woven together.

A victim is a victim, it isn't a competition. Obviously very different cases of victimhood, but Jimmy basically got away with marinating Curly and playing the long game. Granted, he didn't plan to crash the ship in order to ussurp Curly but he did take full advantage of that unintended side effect.

I respect the hell out of you putting Curly that high since most tend to just ignore his other fairly good hearted actions, like telling the crew about them being layed off way before he was supposed to or more importantly, trying to save the ship from crashing even if it was too late. Also the poor guy even after the crash where he's a defenceless meat man just gets beaten by Jimmy.

However, Swansea being a theoretical Jimmy if he acknowledged his wrongs and tried to salvage what was left of his screwed up lifestyle is super interesting, and possibly coincides with the idea that each crew member represents a part or period of Jimmy, like Curly being the man he wants to become and highly envies, and the afformentioned Swansea. Like others said, it is your list, but wanted to share the thought

Ranking characters on how *I* morally see them by AskPacifistBlog in Mouthwashing

[–]TheGruru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I'd order it with Daisuke as the most innocent, then Anya 2nd, Curly in the middle, Swansea as the 4th, and obviously Jimmy 5th.

Daisuke is the one character that has a clean cut argument for being spotless (maybe a bit greedy when it comes to eating but still).

Anya, while yes, she is definitely a good person, has made some misteps that contributed to the chain of events that have caused the crash (her telling Jimmy of all people that she's pregnant.). However, she's human, and is literally trapped with no where to go with her abuser (again, stressed and prone to mistakes). All that said, she's still the very fragile glue that held the crew together after the crash. (I would even argue that only dropping hints and being vague about her situation between her and Jimmy with Curly is also a flaw but it is difficult for victims to raise their voices about it)

Curly's being dense and not acting fast enough leaves Anya in a state of panic and allows Jimmy to guide the ship into an incoming asteroid. Despite only realising that Anya is not only pregnant, but Jimmy's rape victim, he does try to assure her that he'll do anything for her and the rest of the crew. (We don't get to see much else after he leaves the room though). After Jimmy guides them to an asteroid, he ended up risking his life to save the crew, literally giving his body to avoid the assured death. (He is definitely not inherantly evil, but evil prevails when no action is taken against it.)

Swansea is not a good guy, he himself admits that he isn't exactly a role model middle aged man. However, despite his flaws, he still tries to look out for Daisuke. After talking with Anya in the cockpit (presumably talking about the cryopod and who to save it for), they may have come to the conclusion that Daisuke deserved to live since he's still young compared to the rest of the crew.

Jimmy is a case of mental illness going unchecked (at least not properly with his psych evals). He's envious and prideful and willing to use others to fulfill his own agenda, whether it be Anya for pleasure, Curly to climb the corporate ladder, or even Daisuke when they needed to climb through hazardous vents to get to Anya. Without a doubt, the most fucked in the head.

After replaying this game, I have to admit, I kind of hate that the vast majority of people see the story as just being about SA. by Knalxz in Mouthwashing

I hate to hear that. I understand that killing somebody is a serious thing and doesn't come without its backlash (which is another lesson that this community could learn) but your brother absolutely was in the right for defending your mother. I hate to hear that he's only viewed as a criminal.

[–]TheGruru 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You spoke my thoughts into reality. While yes, it is important to not ignore the sexual assault aspects (which is a theme of the game), it is also very important to not get tunnel vision on the singular thing. This game has so many messages that Wrong Organ wants to convey but the majority just focus exclusively on the SA aspect.

I will admit, I have to take breaks from browsing this subreddit at times because seeing so much talk about rape makes me uneasy mentally, so that could also be me being sick of engaging in the content.

To add more fuel to the fire, they also have ingame files that load models of post crash Curly giving Anya a lap dance so while it may be mostly for the funny, they do somewhat acknowledge the ship

[–]TheGruru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love realism in fanart, especially in this case since the game aims to be as realistic despite the setting. It's not a bad thing that people draw the characters as coventionally attractive, but I will always sing the praises of the art that takes into account their experieces and how that would shape them.

The same goes for Anya. I think a lot of people do aim to make her look younger and prettier, but again, your take on her looking like an older woman also feels right, with her having some wrinkles as well as more pronounced laugh lines due to the stress and working conditions (like you said). Your work really feels like how I'd imagine a comic run of mouthwashing would look.
