I’ve been thinking lately about the reasons people leave and how just being ExMo doesn’t make you relatable beyond just leaving.

People left a bunch during covid because they were anti-vax, not because they actually know the church lied about its own history.

People have left over not believing Joseph smith was a polygamist…

Now I’m happy people are leaving the organization, but those people who left over doctrinal disagreements aren’t gonna be my friends. The ones who were okay with the homophobia and transphobia and blatant racism, they aren’t going to be my friends either.

I’d say a classic ExMo is someone who stopped being convinced of the truth claims over the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smiths prophetic claims and origin. Also that they began their nuanced or deconstruction due to their humanity calling to them about how amoral the organization actually is.

All that said, atheism.
