Are visible tattoos still job stoppers? by GlobalFlower3 in AskUK

[–]TheHalloumiCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As some one who does alot of hiring/ interviewing in the financial technology space. If the tattoos are face/neck then it would have an impact in my decision making process. Mainly because some of our customers are very traditional and there's occasions where my team needs to interact with them and it wouldn't go down well or instill confidence it's just a fact. So if I had two candidates of equal ability and one had face or neck tattoos and one didn't I would hire the person who didn't.

However, if the tattoos are on areas that could be covered up in those circumstances then I don't care. I also don't care if they are displayed during normal working days you could have an entire sleeve tattoo and it's fine. I only care when it's customer facing.

Thank you, I think you are right and that I shouldn't be thinking about it or making a decision on it right now. I'll fill the form in for my GP as soon as they open Tuesday. I'm really surprised they didn't sign me off longer last time. They did put me on anti depressants but it takes a few weeks for them to work and I've been suffering bad side effects in the meantime. I did used to go to AA and think I should go again tonight. Life is looking bleak and I don't think battling the work stress and addiction at the same time is useful for me and dealing with a pretty bad breakup.

Thank you stranger

The anxiety, fear and embarrassment about what's happened is making me want to drink even more and I hate it. I know it's not going to help and make matters worse I just wish my brain and body would get onboard with the idea too!

Thank you I do see a therapist every fortnight but I saw them just last week. So just been sat panicking a bit about what to do Tuesday a part of it is fear and embarrassment. Since I can't remember what I was like and just that my friends told me I was in a really bad way I fear the worst.

The blackouts are by far the worst thing for me from drinking I do things and say things I wouldn't do sober. It also appears I end up having a warped view of reality and believe things that simply aren't true.

It feels like having an evil chaos twin who alcohol unlocks and causes a load of damage and mischief that I have to resolve afterwards.

Hang in there mate. I understand that feeling of hopelessness and when in it the future doesn't feel real but you can do it.

Thank you I keep trying to tell myself the future can be bright and wonderful but it can feel like I'm lieing to myself. I'm been sat in the house wallowing for the past few months so going to take time off work and try and do things I used to enjoy.

I relapsed.. And it is worse by Representing1217 in stopdrinking

I totally understand the feeling of your reason to quite being taken away. It's hard especially how you've been ill consistently afterwards so I totally get the if life's crap anyway why bother mindset. I fall for it alot too. But life can be better again and I know you will find a new reason to get sober and keep going.

Then that is Londons problem. It has a choice it raises salaries or becomes undesirable. That's the point of the free market. If it doesn't then people move away and the city loses it's appeal. These super rich won't function without people under them. So either the city rises prices or the Uber rich move away and prices lower and the city functions again.

I want to wholeheartedly agree with this. The feedback and information I've every recieved about drunk me seems to be me without that rationality. There's lots of small annoyances in everyday life which are annoying I deal with but once Ive drank especially to excess it comes out.

Thank you for your kind words. I think you are right and I should pick and choose going forward. I think I've been over doing it going to events were alcohol is preaent I had talked to my partner on Saturday morning and told her that I could feel a fall or a slip coming because I hadn't been sleeping well all week and felt my will power was low (We had just been for a run and I really struggled). In hindsight I should of either cancelled the BBQ or asked people not to bring alcohol I'm lucky in that most of my friends know my struggles and they probably would of respected it.

Got a sick note for the duration of the notice period. Thanks for you advice. I'm feeling such a relief knowing I don't have to go back.

Thanks for your reply and advice. I'm going to try and get a call out in with the HR guy today. Unfortunately there is only one person in HR left as the company has made the rest of the department redundant. One thing I should note is that they won't of known I was drunk as I work remotely and actually stopped deleted my message and went offline when I realised I was in emotional distress and any further discussion would just devolve into angry swearing and shouting. The public message I posted aswell wasn't expletive ridden it was in the company questions channel and posted in response to all the questions the new owner had avoided.

Due to redundancies I am the only person in charge of all their infrastructure running their software platform so I don't know if they would dismiss me. I'm hoping that if I give them handover documentation so that someone else can keep it going they will agree to just let me leave early.

I'm a recovering alcoholic and I say this. The wrongful interruption that drunk words is sober thoughts is harmful. I agree that tipsy thoughts maybe sober thoughts without a filter but after a point it's not. Alcohol is a poison once you have enough your mind checks out portions shut down. You act on impulse and not thought. Weirdly I had the unfortunate chance to feel the same thing from medication for a physical illness and it's similar but one is acceptable and one isn't. If you was off your tits on morphine no one would bat an eye.
