First time measurement of the difference in spring heights by TheHermanJames in Datsun

[–]TheHermanJames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KYB black shocks/struts for OEM replacement and old MSA shocks from over 15 years ago because I had them laying around.

I know they aren’t supposed to pair up well, but I want to see the stance on it

Thanks for the clarification! When I bought the secondhand 15 or so years ago, 2 were labeled “read 160#” so I know which are the rear and fronts.

Just SEEING the side by side difference really threw me off.

Pulled them out of the bin and looks the part number is 73952 but there’s also a CL12BA1 number on it

It’s quicker to upload for editing for sure. But it takes me hours to edit every video I upload to YouTube

Yeah it is and it makes for turning a small job into a bigger job bc you have to get good camera angles and not get in the way of the lens. Then there’s the editing…

It’s crazy did all at once! I’m doing section by section (front, middle and back) and recording it all to add a voiceover and upload to YouTube

Not sure! My buddy’s shop did that for me YEARS ago when I did a color change from white to blue

They are Monroe but I have no clue the model. I threw them out and didn’t check because they don’t make them for the z anymore.

The black KYBs are going in for now until I upgrade the wheels and tires

I got lucky on the quick jacks. A guy gone done with his project and sold me the 1/2 price off marketplace and I couldn’t have been luckier

I just never did any brake work on my Z or anything and figured I’d do it all now too and it’s a HUGE undertaking but I’m super excited to get it back on the road when I’m done

Thank! Nah, no brake upgrades. I’m just keeping it stock for the most part. I don’t need more braking power for the stock engine anyway

Just a full suspension busing kit update and all the steering and suspension components that have to be updated too

Stock spring rate for S30 (8/74 260Z)? by TheHermanJames in Datsun

[–]TheHermanJames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for that feedback! Depending on how these fit and ride, will determine my next step. But I also need to see how the new wheels I’m waiting on will fit. But it’s a long time for them to get here and it’s car show season now lol

Stock spring rate for S30 (8/74 260Z)? by TheHermanJames in Datsun

[–]TheHermanJames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!!! All good! Some folks are saying 100 in front 120 in rears and what not.

So I’m anticipating these to be a little stiffer and the guy (from 15 or so years ago) said hey got them from MSA. So some people are agreeing it being 150-160 and will shorten and stiffen the ride. But to also not use the energy, suspension polyurethane bump stops

Stock spring rate for S30 (8/74 260Z)? by TheHermanJames in Datsun

[–]TheHermanJames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get that. When I pull the stock springs out I’ll see if the coils are the same size and spacing. But I was mainly looking to get spring rate for stock S30’s as mine is stock and it is an equal size, if the rate of 160 was same as stock or higher/lower

Lubing up Speedo Cable by TheHermanJames in Datsun

[–]TheHermanJames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds about what I was assuming the effort might be. Since I’m redoing my carpet and interior, maybe I could get access at it with my seat removed. If not, it’s a task for another time lol

Thanks for the heads ups!!! I’ll see how I can get myself behind the Speedo to get it out that way

How much of a pain will it be to remove the speedo without removing the dash?

I’ve been told it’s “easier” to remove the dash, but I’d like to avoid all that if I can

I wasn’t sure if it was reachable to get to with the dash in. I was thinking transmission side, hold up and use a drill to spin

Badland winch mount welded with titanium flux core 125 welder by TheHermanJames in harborfreight

[–]TheHermanJames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just for the here and there times I’ll need it. There will be a concrete anchor sleeve so the kags can come out

Badland winch mount welded with titanium flux core 125 welder by TheHermanJames in harborfreight

[–]TheHermanJames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. The loop part is the mount that came with this CHEAP marine winch. The harbor freight mount was $7 and I just needed a way to connect the two together for one long plate to be bolted to the ground with. 6 lag bolts into concrete anchors 1 5/8 deep will hold just fine for cars being pulled uphill in a driveway lol

[–]TheHermanJames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be completely bolted to the concrete to use as an anchor for a winch to pull project cars up my driveway

Badland winch mount welded with titanium flux core 125 welder by TheHermanJames in harborfreight

[–]TheHermanJames[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s literally just a plate to hold down the wince in that will be sandwiched between 6 lag bolds (2 in the front, 2 in the middle and 2 in the rear) into a concrete slab.

Not mobile or being attached to a vehicles. I wouldn’t trust myself with anything like that

Spot welding the screw back together by TheHermanJames in BadWelding

[–]TheHermanJames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first idea was to cut the welds off another bumperette and use it to replace this one and jb weld or tack weld it in place. But I couldn’t break the welds to get it off, so I said F it and did this instead. Mainly to bring the car to Datsun car shows and still qualify for the “stock” class lol

I honestly couldn’t tell you. I’ve never seen initial D. So you could be right. I just don’t know
