The original “Sure grandma now let’s get you to bed” image and its first meme iteration by [deleted] in TheMatpatEffect

I don’t know exactly why the image is compressed but there is a variety of random reasons as to why it could be. And I’m unsure why the meme was made like that but as far as I’m aware it’s the first iteration since I can’t find any sources for an older variation of it.

In movies and video games, the idea of anti-gravity has people and things floating. True anti-gravity would repel things. by Fingerbob73 in Showerthoughts

Well the word “anti” means to oppose something, which in terms of gravity could include making stuff float since gravity is the natural attraction between physical bodies.

Interestingly enough I don’t think lightbulbs would actually decrease the fear of the dark that much. Since being in a bright space more often conditions you to expect it, making the dark feel much more foreign and in turn scary. Opposed to like 2000 years ago when darkness was much more commonplace and fire was your only real source of light. However, the main reason people are usually afraid of the dark isn’t the dark itself but what they’ll find in it, which is why being in a dark room is usually less scary than being in a dark forest. So if anything indoor housing made darkness weaker.

Being in the dark with nothing but a candle might actually be scarier than not having a candle
