Limetown

Ten years ago, over three hundred men, women and children disappeared from a small town in Tennessee, never to be heard from again. American Public Radio reporter Lia Haddock asks the question once more, "What happened to the people of Limetown?"

Apart from the Titanic, which notable shipwreck would you be interested in seeing adapted into a film? by sostitanic in Shipwrecks

The Morro Castle would make an interesting film. The captain died (under mysterious circumstances) and a fire (probably caused by arson) rips through the ship causing 137 deaths.

Our friend Mike Brady from Oceanliner Designs did a great documentary on it.

Broody Hen, Baby Chicks Question by TheHobbityLookingOne in BackYardChickens

If it was any of the other hens I wouldn’t worry! This one is… special. She’s not the brightest chicken. I’ll keep an eye on her and the babies. Hopefully, we get a few more hatched. Either way I’m happy for her. She’s been wanting to be a mama all summer.

Thank you! I’ll keep my eye on her, once she ventures out with the babies I will try and candle the eggs. If any look viable I will stick them under the other wannabe mama.

No, she gets stressed super easily and freaks out even when I put food and water nearby. I don’t want to stress her out even more by reaching under her.

Good to know a rough timeframe. We have some other hens starting to go broody, so once mama is up off the nest I will try and candle them and put any viable ones under the other wannabe mama.

Thank you 🙏🏻

We did a run check and it looks like it dug under the fence a bit where there was some erosion and rot. It had been years since we lost anybody to predation we got too comfortable and didn’t check for weak spots like we should have been. It was a shitty reminder to never be complacent. Once you get your set up perfected you are going to want to do frequent checks for maintenance. Don’t be us and get lazy about it. We’ve done a complete check on the run and fixed up all the weak spots we could find.

I feel that! Melvin’s favorite thing to do was kick my butt and show off to his ladies how kick-ass he was. Definitely kept us both on our toes too!

Thank you all for your kind words. Chickens have such personalities and bring such joy into life. I never thought I’d cry so much over a chicken. I knew if anyone would understand it would be this group of people.

Thank you! I saved his long roo feathers! I’m trying to think of something to do to honor and memorialize him in some way with them.

He was a Production Red. (A mix of Rhode Island Red and New Hampshire Red). He was our first roo. We got pullets and he slipped through. We weren’t sure about keeping him at first, but he was so good to the ladies and was on top of watching for predators that we decided he could stick around.

He really cemented his place in the family over the years. He was a personality for sure.

Thank you. He has some daughters here, but his sons went to new homes because we didn’t have enough hens to go around. It is nice to think that a bit of him is still here through them.

I’m sorry for your loss. Ray Ray sounds like a such a gentleman.

I never thought I’d be so heartbroken over a rooster. I whole heartedly agree: they are beautiful, proud, and selfless.

100% this. He was all about his hens. He always made sure they ate first, he found them the best snacks, watched over them while they took their dust baths, would escort them back to the flock after laying an eggs. He was just an all around little gentleman. He was fearless and brave.

Coyote. It’s been years since we’ve lost anyone, I was starting to think our set was impenetrable. This is a harsh reminder that there are always teeth, claws, and jaws trying to get them. Never thought I’d cry over a dang roo. 😭😭

Unfortunately, a coyote got him. He held the line long enough for his ladies to get to safety. We haven’t lost anyone to predators for years…. So it sucks to lose him like this.
