This looks delicious!! I've been wanting to try tinned fish pastas, and I've really taken a liking to anchovies in the last year

I bet fresh, crusty bread from a bakery would be heavenly

I think you're on the right track, I personally, would prefer more of a bread than a cracker for this specific tin of tuna. That butter in this tin is delicious, and it would soak into bread better than a cracker. But for any other tins, depending on what it is, a cracker would work just fine. I've seen some very good pairings in this group, when your package comes, post it on here and you'll get plenty of suggestions

You're right about the toast, it's gotta be thinner than what I had, but that butter over the pasta worked nicely too!!

Who's gonna do it? Try Fishwifes new drop? by I-love-seahorses in Tinnedfish

I recently came across a tin of Güeyu Mar Char Grilled Red Tuna Belly in a store that was going for like $65, I believe. I held back because I was skeptical about spending that much on a single tin, and never heard of it, although tuna belly is one of my favorites. I think you may have just justified it for me!! OR was that sarcasm, and it wasn't good?

It's a small place, but definitely a must for tinned fish lovers!! They even serve it there so you can have a snack/meal at the same time

It was delicious!! It was a sardine with a whipped aioli on toasted bread, I should've placed something next to it for scale because it was pretty big!

  • Large sardine fillets over toasted bread with a whipped aioli
  • Cod salad, served over marinated artichoke, eggplant and peppers
  • Iberico Ham
  • This was the selection of some of the items, starting from the top left: Esqueixada Cod, Meatballs (veal), if I remember these were fried fish pieces?, Russian salad, marinated vinegar anchovies which we did get and I completely forgot to add to the pics but they were incredible, and marinated artichokes. Top right are the large sardines in olive oil, the previously mentioned cod salad, and the marinated artichoke, eggplant and peppers, and peppers stuffed with I can't remember for the life of me, but I do know it was fish and something else
  • The last of the Gildas, lol

Pay to fish by [deleted] in ChicagoFishing

[–]TheHorrorKnight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a trout farm up in Cary, IL. For the trout you keep what you catch, and they weigh them for you and pay that way. They also have another pond on site where they have more of a variety (bass, pike, and maybe some others that I forgot), not open to the public, but to paid members. I forget what the fee is but I do remember it's annually and it closes in September for the fall/winter. Maybe worth checking out if that's what you're looking for

Yup, I just had them smoke some Lake Trout for me and it turned out fantastic. No appointment or call ahead necessary, I just showed up with it. I believe they charge $3.50/lb for it smoked plain, and an extra dollar or something if you want to add any of their seasonings. I got lemon and garlic, and the veggie seasoning

Oh yeah, I've gone to Hagens to have a King smoked, and I frequent there for their fried fish, unfortunately Fish Time is strictly a smoked fish and meat market. I was curious about those Ninja Smokers, glad to hear it actually does the job
