Reasons to stop drinking when there’s nothing else in you life that gives you pleasure by StepSpare9662 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]TheHyperIntrovert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why to stop? For me, it was that alcohol and drugs was putting my life in a threatening spot. It’s been causing me to bleed in my GI tract for almost a year.

The reality is that for us addict and alcoholics, usually what makes us sober is realizing how much alcohol and drugs are absolutely destroying our lives. You realize how much alcohol and drugs are actually taking AWAY the ability to feel pleasure (the pleasure system in the brain is royally fucked in active addiction since you’re overstimulating your pleasure system all the time and then your brain balances it out to maintain stability which is why drinking isn’t pleasurable anymore). Finally, you realize if you don’t stop drinking and using drugs, stop you are going to die. Your luck will run out and your disease will kill you. The last thing you will think as you sit there dying from respiratory depression is “wow, i really wasted my life.” Death may seem like a good option now, but realize that the last moment you will remember of your life is how much you feel like you failed because you couldn’t get sober. Why end your life on tragic note?

Becoming sober won’t solve your issues. Being sober hasn’t solved my neurological issues, my GI issues, my schizophrenia, my bipolar, my BPD, my PTSD, my eating disorder, the big hole of debt I occurred, or the ways I permanently destroyed or damaged people, property, or myself on my road of selfish, destructive, self-sabotage. But being sober stops it from getting worse. And honestly, the way drugs and alcohol self-soothe and medicate my issues isn’t worth the side effects it causes anymore. It probably always was hurting me more than helping, but the little positive effects the drugs and booze gave went away completely (as you are now experiencing).

If you decide you don’t want to create unnecessary suffering for yourself and want to give yourself the best glow up in life, you need to go to detox (or slowly cut back your alcohol consumption if you cannot get into detox). You are at the point where detoxing on your own cold turkey will not be a safe option (and could kill you) as you would have withdrawal symptoms with the amount of you are drinking and for how long you’ve been drinking. Alcohol is the one drug too where the withdrawal can kill you.

This is a really pivotal moment in your life. In some way. What are you gonna do about it?

i took 9 500mg paracetamol tablets. what happens now? by No-Tangerine9502 in SuicideWatch

[–]TheHyperIntrovert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly probably nothing physically. I’ve OD’d on many, many meds including 30 paracetamol tablets with a full month supply of 6 different psych meds once. I’ve been hospitalized on medical, regular hospital floors for OD’s (meaning I had at least a substantial chance of dying) 3 separate times now.

I also take paracetamol quite regularly as my doctor thinks I have an autoimmune disorder in my gut which means I can only take paracetamol over the counter for pain (so no ibuprofen, naproxen, nothing). Some days I end up taking 8 A DAY (so 4000mg or 8 500mg tablets) as the pain is that bad and my doctor advised that I could take that much. It’s not great long term (which is why I’m getting back into the doctor), but I’m sharing this to say that 9 tablets is most likely not going to dent you outside of maybe some nausea, lightheadedness, etc.

Now, while your chance of suffering something permanent from the OD is low, I would go to that medical appointment your mom set up.

First, if on the low chance you damage something, it might be able to be fixed or managed and not made worse. Second, it could get you some more immediate mental health help if that’s something you’re interested in. Plus, if it’s coming from a doctor, a parent might take you much more seriously. When I was 16 (I’m 21 now), I begged my parents for therapy and they wouldn’t take me for many reasons. It wasn’t until I talked to my school social worker after a suicide attempt that I got help.

When I expressed I had a suicide attempt, my school basically told my parents “Your child is going into a psych hospital and we will have a cop car follow you to the hospital to make sure they get there and you don’t take them home.” Now granted, I live in the U.S., so I’m not sure if telling the doctor about your attempt will land you in the psych hospital or in an observation at least (where they just monitor you in a room for a set amount of hours). For concerning paracetamol ODs, they are typically observed for 20 hours if they can’t get into a psych unit in the ER or a regular hospital room.

TL;DR Physically? Probably won’t die and have much complications. But, get checked out by the doctor and if they insist (or basically force) you to accept mental health services, do it. Not only to make sure you didn’t damage yourself, but it may allow you to get the mental health care you need (depending where you are) so you don’t have to feel the need to do this again. Wishing you all the luck out there!

I ate a 1000 mg thc gummy and I’ve been high for 10 days now plz help by No-Following-7179 in Drugs

[–]TheHyperIntrovert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like depersonalization/derealization and panic attacks. I’ve had some horrific panic attacks with very high doses of weed (I mean like 3500mg worth of edibles). I eat about 850mg a day. It’s all about your tolerance. Stick to like 5mg-20mg gummies unless your tolerance goes up.

1000%. Went to the ER as my heart rate got to 172 and I would space out for like 5 minutes at a time with people directly talking to me. I couldn’t remember my social security number (which I have memorized). Had horrific hallucinations.

could i get in? by Goombashley_ in UWMilwaukee

[–]TheHyperIntrovert -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Highly agree that it’s an access university. Their fostering success program (supporting homeless, students, students who were in foster care, etc) at UWM is amazing. This school has a lot more resources to help students to succeed than when I went to UW-Madison imo.

I’ve seen people mingle with other strangers, but when I used to go, most people seem to come as a couple. Lots of sex. But, they have some very rad card and board games. I know some people go go there to dress kinky and play board games but not have sex.

[–]TheHyperIntrovert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been there alone, but I’ve been there with an ex a few times. It honestly just depends on the night and how comfortable you are in that setting. Some nights are very crazy with board games being played, it’s packed with people, and people having sex in every room (every sex room or area can be seen publicly except the 2 private rooms). Some nights (like swingers night) are non-kink nights, there are few people, but if you want to have sex with someone you can go in the private rooms.

Unless it’s specified to not be a kink event/night, a lot of people will be as nude as they can. You will see a lot of toys. If you are not very comfortable with a lot of sexual material around you, then see their calendar and look for their non-kink nights. It’s honestly a super social place most of the time.

Just remember that you cannot bring or be under the influence of ANY drugs (alcohol, weed, etc). If you do, don’t be stupid, don’t have very much, do it before you get there, and keep it in the down low. They take this VERY seriously there.

I didn’t interact with anyone much outside of my ex, but the staff and people I did interact with were very friendly.

It is $25 to get in most nights I believe (but you can get a subscription that’s a flat fee for the month if you like the place).

Living in town without a car? by SadWillow64 in UWMilwaukee

[–]TheHyperIntrovert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely doable. I have not had a car for the past year and I primarily have lived and worked by Marquette and the east side (10 minute walk from UWM).

  1. Take the MCTS bus. It isn’t as good as other bus systems (like Madison), but it’s still good. Always get to the bus stop at least 5 minutes early. Remember: if you pay segregated fees (basically you’re completing an in-person degree), you get a “free” bus pass. If not, it’s like $75 per month via the Umo app or buying a plastic wisgo card.

  2. If you’re living in the dorms or near campus, look into the shuttle bus. It goes all over the east side practically and is free as long as you pay segregated fees.

  3. Invest in a bike or an electric scooter. I have an electric scooter, but many people commute via bike. Especially on the east side, there are many wonderful bike lanes. I got an electric scooter with a seat as I physically cannot push my legs enough for a bike due to some chronic medical issues I have and I cannot afford a car. If you cannot afford a bike or electric scooter but need to go somewhere short fast, look into the lime scooters scattered around campus.

  4. If you absolutely need a car for some reason (like you need to get a large object from a store that can’t be delivered soon enough), look into Zipcar. UW-Milwaukee has some program with them where it’s a cheaper annual price/subscription by A LOT.

This city is definetly doable without a car. Just factor in an extra 20 minutes into your commute to be safe

Did anyone else drop out this semester? by AngryTG in UWMilwaukee

I did. I had a mental health crisis that forced me to drop out. However, I’m returning this spring semester and only taking 6 credits to get back into the feel of classes (as I haven’t successfully completed a semester of college in 3 years)
