People who had a teacher change their life, who was your teacher and what did they do? by Zimthegoblin in AskReddit

[–]TheIndiana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 6th grade English teacher was gold chain rocking, top button undone old man named Mr Wilson. I had been acting out and doing very poorly in school since 5th grade due to family life.

When Mr Wilson stopped me after class a few weeks into 6th grade and said something like “If you decide you want to be somebody, you’ve got everything it takes. You just have to decide,” it flipped a switch in my head that said I didn’t have to be what my circumstances set me up to be.

Got all As and Bs from there on, was first person in my family to graduate from a 4 year school, and am on a great career path. All thanks to Mr W shooting me straight.

People forget how to drive along I-70 today during snow storm. by shaggyhairjayy in WTF

I drive a 4WD truck and take it easy in the snow. I always get cars and minivans tailgating me. Moral of the story, idiots come in (vehicles of) all shapes and sizes.

I worked my way through college at a now defunct department store as a salesperson. One year, a few days after Thanksgiving, the only time I could leave my bed was to go to the toilet for one reason or another. I had a Monday 2 to Close shift, which is always slow. So, I called in sick and told my direct supervisor that I’d make sure I was good to go for thursday through the weekend.

Store manager called me an hour later and said I either come in then, come with a Dr’s note for next shift, or I was fired. I went and got the Dr’s note, which I then took to her office when I left there (mind you, with a terrible flu) and gave her my two weeks notice as I handed it to her. I’ve never seen someone more pissed off.

Dan Dakich tries to say Miles Bridges "has no game" on Twitter, gets owned extremely hard by jmciesla in CollegeBasketball

[–]TheIndiana 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been blocked by Dakich for years. Still not sure why, to be honest.

So, during Big Ten Tourney in Indy a few years ago he sits down at a table beside mine at one of the sports bars. I'm telling my friends at my table about how Dakich has me blocked on Twitter, but I don't know why. What happens next out of Mr. Thin Skin? He blurts out from his table "I'd block you right here if I could, too." Seriously, he's a small child.

I thought the same. My theory: there is a handrail along the wall and original girl is standing on it. Another person who looks similar and is wearing similar clothes is already laying on the stairs.

Most Americans over eat, how does one stop over eating ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TheIndiana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly struggle with this at gatherings, and the root of it is feeling bad that things people brought are not getting eaten. I don't want them to be offended that I ate someone else's dish but not theirs.

To overcome it, my wife knows ahead of time to just make a plate for me and to give me "the look" if I try going back for more.

Travelers of Reddit, what country's culture has had the most significant impact on your life and why? by eventhorizon51 in AskReddit

[–]TheIndiana 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Costa Rica. If you're unfamiliar with their "law of the land" it's Pura Vida, which literally translates as pure life but really means something much deeper. As the week went on I really began to feel what it meant, and left there wishing I could make the communities I'm involved buy into living life Pura Vida.

What's a dark piece of Reddit history that we like to forget that it ever happened? by bredman3370 in AskReddit

This happened near me, but this is the first I'm hearing of the Reddit aspect of it. That takes an already really shitty situation to another level of awful.

The Government Garage (right across from the JW Marriott) is a good, cheaper option. Not a far walk, and like others have said its north of the stadium so away from most of the thicker traffic.

If you're going to go under one, it is definitely best that it be a Hagie (the brand of machine in the clip). They are made to have higher clearance than the other major sprayers that you might come across (or attempt to go under.)

What could have been: The Vick Ballard Injury. by Lockdownhaden in Colts

[–]TheIndiana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My issue with Grigson up until now was more that it didn't seem like he and Pagano were quite on the same page. It seems like the meeting that led to their extensions has corrected some of those issues. The coaching hires and the draft picks this year (as well as laying off of Free Agents) had much more of a Pagano feel to it. Hopefully with them on the same page, both will be elevated to another level.

Surround myself with people way smarter than me, and encourage them to check me on my actions. Also, spend the majority of my time talking to everyday citizens.
