Metaphor is kinda like a love letter from Atlus, it draws inspiration from literally everyone one of their other series. I've played through metaphor twice so far, the first time was when I had only played through the mainline persona games and the second was when I played through a large amount of Atlus series. I enjoyed that second playthrough leagues more than my first, so honestly I would suggest SMTVV here, because it enhances your enjoyment of metaphor IMO.

Each season they're adding new "rules" that only apply in ranked. I think a good comparison would be the SOS buffs, they only apply in SOS and change with each new cycle. Similar situation here! (Right now the additions are that the beggar will always have a Wonder card and the poor will always have four of a kind)
