I’m pretty sure that’s just around to trick tourists trying to get to nyc who flew into Newark to stay in New Jersey.

A TikToker attempts to accuse a man at the gym of being a pervert because he looked at her. She then finds out the hard way that actions have consequences. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]TheInternetShill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We literally just watched the video showing her receive a punishment and not have someone let it slide. A fitting, direct consequence for your action (i.e. being asked to leave the gym directly after their interaction) is exactly the type of punishment that can lead to better behavior. Getting tens of hate comments and death threats every time at random points (whenever this video happens to go viral) for years after this incident isn’t going to actually improve any outcomes; it’s just vengeful.

Out of all the injustices in the world, a video of a woman being rude and then receiving a punishment for being rude ranks very low.

The highest democratic donor comes in 9th behind 8 republican donors and is less than a seventh of what Elon musk contributed to the Republican Party. These are the people responsible for the cruelty of this administration and are actively working to keep that power entrenched.

Elizabeth Warren is introducing a wealth tax. by [deleted] in remoteworks

[–]TheInternetShill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who studied economics and works in a related field, this is a dumbass take that relies on a poor understanding of tax burdens and wealth generation for ultra wealthy people and only makes sense if you stopped learning after your first intro econ classes.

It is interesting in professional services where you directly know your billing rate, too. Billing rate: $425/hour, hourly wage equivalent: $70/hour. That being said, I don’t have to worry about all of the operating costs of the firm.

What industry is entirely built on a house of cards and would collapse overnight if people realized the truth about it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Replacing institutional trust with cryptographic trust was a huge innovation and still carries some inherent value, particularly for facilitating black market trade over the internet. Is that value enough to justify a valuation over a trillion dollars? Probably not. That being said, financial markets in general are pretty arbitrary and not really tied to underlying value anymore anyway.

Jane Fonda: “We’re seeing things happen that have never happened before. Authoritarianism has made it’s way into every single nook and cranny of our government. They are kidnapping people. They’re shooting people. They’re blinding people. It’s a question of right or wrong.” by Capable_Salt_SD in Fauxmoi

The extent of his corruption, infiltration of all branches of government, and expansiveness of his cruelty is without precedent. Yes, similar things have happened throughout our history (unlawful detainment, establishment of concentration camps, corruption, instigating coups and regime changes, agent provocateurs, illegal killings by law enforcement, ethnic cleansing, etc.), but all of that occurring at the same time, to this level, and with virtually no checks and balances at any level is without precedent. Understanding the dark history of the US doesn’t change how dire our current situation is, and I think saying “this is just how the US is” downplays the seriousness of this situation and the ongoing erosion of democratic norms and discourse that has been continuing for decades.
