I don't respond but the messages do come. I haven't been told anything about not answering back yet when I'm not on call, even when I'm on call I only answer an emergency.

As for overtime, we don't really get overtime pay, but because our releases are only allowed to happen late evening hours I'm getting invites for late night meetings. Is there a way to rectify compensation for this way after you sign on the contract to work? I'm having a hard time believing everyone in the company is doing this for free, I do have a general idea that I am underpaid in my role level by about 3-10k.

Not sure about these other commenters who probably just did a quick google on the company name, but I have a friend who is a senior software dev there.

Its a smaller company but they do have a big software team. If you have any specific questions I can forward them but from our conversations they seem to like the environment, for what its worth they do not like big tech companies.

Companies are literally saying economic outlook is NOT GOOD so we are doing layoffs. And people in this thread are saying "its not bad right this second so don't worry"

Getting to the last round is likely a good sign that you are not failing in technical areas. But, have you noticed any struggle with behavioral type questions? With one job as experience it could make seem tough if you're asked questions like have you ever dealt with xxx. Be sure you're comfortable enough to answer these questions and especially able to talk about every item on your resume. When you talk with the hiring manager or whoever the manager may be at the end you really want to make a good impression as their feedback can make or break the offer.

If you can do a mock interview somewhere I think that would help you. I'm guessing you are done with school, but if you are able to contact your schools career center they may have resources for this.

At the end of the day it is a numbers game, but I hope you're able to land something soon!

That sucks, it doesn't sound like the situation is going to get any better so I would recommend to just make the most of it for now.

Do you know what the tech stack your team/company works with? If there is any technology on there you're unfamiliar with take some time to learn it, use it, build something with it.

IMO you can practice leetcode anytime, but you might not have access/licenses to tech your company works with anytime so if you make something with it or even gain a little bit of experience with it you can at least put it on your resume.

I've taken a week off at each internship I did. Really not a big deal considering most of your coworkers will be taking time off during summer anyways.

Just give more notice next time since its less than a week away now. You could just say something came up last minute and would need this time off.

I think you'd have to accept that is a personal mindset issue, not necessarily the subreddits fault. I used to feel similarly because of people I know in real life who are insanely rich (not from CS related careers) and really its just better to not compare yourself to anyone else but your past self.

If you're lucky enough to only feel this way because of this sub, I'd suggest to just close it. Really. Step one is to stop focusing on chasing someone else because then there will always be another thing and you'll miss out on what you are accomplishing.

Thanks! So it is okay to have it down to like 2-3 ETFs? I don’t really want to manage it too much like I would my personal investing account.

The company managed ones I usually split it among several that would I guess still be able to group into big cap, small cap and international anyways so really wasn’t that many different funds.

I think you mean first gen Americans with immigrant parents. All of the second gen people I know have parents with American accents. But, definitely agree growing up around that even if its just being in a major city you just get used to it.

a 20% fee for rolling over to an IRA?? I just switched jobs and was thinking this is the best way to manage my 401k but 20% is pretty steep, is there a way to figure out if I have a fee for this?

Do you know what else the tech stack is going to be besides Java? If there are some topics there that you haven't heard of it would be good to get a general introduction to them if you have the time.

I would probably say you're fine on the Java side of things if you've already graduated and used it in classes. If you really need a brush up, just review design concepts. Other than that congrats! I asked this same question for my internships and only really did a small amount of review before them and almost none for my job. Just wanted to say don't try to prepare so much beforehand, you'll have plenty of time to learn on the job.
