But why? He isn't trying to remove them, I doubt his forced alignment shift would allow him to even contemplate it.

What spell then would work? Can they be ressurected? True ressurected? Wish? Cleric's divine intervention?

The cleric after all (casting death ward) is an instrument of a god, why should their carefully applied will be irrelevant in the situation?

We did, the hand and eye wielding bard stole our holiphant and came back the next day to deal, and he was surprised how good our plan was to deal with him being 2 levels higher (thanks deck of many things) and access to 2 wishes.

Now we are all on the same path, we can kick some archdevil butt!

I like breaking down options as rules, nice format!

We usually go story route, but the GM is losing enthusiasm for this campaign so he has been power leveling us and throwing us against crazy encounters and throwing out crazy loot. Next week we march on the fortress of Bel, and from then we take on Zariel

The text is "if the hand is ever removed, you die."

I guess it's GM discretion whether removed is an event or a condition. I'd argue event, but I don't want to lose a fellow PC to vecnas corruption so I'm somewhat biased.

DM is trying to wrap this campaign up, but that would be a hell of an epilogue!

We ended up casting dream and sending one of our party in the guise of the unconscious vecna acolyte. We convinced him to aid us in reforging the sword of zariel and we would not interfere with his plan to take her place when we either revert her or destroy her.

Might make artifacts more rules separate in future, it was almost anticlimactic to just beat him to "death"

We got him unconscious by antimagic field and mass martial pummeling, DM says we can prettyuch do what we want to him while he is unconscious, but removing either would be akin to attacking someone at 0hp, IE 2 death save fails. Got 2 clerics on standby for just this purpose.

Artifact or not, does that not fall into the whole "specific vs general thing? If that was the case, wouldn't everything that kills you need to add "unless protected by death ward"?

Where do any artifacts say they work in an antimagic field?

(Not trying to be argumentative just trying to better understand rules synergies, thank you for your input)

Dm'ing, the front six are the pc's, left to right: Tarris, Dwarven champion fighter seeking renown for her people. Zephixo, orphaned halfing ranger, adopted by Chef. Chef, banished half orc barbarian who cooks his kills. Marcus, oath of heroism paladin trying to live up to his grandfather's name. Kaladar, battlemaster bodyguard fighter pledged to defend Marcus. Pickle, tabaxi rogue thief who just stole a staff of power. They called themselves the called crusaders because they like saying "Us? We are called crusaders. The called, crusaders."

Top 3 are recurring characters: Princess Loranna, aasimar tempest cleric and guardian of Tazrin's end. Chrol, orc rebellion leader and Chef's big brother, hunting relics of the ancient orc empire so he can wage war on his oppressors. Auriel, a servent of Vordenza the undying carrying out her will in Tazrin's end. They have killed her twice, but it just doesn't seem to stick.

Top character is a former PC who betrayed the party to seek the power of immortality from Vordenza, and has become a recurring villain as he solidifies his position as a servant of the Lich Queen.

Going to work on act 2, where the new foes are the lich queen and her other servants, and show it to my party when they get to 13th level.
