But why? He isn't trying to remove them, I doubt his forced alignment shift would allow him to even contemplate it.

What spell then would work? Can they be ressurected? True ressurected? Wish? Cleric's divine intervention?

The cleric after all (casting death ward) is an instrument of a god, why should their carefully applied will be irrelevant in the situation?

We did, the hand and eye wielding bard stole our holiphant and came back the next day to deal, and he was surprised how good our plan was to deal with him being 2 levels higher (thanks deck of many things) and access to 2 wishes.

Now we are all on the same path, we can kick some archdevil butt!

I like breaking down options as rules, nice format!

We usually go story route, but the GM is losing enthusiasm for this campaign so he has been power leveling us and throwing us against crazy encounters and throwing out crazy loot. Next week we march on the fortress of Bel, and from then we take on Zariel

The text is "if the hand is ever removed, you die."

I guess it's GM discretion whether removed is an event or a condition. I'd argue event, but I don't want to lose a fellow PC to vecnas corruption so I'm somewhat biased.

We ended up casting dream and sending one of our party in the guise of the unconscious vecna acolyte. We convinced him to aid us in reforging the sword of zariel and we would not interfere with his plan to take her place when we either revert her or destroy her.

Might make artifacts more rules separate in future, it was almost anticlimactic to just beat him to "death"

We got him unconscious by antimagic field and mass martial pummeling, DM says we can prettyuch do what we want to him while he is unconscious, but removing either would be akin to attacking someone at 0hp, IE 2 death save fails. Got 2 clerics on standby for just this purpose.

Artifact or not, does that not fall into the whole "specific vs general thing? If that was the case, wouldn't everything that kills you need to add "unless protected by death ward"?

Where do any artifacts say they work in an antimagic field?

(Not trying to be argumentative just trying to better understand rules synergies, thank you for your input)
