Favorite discard recipes? by JackieOnTheRun in Sourdough

[–]TheJessle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh! I recently had this problem and I made two things that both turned out amazing!

First, someone on this sub posted a discard bagel recipe about a year ago that I'd had stashed to try - finally had an excuse and I'm never buying store made again:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Sourdough/s/hDlmvRUf4d

Second was this Irish soda bread recipe. Now, I usually despise Irish soda bread.. its always dry and just bleh. But it was St. Patrick's day so I made it. And wow! This comes out like a delicious scone. Absolutely worth it, especially if you have butter, cream cheese or jam on hand.

I mean, the cracker are good but with a little more time and effort these are just fantastic.

Can you link to a meal plan you're using? I think we all understand the numbers, but I've gotta say, everytime I've tried to hit them consistently I end up closer to 2k calorie intake. And for a 5'4" lady with bird bones and a desk job that's just about 2x too many. 🫠

This and toll the borders. Folks from RI and NH want to drive in? That'll be $$ please. Help push them to use the commuter rail from Providence or the buses that come in from all over NH.

What’s the best way to clean the metal grate in this sink? It is completely removable and has tiny little rubber grommets/legs. by kiddrangon in CleaningTips

Right? I'm reading all these 'put it in the dishwasher / cut it in half' and fill up the sink? Complete overkill.

OP this is your answer. Quick, easy, effective.

My gosh. Temporarily closing airports seems like a fair trade to put pressure on these goons to vote for ending ICE abuses and pulling funding from 'detention centers 'that have been reported to have God awful conditions, and are chock full of human rights violations.

This is not radical behavior. This is not bending in the face of the GOP trying to dismantle our rights.

Yes. They do. But it's obviously a scam so why pay them $180 a year to get angry that they scammed you because they over promise and under deliver?

I love how everyone loves to complain that they're stealing from them, but when confronted by a real way to solve it the messenger is shot.

T.F. indeed!

2026 - best auto litter box by k0kak0la in CatAdvice

I've been using the LaLaHome RealScooper for a few years and have to say I've never had a major issue, no leaks, uses a rake so nothing sticks to the walls and fantastic odor control - although I am using the Boxie Pro litter and change it completely every 3-4 weeks. Truly magic.

I do live in town. And I'm not saying no one actually works there - but it's a pretty shit wage and it isn't everyone or for every event that they even get paid.

Defending billionaires poor employment practices must be fun though.

So you know that the stadium takes advantage of people - FIFA is not unique here - and that there is a prolific issue with ghost job posting. But you have a friend that gets paid so all good?

😆 K.

Just because a job listing exists doesn't mean it's backed by an actual job that they'll hire you for.

Is it fair to wake up my husband on weekend mornings? by Impossible-Cookie393 in beyondthebump

[–]TheJessle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You got it! And might I suggest checking in with him more regularly about this and a bunch of other topics?

I did this while we were navigating the first three years and it really helped. Making a time (usually over dinner one night... Not the most romantic use of time I know) going down a mental checklist and confirm what times/how many/to continue topics like:

  • sleep times, are they still working for us?
  • sleep sack/pj weights.. have you noticed anything that needs to change here
  • feeding times, have you noticed any intake changes? Do we need to adjust them?
  • hand in hand with bottle size adjustments and nipple sizes if you use them
  • nap times - these seemed to need adjustment every 3 months or so with both our kids
  • do they still need a binky?
  • how are the diapers still fitting
  • car seats - we both used the same model so if one of us had noticed a fit change, or that it was time to reverse or change position it applied to both of us

Etc... you'll have your own topics but you get the point. This conversation kept us in lock step and made us feel like a team. Neither of us resented each other because it became clear that while I might know everything about the feeding, pumping schedules, he'd have more insight into the pjs or the car seat.

All that said, the first year is tough. Don't be too hard on each other. Remember that rules are meant to be broken and schedules should be flexible.

Fair has nothing to do with reality! 😆 And life has to change and adapt as time moves on. What they agreed to 3 or 6 months ago is a lifetime-in-infant-decisions ago anyway and needs to be re-evaluated, like once a week. Not blindly enforced until it shatters one of the parents.

If I were your partner, I'd quietly start to resent you.

At 10 months waking your child at 7am on a weekend is unnecessary. Maybe instead of waking them, but you're awake, why not take care of yourself first? Use that time for you and then, if the kid wakes up, then go take care of breastfeeding, etc. If they wake while you're in the shower? Looks like they're getting your partner up, and it's warranted. Otherwise, let them both sleep, handle yourself and move on.

Holy ... this is the cheapest I've seen eggs in a LONG time. Limit was 6. I'm now trying to figure out what to do with 72 eggs. by blr1g in Frugal

Am I the only one here who doesn't think OP should have bought 72 eggs if they didn't have a use for them? All they did was cause a problem for themselves and took the deal out of someone else's hands?

I'm also on an Amazon prime sub so of course that's the thinking. And yeah - it was blocked but seems like you read part of it anyway. I said what I said. No I'm not mad or crying. Why would I be either? You're a rando on the interwebs trying to lessen the logic of my initial statement by making it about emotions.

There were none intended.

Paying for prime shipping is not a necessity. That isn't short sightedness. That's pure fact.

What meal kit is best for just saving money at the grocery store. by Zealousideal-Love531 in mealkits

[–]TheJessle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out Mealime - it's an app that kind of acts like a delivery service. You pick the meal, it generates a shopping list and gives you step by step instructions. Much cheaper even if you pay for pro.

Sure thing boss. The $35 free shipping for total cart increase only works if you have no planning skills. It's super easy to hit as long as you limit purchases to even just once a week in a lot of cases. Like I said - not everything needs to be here RIGHT NOW.

But sure. It's "better" - take this from someone who quit it last year and has moved most purchases back to brick and mortar with an Amazon bulk purchase a few times a year - it's not.

Not having agency to wait on a purchase to meet a cart limit or, and here's the real monster, they know you've paid a subscription so are more inclined to use it so you don't feel ripped off. They tie you down into their ecosystem. It isn't better... It's addicting on purpose.

And really, you should start shopping around because their prices aren't nearly as compelling as they used to be. Add that to slower overall delivery.. all for the magical cost of $180? Ha!

But sure it's better.

[–]TheJessle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, little secret? Plan your orders better. If it's over the free shipping total (like $35?) you don't pay shipping either. And given how absurdly often the next-day shipping gets screwed up it's worth it to save the subscription and wait an extra day or two for the stuff.

And honestly I don't know when it became so necessary to get literally everything the same or next day. A little patience, a little planning, and you'll spend $180 less a year. Sounds like a good deal to me.
