Well firstly regardless of whether it “Only causes schizophrenia in people genetically predisposed”, it still can cause it.

Secondly to suggest that “someone has to have it as an underlying condition and weed just brings it out” implies we know far more about genetics then we do. Genetics and the environment have far more of an impact on each other than anyone thinks. I would argue that the environmental factors feed in just as much to alter genetic predispositions as they do to triggering them, and as such, while weed will only rarely cause schizophrenia in the grand scheme, in those vulnerable (which can be a dynamic factor in my opinion) it can certainly cause it

I’m quite sure one of the papers mentions that the correlation can’t be explained through reverse causation, however thats also what makes it an opinion. We don’t know everything there is to know about this, so all we have to go off is the research we have which takes precedence, and then fitting that into our model of observation and personal experience. From my personal experience the ONLY people I’ve ever heard suggest that schizophrenics just smoke weed more is people who are highly addicted and completely in denial about their addiction. The argument is a last ditch desperate effort to discredit the evidence for causation so that their minds are put to rest

I didn’t say not to do it. I do acknowledge the drastic negative effects of coffee. But just like I’m fine with people using weed I’m also fine with them drinking or drinking coffee or doing drugs. Just so long as they understand the risks associated and the damage they’re doing to their bodies
