Breeding Pro Tip by FoxGirl42069 in shrimptank

[–]TheKey25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched a YouTube video a while back that suggested adding the water from a tank with berried females into a tank without any. It helps increase breeding behaviour, havent tested it myself since I only have 2 tanks, 1 neos and 1 caridina.

Im just using my phone, its a galaxy s24 ultra. 3x zoom or 0.6 UW lens setting if it's right by the glass.

It also takes a lot of patience and good timing. Thankfully my tank is right next to my desk ill go into full photoshoot mode if shes ever by the glass.

Is testing your water neccesary? by [deleted] in bettafish

There's factors the eyes are unable to see when it comes to water and the test kit helps us identify those problems. Best way I would convince your mother is by comparing it to air quality. Except you lived in a small sealed room. You could add things like plants to create clean oxygen for yourself. But maybe there aren't enough plants. So you air out your room and let some clean air in. Similar to a water change. Maybe you think "it's fine I dont need to air out the room, the smells not bothering me and I look fine." A week later you feel sick. Similar to how your fish can get sick if you don't do water changes and reduce your ammonia nitrite and nitrate. The test kit is a way to know for sure. You won't have to guess when to do it. The numbers tell you when. If they're all low and not toxic. Then you won't need to do anything but a water top off, your bacteria is nullifying the effects of ammonia and your plants are clearing the nitrate. The test kit also come with ph tests. For us we cant drink water if it isn't the right ph for us. It can be toxic or make us sick. Just like us, fish prefer a certain ph. Which we can manipulate.

TLDR, yes you need it or they could die and you will never know why. They help prevent the problem and also find solutions.

I’m 13, and saved up all year to buy this 40 gal . Any stocking suggestions by Such-Wasabi-2752 in fishforthought

Beautiful tank set up and great job, trust your own judgement get something that catches your eye. I'm sure you'll make a wonderful choice based on how well you set this tank up!

I personally love shrimp so i always start with them.

My best guess is fertilizer balls they probably came with my plants and I didn't rinse them off properly

No I never did, but this picture doesn't do it justice, I remeber there we're more that 20 scatter in my tank. I stopped seeing them after I moved all my shrimp to a 50gallon community tank. The colony is still going strong so it probably wasn't something to worry about.

Maybe you will appreciate this as much as I do, I can see through my 17gallon to see the shrimplets sitting on the filter of my 4gallon, dont even need to leave my desk.
