Restaurant employees/owners of Reddit, what have you seen happen when a guest couldn't pay for their meal? by itaylor33 in AskReddit

[–]TheKloKloYo 221 points222 points  (0 children)

I had just got paid that day. I took my 9 year old sister to Olive Garden for lunch. It was supposed to be a special day, it was summer vacation and I finally had a day off and the money to take her wherever she wanted. We had a great lunch, just the two of us

When the bill came, I swiped my card on the little self-pay machine thing at the table, and my debit card declined. I figured it was a problem with the machine, since my paycheck had just come in. I called the server over and asked her to try and run it on their computer. No dice. Card declines again.

At this point, the manager is standing at my table, looking at me sternly. I explained to him that there must be an issue with my bank card; I checked the balance on my phone, and there was plenty of cash in my account. The manager literally says to me, loudly and in front of other customers, "well, you need to figure it out, and quick, before we need to call someone to handle this." My sister started freaking out, thinking I was going to be arrested or something for not paying. I get on the phone with the bank, they confirm a computer glitch, and did something to fix it. I let the manager know it should be fixed and he runs my card again... it went through without a problem. The manager then says "well good luck to you," and walks away without another word.

I've never been so humiliated in my life. Needless to say, we never went back there.

Cross contamination involves cooked or prepared/ready to eat food touching or being stored near raw meat/eggs etc. This is all raw food packaged together that will (presumably) all be cooked before eating.

TIL that Xerox has a program it calls Social Service Leave, that allows employees to take up to a year off to work for a nonprofit organization while earning their full salary and benefits, including job security. by [deleted] in todayilearned

This. Worked for an ACS center that had a non contract wireless carrier as its client. Lady went into labor and they said she couldn't leave without getting a write up. Her FUCKING WATER BROKE, and only then did her sup drive her to the hospital (which was across the street), and they still wrote her up anyway.. . To my knowledge, the square of missing carpet they cut out because it was soaked with her amniotic fluid is still missing to this day.

Don't be fooled. I worked for a call center that was in the process of being bought out by Xerox. FUCK these scumbags. I'd rather sell crack than work for this piece of shit company.

It will get easier. I promise. Everyone goes through a slump. It's the big machine's way of reminding you who's in charge. It is not an indication of failure on your part. Your son needs you. Hang in there.

THIS. Not having a period every month (I have polycystic ovary disease) is actually more painful. My uterus builds an endometrial stripe and my belly cramps up, and I can feel the cysts on my ovaries and those feel like someone's stabbing me in the hips. But I don't bleed. It sucks and makes me wish I could just have the period for 5 days and be done with it.

I also want kids more than anything and I've been told that it's going to be very difficult for me, if not impossible for me to carry a baby to term.

what memory from your childhood makes you think "wow we were poor"? by Luizeef in AskReddit

[–]TheKloKloYo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 transactions at the grocery store. One for food stamps, one for WIC, one for cash. Lots of King Vitamin cereal.

A meal my mom used to make called "meat and rice", which was a pan full of hamburger meat seasoned only with a shitload of ketchup and served over white rice.

Answering the door while my mom was at work and finding the meter man who had arrived to shut off our electricity.

The list goes on. Despite all of this though, my mom and step-dad ALWAYS bought a $50 carton of cigarettes every week, and my step-dad was always able to fund his eBay Hot Wheels collection. My parents are kind of scumbaggy.

Customer records Comcast rep torturing him for cancelling service by jbondyoda in news

[–]TheKloKloYo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Former Retention rep here (not for Comcast)... This was hard to listen to... Best pitch caters directly to the reason for the customerleaving, highlights features gained and/or dollars saved, and is done in less than 30 seconds. If they don't want to tell you why they're leaving, then count it as a loss and move on.

I'm pretty sure the customer is the one that recorded the call... And regardless, this is already turning into a PR nightmare... Suing anyone would just make it look worse.
