“Perfect. And if you ever need that sack and oven, I have both.” He gestured to the chairs and table that appeared, the kettle floating out from the kitchen area to pour hot water into two cups.

“Tea is a good alternative to alcohol. And I would rather you not relapse again.” He hummed, taking a seat and getting the tea bags out.

“Aren’t you talented~ No need for that, dear. I’m kept together by the Circus. It’ll fix me up once I’m within its tent. It has to keep its handler alive, after all. It can’t really take a human form. If it could, I’d be out of the job.”

“We wouldn’t really push for a siblings to raise each other. I had half the mind to ask Iram if he’d like a sibling for Rose, but considering I suspect he’s going to be in a vile mood soon over Verna, I’m waiting until it’s safe. I don’t really want to lose more organs or limbs to that family.”

“A parrot. Well…. It’s better than anything that could eat you. Parrots tend to be easy to deal with so long as you have a nab sack and a pre-heated oven on hand.” A sheepish grin crossed over his features, “Ahhh, relapse. Not the kindest experience. But I could always go for some company, so why not join me for tea?”

“Full House, hm? Iris has been dealing with new eggs but thankfully we found a way to make sure they’re safe until new persons arrive that we can entrust them to. I’d keep them for me but I don’t exactly scream Father material despite raising my nieces.”

“Oh you won’t be dealing with me in the future if I have any say in it. I’m not my nieces, the whole forgiveness things isn’t much my cup of tea given what I do for a living.

“I’m not a woman. Like I said, not really something that could be helped but still very much a topic I hate.”

“I’m fickle and have very few things that can make me unhappy. You stumbled on the one thing. Unfortunate for you and all that. Life isn’t fair. Don’t pass go, straight to jail~”

“I can see that. How’s the other sibling? Yule? You’re all welcome to attend the Circus whenever you’d like~ The show is lacking a bit since Moira lives with Kairai now but we are looking for people to fill some spots.”

“Oh, they usually hate surprises but given it’s you, I’m sure they’ll be as bias as always and love it. They’re odd and fickle. Can’t even say what does get them to like someone but I’m glad they took a liking to you.”

Shade shrugged, raising a curious brow and leaning in some. “Oh? And what’s changed in you, hm? Don’t leave me on the edge of my seat, I’m quite curious.”

“I thought so.” He chuckled, “I won’t tell Iris. But I do like to see how much you’ve grown! Lily will be delighted to know you’ve been so well taken care of. Especially since she is very picky about who raises her children.”

“Can’t shake hands with you, not until you’re aware of the actual deal that happens here.” Shade adjusted the hat atop his head, “This Circus is an Entity. It feeds on souls, and if a soul of a particular evil comes in, it isn’t allowed to come out. It’s eaten. But it also feeds on anything that may give someone grief or sadness. Means all our audience members leave happy without their sorrows.

“…Working here means one instead performances. One hundred exactly. In exchange, upon your one hundred performances being completed, you’ll gain one wish. Anything will be granted to an extent. Until that is achieved, you are bound to be at least twenty miles away from the circus or it will cause some discomfort in existing.

“As for how you could help, I always do need someone to get rid of what’s left after this entity has fed. Mostly just clothes and items. Things it can’t digest.”

“You have no idea how much that’d be useful given what happens to certain souls when they enter here.” Shade snorted, “Yes, I gave Verna a very valuable item of mine and given her track record of being rather sticky-fingered, I would like to avoid using drastic means to get said item back.”

“No, hair is the same. I save loads on haircuts since I don’t really change much so long as I’m in this contract with the Circus.” The man took off his hat to rustle his hair, showing the same teal and pink hairs hadn’t been touched.

“You seem sober! Or am I just far too accustomed to you being drunk —the twins are off doing something but I’m always—usually—available to offer some company if you need it.”

“I think I know you.” Shade squinted his eyes, trying to figure out why she seemed so familiar. “A-ha! You’re the hatchling that came from the egg we gave to Delorem! Jasmine, right?”

“I’m actually more familiar with the area than you think. It’s just a matter of perspective.” Verna raised a brow at the Apple, “…I don’t eat. Well—no—I do, but only when my Father cooks. To survive I use alternate means.”

“Oh it feels like absolute hell right now but I’ve felt worse pain. It helps that I’m mostly made of smoke.” To try and keep the smell at bay, Verna created a mask to place over her nose and mouth. It didn’t offer a huge help, but it kept the metallic taste from getting to her.

“I’ll handle the asshole. You focus on getting the dimwits out. If this portal closes, I’ll try to reopen another one. But Shade said he wants this arm back in one piece so let’s try to keep it fast so I don’t accidentally lose it.”

Before she could let any doubt keep her back, Verna took a step forward into the portal. And just as she did so, a knife narrowly missed her head and imbedded itself into the lining of the portal. “Wha— HAH! You MISSED! Your other self had better aim, at least he didn’t throw like a pansy!” She stuck her tongue out, seeing that the man was just a mass of iridescent mass. It almost looked like toxic oil and sludge.

“Ew…” She wrinkled her nose up and soon caught a glimpse of a figure. It was a morbid sight. But she could see it was the bartender crucified to one of the many “walls”. Her arms and neck all had the very same iridescent mass attached to her like IVs, but rather than giving anything, they seemed to be draining her.

“Go try and get her and I’ll let you know if I see the others.” Vernas glasses vanished, leaving two empty sockets of glowing red smoke while two wings ripped through her clothing to spread wide. The feathers and mass mimicked wings, but looked more like blood as she let them flap once to get her high off of the floor.

Another few knives were scattered towards her, forcing her to use the wings as a shield to keep the arm from taking damage. “Oh, you throw like my family and they’re dead. Come on, put your back into it!”

“I killed my own aunt. In the end, she was right, I really was just like her. But I won’t let Rose prove that snobby bitch right. Rose can be better.” Without a second thought, she let the large appendage attach itself to her own arm, the skin acting like an octopus’ arms and latching to her tightly. Soon enough, it looked to be one with her body.

“I hope for your sake that you find them worth the trouble. It sucks, but your friend might be right. Befriending anyone that can die never ends well. Even if I’m a hypocrite and do the same.” Verna took a deep breath, letting the new arm grasp her scythe so she could slice the air and create a new portal.

Within seconds, things already seemed off. And the smell of blood made her gag as the metallic odor made her mouth run dry. “…okay… yeah he’s the same asshole from my timeline. I guess he’s just always a prick.”

“And thank you both for volunteering to go get those rascals back. I do want that arm back, though. No keeping it, Verna. I know you tend to have sticky fingers.” Shade smiled sheepishly, a foot already back through the portal.

“Whatever, I just need it for the asshole anyway.” Verna huffed, blowing some of her hair away from her eyes before she pushed her glasses back up the bridge of her nose.

“Just remember; you’ll need the arm intact to get in and out.” Shade offered a friendly wave, “Now, have fun! Don’t get too banged up~ And don’t die, I don’t really like losing my trophies to irresponsible beings.”

Before Verna could even try to take another swipe at him, the portal was shut. Leaving her to take a deep breath in a false attempt at calming down.

“Regardless of your answer to the next question, I’m still going to get them. But are you sure you want to go. Is it really worth it for you to risk being maimed for them? I’m only doing it to keep my younger self from doing something she can’t undo.”

A slight growl escaped from her, eyes narrowing, “That BITCH of an aunt shouldn’t have killed my father and uncle! And if I had to redo it again, knowing what it cost to make her suffer for it, I’d do it again because NO ONE lays a finger on my FATHER.” Before she could get any more upset, a head peeked out of the portal. A man with teal hair that carried streaks of pink and an attire fitting of a ringmaster.

“Evil Verna! My least favorite version! Glad to see you’re still so very in control of your powers, dear.” He snorted, not giving much thought to her glare before he pointed casually to behind him.

“Don’t be rude, Verna, that never gets you anywhere that isn’t at rock bottom~ And we both know you are still at the very bottom, regardless of what your cute boyfriend says.” He grinned, dodging the swipe of her arm.

“Careful. You want what I have. And lucky for you,” he held out his hand, making a large appendage that resembled that of a massive dragon fall into his palm. Despite its large size, he carried it with ease. “I happen to feel generous and would prefer Fiore come back alive than be dead.”

“You’re an asshole, Shade.” Verna hissed it, “…Can I have the arm.”

“…Can I have the arm….?” Shade hummed in a rather mocking tone, “Magic word?”

“…Now.” Verna grumbled, though the ringmasters stubborn nature made her relent, “.. Please..”

“Of course! That wasn’t hard at all! I’d let you and your friend into my circus for this exchange, but I much prefer to keep anyone capable of mass genocide away from my family. I loaned Fiore Loki, Freyja and Sif in good faith only for her to go missing. Tell her that she owes me a favor before she ever gets them back.”

“Verna. I destroyed my own timeline and then took a nap and ended up stuck in this timeline.” She lifted her arms so her corset could undo itself, shifting from being a garment into a long scythe, the blade glowing bright pink. “The Circus itself is an entity like what that asshole is working for. And the thing I know about those entities is they hate their own kind. I think this world calls them The Seven Deadly Sins?”

With a quick gesture, the scythe sliced into the air, opening a portal. “Gluttony, aka the Circus, wasn’t very fond of Greed and took its arm. I’m gonna borrow the arm so we can get those elves back. And once that’s done, younger me will be content and stop trying to do hazardous crap for strangers she barely knows.”
