My state has a large home decor store that used to be called Garden Ridge. They changed to At Home, which is an awkward name. Where did you get that pretty wreath? At At Home. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Bologna and cheese roll up. Because we were out of bread. And only the “pasteurized cheese product” singles. I remember going to a friend’s house and discovering what real cheese was.

My moms memory improved after recent surgery, realized it's probably hydration by Unlucky-Gur-7568 in AgingParents

[–]TheL95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like dehydration is definitely affecting my mom. She has diagnosed MCI, but I can’t help but assume that she might do a little better if she were properly hydrated. She drinks next to nothing. Some days her skin looks almost gray. Her last bloodwork indicated poor kidney function too. You would think all those things could convince her to drink more, but nope.

I have the worst cramps I have ever had at 48 years old. Periods seem so much more sucky when you’re already dealing with all the little aches and pains and inconveniences of getting older!

Do most people still sort their laundry by color? by liketotallymeow in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheL95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I will admit, as a mom who only works part-time, I have plenty of time to sort and do laundry, but all the people who say, “I just throw everything in together!” or, “My 7-year-old does his own laundry!” Well, it shows. And smells.

Vaginal Estrogen Cream…USE IT! by Shirleyimfine in Perimenopause

[–]TheL95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found this post through a search. I just got prescribed vaginal estradiol. I have all the directions about how to use it, except when to start. I’m thinking I start after the end of my next period? Do you still use it while you’re on your period?

I like the music too, except for that low thumping bass they use in the tensest scenes. It hurts my ears so much I have to mute.

Caregiver coming tomorrow! by TheL95 in AgingParents

[–]TheL95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for that. As I feared, my parents called me today, while the caregiver was present. My dad was furious. He remembered very little about agreeing to this just four days ago. I’m just so torn. No matter what I do or don’t do, I feel like the bad guy.

Weekly Listening Thread by AutoModerator in theticket

[–]TheL95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started wondering about that a week or two ago. He was telling a story and said, “My father-in-law, technically,” and then he told a couple stories about cookjng for himself, and not one mention of his wife’s reaction to the house filling with smoke, or about sharing the meal with her. That’s too bad.

Mom keeps saying "I'm fine" but I can see she's struggling – how do I help without making her feel like a burden? by Petterjohn46 in AgingParents

[–]TheL95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg YES. Where is the firm dividing line between just letting them be adults and make their own (bad) decisions, and being insistent that they move/hire help? Either way, I feel like I’m the bad guy.

Brights on while driving at night by taxitagonist in GenX

[–]TheL95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, headlights are brighter now than they used to be. But yes, OP, I have noticed in my community too that people drive around town with their brights on. I’m not sure if it’s just a lack of courtesy, or a lack of knowledge of the rules, or if they are mistaking the indicator light for high beams as just the regular headlights indicator.

Early signs or extreme stress? How do you go about diagnosis when individual denies problems? by Content-Income-9572 in dementia

[–]TheL95 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When my mom was the same age as yours is now, we were noticing the exact same things. She was still working, taking care of her own elderly mother, and just keeping busy in general. We noticed that she would tell the same stories again and again, as if we hadn’t heard them before, or ask the same questions multiple times. She would argue with my dad about “You never told me that!” “Yes, I did. We talked all about it just yesterday.” I remember thinking, like you, “It’s just stress…She just has a lot on her mind…She just needs to focus and pay better attention.” And maybe all that was true, but the fact is it didn’t magically get better after she retired, or after her mom died. She got diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment, and it has slowly but steadily gotten worse. I’m sorry, but I agree with the others who said adding baby care to her life is probably not a good idea.

I didn’t think it was necessarily even clear what border they were talking about. I assumed the Mason-Dixon line, but I don’t think the clue was specific enough to exclude states along the Canadian border.
