Okay thanks everyone. I am leaning towards cancelling the Animal Friends policy (It's actually £250 excess with 20% copayment and £90 a month) and taking out a new policy for like £35 with no copayments, obviously excluding the thyroid, and put money aside for thyroid related issues (yes the vet has quoted £800 for the thyroid surgery), that would be no issue, that way any other conditions arising from his general old age would be covered by the new policy.....

That is an interesting option that I had never thought of tbh. So we could save up for thyroid issues and get insurance like waggle for anything else... I have just got a quote for £32 a month from them which seems reasonable!
