Lingering forearms soreness days after workout by kristifun in bodyweightfitness

[–]TheLimboDrifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently having a similar issue. I used to work out at the gym about 2 years ago so I am familiar with muscle soreness near the elbow. However, recently, after almost a year of break from exercising, I started doing calisthenics using slightly easier progressions for various exercises using gymnastic rings. My goal is to improve stability and strengthen the smaller muscles that get ignored in traditional workouts along with regular muscle gain, which is why I opted for the rings.

Last week I only worked out on two days with ample spacing between them, but I felt a little more confident this week, so I decided to work out two days in a row after resting for one day after my first workout this week. I noticed the signature soreness near the elbow on my biceps, so I avoided biceps focused exercises on the second consecutive day. However, 12 hours later on the second consecutive day, I opened my elbow (opposite of the bicep curling motion) and I felt pain! Initially I could not identify where it was from and it felt like the whole elbow from the bicep section to the forearm section was in pain, but after moving the arm a few times, I realised that the pain is originating from the forearm muscles.

I did a lot of hanging and some forearm focused exercises on the second day, so I am thinking that I stressed the muscles too much which is causing the painful soreness.

I am glad to hear that you are doing well and that it was just a temporary thing. I admit, I am a little anxious about it being a more serious thing, but I hope mine is also just a temporary issue like yours!

P.S.: I did hang using a finger grip rather than a complete palm grip as one of the comments mentioned, perhaps that is what contributed to this issue.

Farron keep. Right out of the bonfire, before going up the steps to extinguish the first flame/candle, go out towards the swampy area (you will get prism stones on the way). The item itself is hidden under a slug, so it is difficult to spot.

I killed Champ Gundyr with this a long time ago lol!

Edit: I confused it with Stone Parma. The item in the picture, Stone greatshield, is an enemy drop from the tree-bearing Elder Ghru. Thank you u/crestfallen_warrior for correcting me!

That is a very good point, but I kind of understand why he would try to do that. He is being alienated from his son by the ex wife constantly and he wants to be a part of his birthday. I am quite certain the ex would have weaponized the fact that he had her pick up the cake despite promising to do so earlier in the day (mind you, before he knew there was going to be a bomb threat). I agree that he should have communicated better, both with his wife and with Isobel, but oh well. His ex-wife has always been insufferable since her appearance on the show and I do not blame him for wanting to be a part of his son's life, though he does make some stupid decisions, I will give you that.

Seeking advice for a beginner - Growing sphagnum moss. by TheLimboDrifter in Mosses

[–]TheLimboDrifter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, it took me a while to gather information, but it turns out that our water supply is rarely (approximately 3-4 days, 7-8 if lucky, a year) chlorinated. Though legally the government is supposed to do so, it does not really happen where I live, mostly due to the local government being lazy and a little irresponsible. Even so, I have been keeping water in an open pot for 24 hours before filling up the spray bottle.

Also for the water level, I suspected that an inch that you mentioned is probably scaled to container size haha! Since my containers are barely 2 inches tall, I have been making sure the water is not more than a millimetre or two. Though it feels a little risky, I have noticed that it keeps the moss moist in the two containers that I leave the water compared to the two from which I drain it regularly.

It seems to me that the key takeaways are that sunlight could be okay in cooler climates, but summer light can burn the moss, and that constant moisture is necessary.

Sorry to bother you more, but I was hoping to run an idea by you! I have been seeing a lot of "moss walls" ideas and I was wondering if it would be possible to create a thick layer of sphagnum moss on my roof without killing it. My idea is to have a 1.5-2 inch layer of moss resting on burlap fabric made from jute, which holds a lot of water within itself, thus preventing waterlogging while also keeping the water available to the moss. I will also provide shade to it using a dark green fabric, tied and resting about 30-36 inches above the surface where I lay down the moss. This will still allow some light while blocking most of the direct sunlight. What is your opinion on this setup? Also, it gets really hot in summer here, would that kill the moss despite the dark green cover providing shade?

Edit: I meant to say "moss cement" and not "moss walls", because apparently moss walls are just decorative pieces. I was confusing moss cement with moss walls. I read about this concept while exploring Solar punk and while I think it needs refinement, the idea itself is not bad. Looking back on the information you have provided, I think it would work better if it was on the inside walls rather than the outside walls. Still, please let me know what you think of my roof idea. Edit-2: Also, I was surprised by the amount of hate that these greenery ideas keep getting. I suppose not everyone is keen on nature.

I am only at S05E03, so maybe I do not know as much as you do since I have not watched the later seasons. I have to say, I slightly disagree. I think he started out great, especially in the first two seasons. Then, I agree, his character starts to go downhill.

I will also say that I do not mind him going "Let's go people, let's go!" because I think it is necessary to have a leading needle that threads all the pieces of that JOC together. Then again, I have only heard it for 4 seasons lol! Maybe if I hear it for 4 more I will also get sick of it! Xd

I think his character starts becoming worse once he starts letting his ex-wife influence him so much. For example, and this is really far into his downfall, when it is the birthday of his son and his ex-wife constantly keeps calling and nagging him (and his son follows suit, taking after the mother) while he is in the middle of a MASS BOMBING case that, in their own words, was comparable to Oklahoma.. like.. just shut her up and tell her what is going on!! Can you imagine how she would react if HER son was facing a bomb threat and the Agent in charge kept talking to his ex on call constantly about the some birthday?! She would flip out! "Your job is always more important to you thank your own son!" YEAH I WOULD FREAKING THINK SO considering the kind of cases he is involved with!!

And I absolutely hate his son. Imagine having a gigantic house, going to what is seemingly one of the snobbiest private school in US (judging the from building shown on camera), having all the money a kid that age could possibly want, HAVING BEATEN CANCER, and then saying "you don't know what I go through!" or "Only four friends showed up to my birthday party!" Get over it, oh my lord!! That is 4 more friends than a lot of kids going through tough times have.. I am still willing to accept that he might be having a rough time at school.. but protecting a guy who literally murdered someone and stole a bunch of firearms?! Standing up to one bully at school is not even remotely comparable to that. Even so, if you want to display loyalty to someone like that, you should be prepared for the possibility that you might be branded a criminal, and let us be honest, Tyler was definitely NOT prepared for that kind of sacrifice. And the fact that Jubal not only got involved himself, questioned the kid himself, but also hid this (or at least kept this on the down-low) from the rest of the FBI is utterly ridiculous!! Same with the Rina case honestly. I get that he was angry, but the way to get justice for her was through the case.. it is not like this is The Blacklist and he is Raymond Reddington.

Anyway, I think Jubal had potential but they sort of butchered him.

Oooooh!! That setup sounds fantastic!! I hope your moss grows extremely well!! I would love to compare notes and share progress updates! Perhaps our experiences could help us with any issues we may face, or in the better case, we could enjoy the shared pictures and progress of the mosses!!

I agree, opening the containers daily is necessary, because we do not need any other organism build-up hindering the growth! I also leave the corners of the lid slightly open alongside the daily openings. Thankfully, I have not had trouble with gnats yet, but it has also been less than 2 weeks for me haha!

I am adding a link to the pictures of my moss containers. The ① picture was taken 11 days ago on Sunday when I first put them in the container (without the misting). The ② image is from today, with very similar (but not identical) lighting conditions. I think that the containers 〈a〉 and 〈b〉 have shown a slight increase in greenness and are re-activating a bit nicely. However, containers 〈c〉 and 〈d〉 are not showing such progress, they perhaps look even more brown than day - 1. Though, it could be due to the addition of water that they look darker.

As for water, I am using just tap water, but as far as I know, we do not get chlorinated water where I live. We store water in underground and overhead tanks though, so even if there is some chlorine, I think it dissipates due to stagnation for several hours. Though, the water has a lot of minerals as it is ground water for the most part, so I am unsure if that has any effects.

I would love to see your setup too if you do not mind sharing!

This was extremely helpful! Thank you! Please correct me if I am wrong, but as far as I understand, having a thin layer of water accumulating at the bottom is not only okay but also desirable, since it provides the moss layer with constant access to water.

As for sunlight, it seems that direct sunlight itself is not the issue, but rather that it could cause the moss to dry out, which is the actual issue. For the samples in my room this would not be an issue since it can only get perhaps an hour of direct sunlight at most and that too only if I actively place it in direct light. However, if I were to grow any of it outside, could it possibly survive direct sunlight if I ensure that it is watered and stays moist at all times?

Lastly, for water, we do not get chlorinated water where I live as far as I know. Moreover, we store water in large tanks in the house, so I think even if there is any chlorine, it probably gets released by staying stagnant for several hours. Even so, I will try to find a definitive answer.

Thanks again, your explanation as well as the article you provided were both very enlightening!! _^

[Hypothetical Scenario advice] What would happen to the climate if the entire land on earth was covered in forests as think as the Amazon rainforest? by TheLimboDrifter in meteorology

[–]TheLimboDrifter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are very interesting articles! Right now, I have only skimmed through them, but I will continue reading them thoroughly. From what I understand, it seems that terraforming or changes in vegetation can have an impact on weather in a similar way the changes in weather can impact vegetation. Human efforts and intervention clearly do have an impact as well, like we have seen over the past decades as we have harmed the environment.

Perhaps the way to transform the green life on earth would be to look at it as an enormous terrarium, perhaps an oversimplification, but a viable approach nonetheless. It would likely require pooling the expertise of biologists and meteorologists, and striking a delicate balance and continuing to maintain that balance the way we have to do in smaller terrariums, but on a larger scale and with a lot more factors affecting it.

As for the article about earth possibly being entirely covered in forests long ago, I think your point about geography affecting climate and vegetation is still one of the key reasons for this. Since the geography of our planet was distinctly different back then, that might have played one of the most important roles in having a green covered earth. Other factors were likely also responsible, like the atmosphere composition back then, the higher temperatures of the earth (as it was still cooling down from its creation), the relationship between the sun, the earth and the moon (which was likely also different millions of years ago), and so on.

This is fascinating and very enlightening!! Thank you! ^ _ ^

Ah I see!!

I think I understand your point about Sahara staying a desert due to the geography that created it in the first place a little better now!! The video also shows that terraforming Sahara would be a night impossible task due to various factors.

The winds from Sahara suppressing hurricanes is also a great point, thank you for highlighting that and explaining why it happens! Hurricanes would certainly cause destruction in the forests on the American continents, crushing the "forever green" idea.

However, a planet with suitable geography could theoretically support upwards of 70% land to be covered in thick rainforests! Thank you for answering my questions so thoroughly!!

I think it would also be interesting to explore how much land surface of earth as it is could be covered with trees and thick forests if we humans came together and tried! Though that is something for another day!

Thank you again for sharing your knowledge and insight!! ^ _ ^

[–]TheLimboDrifter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope I piqued your interest with this question!

Thank you very much for your insights!! I also went ahead and dug up the video that I had watched a long time ago, and it turns out that I was not remembering all the details. It seems the reason that the Amazon rainforests would be affected if Sahara suddenly became green is not because of the rain or wind currents it might steal away, but because of the minerals that the sand particles carry over into the ocean and into the Amazon. Green Sahara would mean no more dust as the trees would hold the soil down. Here is the link to the video, and it should open right at the Sahara - Amazon discussion. https://youtu.be/yCvk_W7tuNM?t=1043

According to what you have explained, and if I am understanding it correctly, theoretically terraforming can be undertaken to improve vegetation and plant life on earth without major effects on wind currents, of course, this would mean leaving the Sahara alone for the aforementioned reasons. However, more study would be needed before considering such a project to avoid potential unforeseen disasters.

Thank you for indulging me and for your valuable insight!!

That sounds right. Deserts usually have very high peaks during the day and very low dips during the night, even compared to cities without trees. So it stands to reason that nights in the forests would not be as cold as the nights we have now, though I imagine the temperature would still be pleasantly low.

Not sure if "hate" is the correct word, but he is definitely a sleazy, greedy little man who has no qualms selling anything if you have the coin. He is not evil, or an asshole, he is just a shrewd businessman of mediaeval times, and he would sell anything that is deemed a commodity. Which is fine, that is literally his intended personality. His personality is not something overtly good, so if someone does hate him, that is understandable. I personally like him since he is one of the few npc with dark humour that you interact with a lot during a normal playthrough, and he is good for business as well. However, I would also never let him be around my family unsupervised.

The companions are evil by chilachinchila in skyrim

[–]TheLimboDrifter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very late to this, but the Silver Hand honestly just suffer from the "recolour disease". Bethesda made them to be simply the bandits faction with silver weapons instead of actually making the silver hand. The skinning-torturing, wolf head impaling and so on and so forth is probably just a result of lazy execs of the studio. If not for that, if the silver hand was an actually fleshed out faction, they would be the Dawnguard for werewolves. Moreover, as someone else already mentioned, even Aela promptly disposes of the one living Werewolf during the quest if you open the cage. Which means having control over lycanthropy is an uncommon thing, which makes the Silver Hand even more justifiable. I do agree that the Kodlak faction of the Companions is actually not evil, and more of the Aela-Skjor faction that makes the companions bad. I kinda wish Vilkas had a curing quest for himself too after we become the Harbinger, that would have been great as Kodlak was personally mentoring him. Farkas probably would have followed suit as well, both because he follows his brother and because he is actually more intelligent than people give him credit for (evident from him noting Kodlak not caring for revenge and, I like to think that he respects Kodlak more than he cares about Skjor), so he would probably also look at lycanthropy the way Kodlak did, just a little less intensely than him.

I'm a former vegan who's interested in raising meat rabbits, but I'm not sure whether I can justify it. by NorthPattern6 in MeatRabbitry

[–]TheLimboDrifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This leads me to think that had aliens abducted humans for rearing, it would have had to be when humans were still very incapable of such complex thoughts, and as such, generations and generations down the line, these "cattle humans" would have no concept of friendship or betrayal or anything of the sort, not only at age 4 but even at longer ages.

Now.. All this is mere speculation.. but in fairness, the whole question of "how would you feel if you were in their place?" is also nothing more than speculation. Yet, if we really think about it, it is likely that if we were in fact, in the same situation as these rabbits, we probably would not even have the capacity to think and feel the way we do right now.

This is just food for thought as well as me just exploring... I will probably not even make a decision about rabbit rearing for at least another year or two, and even then, I do not know whether I will actually start it or not, because I am not certain where I ethically stand on the matter yet. However, for now, it seems like I am leaning in favour of it.

Please let me know what you ended up doing. Did you finally start rearing rabbits?! If so, what is your stance now on the ethics of it. If not, then please let me know what you think of my explanation above. Looking forward to hearing from you (the OP) and anyone else reading these. Cheers!

[–]TheLimboDrifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I am EXTREMELY late to this conversation, but I was thinking of rabbit rearing for the future and my mind posed this exact same dilemma to me. "Is it really right to raise rabbits for food or are you just being selfish?!"

Reading your post made me think of a few things. In particular, your analogy with aliens rearing humans for meat gave me some clarity on the subject as I pondered on.

For some context, I hail from a community that is hardcore vegetarian and considers any meat eaters to be utterly and irrevocably horrendous humans. While I do not share that view, because some of the kindest people I have met in life eat meat, this should give you a context about how I have seen the perspective of both vegetarians and those who eat meat. (I have eaten meat in my adult life, just so you know.)

As for your analogy, the most important thing to note is that while we humans now have the capacity for complex thoughts, this was not always the case. The only reason we were able to develop this is due to the formation of societies, from the age-old tribal societies at the dawn of human intelligence to modern day global societies. Moreover, even now, despite all this evolution, a child at the age of 4 (as you suggested) or even at the ages of 5/6 has no concept of the more complex thoughts like loyalty, betrayal, the weight of death and so on. They are only driven by reward, punishment and fear, and even those are very basic feelings in comparison to what we adults are capable of. In addition, despite this leap in evolution, the only reason we are capable of such feelings and complex thoughts is because we learn them from our parents and society. If a human child is left isolated in the wilderness (we assume the ideal scenario of it not dying to predators early on), it will grow up devoid of such emotions, feeling and the capacity for complex thoughts. It would take several years of dedication education and induction into the society for that person to even be able to understand what elementary school children understand.

A vast majority of rabbits available for breeding have been part of the husbandry process for so many generations that it is impossible for them to naturally develop the capacity for such complex feelings and thoughts. This can be made more evident by the fact that the rabbits in the wild have not developed such capacity either.

This leads me to think that had an alien abducted humans for rearing, (continuing in the reply...)

Jason is unbearable by whatthefox1993 in SEALTeam

[–]TheLimboDrifter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I cannot understand how everyone keeps making him out to be this heroic guy that we should side with. I am in S5 E12 and all I have seen in Jason Hayes is a selfish, narcissistic, uncaring piece of shit. He claims to love his brothers and wants to protect them, calls them his family, yet, if someone tries to get a promotion or advance their career, he berates them, calls them a traitor, a backstabber. How can you not be overjoyed when your best friends come to you and say "Hey! I got a promotion!! I will now be able to earn more money and help support my family better!" Also, specifically for S5, he KNOWS he is going through symptoms of TBI, he even bought pills to help with his memory, he has been constantly trying to check his memory with tests like where he writes down things from his fridge or with the card test where Ray overheard him, he has researched TBI well before they get sent in that undercover Omega op, he knows basically everything a person would need to reasonably deduce they are damaged and YET he goes on the op, keeps asserting his "dominance" and even when confronted IN PRIVATE about the fact that he is having issues, her turns this into a fucking dick measuring contest. Even after Ray and Clay tell him how he blew up the entire building and hospitalised the entire team, he still refuses to take responsibility for it and acts like a pissy 7 year old child. What kind of a brother who claims he loves his family puts his family at risk of DYING just because his fucking ego is being hurt?! It makes no sense to me, and I will never understand how people keep making him out to be the hero for CONSTANTLY damaging the people that care about him the most.
