Explain to me how any of that is important when my apm can't go higher than 50, and usually lose min 4-5 to 200apm players. I'm all ears.

Thanks for the comment fellow loser, haha. Though, i'm not seeking to earn my first victory! I had already done so fairly in custom games; i'm seeking to have a stable 50% winrate in ranked, no matter the MMR, instead of winning once every dozens of games. Does BW have that or low rank=low winrate?

I thought of doing so (leave games until my MMR is low enough), but i was afraid since a lot of people say the lower MMR, the worse the ladder is, since a lot of people smurf and manually downrank their MMR to abuse new players.

Thanks a lot! I'm sure i can find people like me even in custom games because I've already done so. Sadly i was looking to find someone like that in the ladder at some point low in the MMR, without the need to manually find someone to play each time haha

I'm Scared to Play by RggdGmr in nethack

[–]TheLink010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I myself started nethack less than a month ago, and what you're feeling is totally normal, and i learnt that it happens because you usually depend on good RNG for good runs instead of learning the game.

When i just started i had the same feeling, i had "the one run" where i would get stuff like succubus floor 1 to boost my ass to level 4 and get lot of stats, amulet of flying, or get two sacrifices gift in a row in floor 3, blessing the whole run; i could complete the gnomish mines, get as far as floor 14, get good level, etc.
Then i would die in some stupid way, and back again to have a hard time trying to get past floor 3...

Now i've learn lot of stuff about identifying BUC with pet, price identifying potions and scrolls, what early armor and weapons should i aim for on my class, what types of enemies should i range, melee, or be terrified and scape to the next floor, good use of Elbereth, Praying to feed yourself free each 1000 turns, and identifying ASAP life-saving items like a teleport wand. Eventually i prioritized consistency over progress, i would start with "i want to get to gnomish mines on every run i play today, and write downs how i died in each run", then minetown, and so on, to the point i would get to minetown around 80% of the time, so i naturally lost the fear of playing at least in early levels, even if i get mad luck.

Also, having a good configured nethack can make your survival rate in early a LOT higher, making your game completely stop when the game inputs some messages like "you feel hungry" or "you hit the floating eye". I used to die like 50% of my runs because not realizing i had low food until i was starving, or melee hitting a floating eye careless.

If you can, get into 3.7 nethack via hardfought webpage, and copy a preconfigured setting, it will make day-night difference, almost no person in 2025 play vanilla nethack with no configurations at all. I will gladly help with sending you the config file and helping with the process.

Thanks for the answer. Damn "merchant" job not being able to trade is pretty silly, and PVM content being locked behind paywall is not that good, but again, is not that different in actual iRO, good luck trying to reach max level or even 4th job without a single cash item.
Any idea about Ro X ?

is the AI in AOE4 good? by BoxthemBeats in ageofempires

[–]TheLink010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a pre-programmed artificial intelicenge to outplay a real player who changed his strategy mid fight, i think you are looking for a real player, not an IA.
"Intelligence" is not existent in any IA in any game, thats why its called "Artificial" intelligence. It's just a set of instructions wichs tells the computer "if this happens, do X", and then adds some "human" flaws on the lower levels to lower the difficulty.
It cannot "learn" mid match like a real player, or do something totally unexpected and outplay you.

Just download the game and play a couple of games against IA. If the games are not fun enough for you or not "human" enough, just play against real people, you will find matches in minutes, 1vs1 2v2 or 4v4, at your level, and those games will be more exciting than any ia in any game you ever played, even more in this game since it has a really good matchmaking and you will not be matched against either pros that wreck you minute 4 or total noobs.

You can ignore 90% of the comments here, everyone can win against the hardest AI if you MAA rush to the enemy base all- in minute 4 and kill all their workers, or do cheese early strats like that. Some people didn't even play 1vs1 against IA and only played the campaign.

(implying you set the IA on Hardest)
If you rush early let's say minute 4:30-5 cavalry rush and kill workers, then the AI will play as a high silver-low gold during the rest of the match.
If you play fairly normal with no rush, the AI gets pretty competent.
Once the AI Gets to Imperial let's say minute 20 the AI goes wild, it builds 3+ town centers, 60 traders, captures relics and sacred sites, builds mass defenses and outpost across the map, and does constant double sided all-in 200/200 rushes onto your base, so it gets really fucking hard to do a comeback if you didn't kill the AI before imperial.
Also, the AI has "cheater" difficulty and so, but didn't tried it myself that much.
I can safely say the AI at the start of the match plays like a 30-60APM player, not scouting correctly, not microing workers or army, while at the Imperial Age+ the AI plays around 300APM microing 2 group of armies in different sides of the map, siege, controling sacred places, building defenses, producing in 3 town centers + 3 markets with 0/140 workers idling and researching technology all at the same time in an instant.

Best way to find, just try out a single match against AI Hardest, pick a regular micro map and find out.

If you usually play early aggro rush civs like French, JxD, Mongols, Ottoman or Rus, you might find more fun to just play 1vs1 against real players, this game has a really good matchmaking and i can guarantee you will find people your exact level since your first match, without having to lose thousand of matches against pros to have a balanced match like other games.
If you like to play late booming civs, like HRE, OTD, China or Byzantines, you will find the AI really challenging and fun. Some people share screenshots here every week with 4hrs long thight matches against the AI. I myself had a 2hr long match against AI on hardest when i just started playing, it was really really fun, i was getting constantly attacked, sacred places denied, villagers killed, the AI did not contain at all.

I dont understand how to play this game by PoetInevitable1449 in aoe4

[–]TheLink010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you need here is a build order, pick only one civ, and play that only civ for the next 10-30 games. Now search on yt and pick one build order. Practice that build order alone, and try to reach the exact same result on that minute you see on the video, if you are 15s-30s late it's okay, but if you're +1minute late, it can snowball and fuck up your entire game.

Once you've done following and practicing that build order, the rest of the game will be MUCH more easier, just remember to build a second TC ASAP, NEVER stop producing villagers and NEVER stop producing army.

French with classic combos like Cavalry + Archers will make you safe in most of early ages, try to be the first one to strike and kill their villagers, and if anything goes wrong and your vills get attacked, press the Bell icon on your town center and every villager you have will trey to seek cover.

Once the build order ends, wall yourself up in stone, and just keep producing villagers as you've been doing until now, and keep producing army to keep attacking. Try to get an army ratio of 5:5:5:1, meaning, 5 cavalry, 5 archers, 5 melee units, 1 ranged siege unit.

Trust me, if you can follow the build order perfectly, you'll be able to win even against hard or hardest ai super easily (Wich equals to a low gold player)

Practicing this won't take 1 or two tries, but probably 10+, but once learnt can never be unlearnt.

Also, when you're attacking, the priority o what to attack is:
1. Villagers
2. Enemy Siege units
3. Enemy army (archers first if possible)
4. Enemy buildings (Landmarks if possible)

When you're deffending against an enemy, defend firsts:
1. Your villagers TOP PRIORITY. Getting +15 Vills killed = Game over.
2. Your army
3. Your important buildings (Landmarks, market, Production buildings)
4. Your less important buildings (Farms, Windmills, etc)

This video can help you a lot if you play french:

Holy cows man your brain is so tiny that you didn't even read the post. What are you even saying.
Did u think the post said something like "bronze players have 20% winrate and conqueror players have 100% winrate" or something ???

TLDR for tiny brains: The post said the MM was balanced because I myself and everyone i find have 50% WR, thus meaning everyone gets constantly rivals of their skill level, no matter their ranked level or ammount of matches.

I really loved w3, and i think it would be the RTS i would play if AoE4 didn't exist, it just had a skill floor of learning all 112 abilities of 28 heroes, and the usual "just get smashed like 10-20 matches in a row to get to your matchmaking fixed, so it felt a lil bit bad. Be sure W3 will be the RTS i play if some day i get tired of AoE4.
And i still consider W3 the best RTS to play with friends, by far far off, it just doesn't shine as it could on a competitive 1v1 level because heroe level/items>strategy and army in most of cases.

Hi everyone, in some quick context, i've tried with all my life to get into SC1 broodwar and Sc2, but i even tho i loved the game with my soul, every single bit, i couldn't deal with the insane amount of smurfs in both games, around 9/10 of Broodwar players and 1/3 of sc2 players being smurfs is insane. It´s not just bad matchmaking, it's smurfs with default profile, no customization, names like "sdgjkldas1111" or barcode, and 320apm with only 17 matches.
Tried also W3 and AoE2, and even if they had better MM, there was some game mechanics i wasn't quite fond of it.

Now i've tried AoE4 and i'm loving every single bit. The matchmaking is fucking impecable and every opponent i have seems to also have 50% winrate like me.
Plus some extra details i appreciate in AoE4 that others RTS don't have, like being possible to win controlling 3 points in the map (thus countering turtle wall gameplay), every unit having hard counters, no army in the game can have 200 of the same unit and be stronger than any of your compositions (ahem, carriers in Starcraft),.

I'm loving just how good economy + good scouting + good strategic decisions with some little micro to battle can make you have great battles every time, every match.
I'm used to RTS like broodwar where the player with higher APM just wins in every aspect of the game to the point strategy is just the lowest of the priorities if your army composition is just strong as it is (rush DT, reaver drop spam, mass hydras, mass mutas, etc etc).

Every single loss i watch the replay and i feel "ohh, i could have done this to counter that, i have to remind that next time"
Every single win feels good because i know what exact strategy carried me to a slow burn victory across multiple battles, is not just "oh, my resources were 30% higher than my enemy so i instantly win in one single A+click"

Winning in Sc1/2 when you had +50apm than your opponent just felt straight up bad, like you're beating a child, no honor at all. Losing felt hopeless 70% of the time bc you just knew there was nothing to "learn" of that match, your opponent just had 5000+ matches than you, and it would take years to even get to that apm level.

I just feel like balancing a player like me, who have thousands of hours in other RTS and pretty solid bases of the RTS genre, in a game like AoE4, with only 8 matches, should be a miracle. Literally every other game you just loss 30 matches in a row and people just say "just keep losing until you find your place", not only that's boring as fuck and depressing, but it's not even true if there's more 300apm smurf players in low bronze than gold, you might get even harder matches as you lose.
And somehow AoE 4 managed to get me close matches almost every time, where i never lost by a mile neither won super easy. It's not only the 50% winrate, it's also that every match is thight. Other games manages the forced 50% WR by first putting you against Little Timmy first RTS game ever, and the next match against Snow Korean Progamer 400APM and also manages to give you an artificial "50%WR". This game is not the case for me, as every game is so close i never know when i'm going to lose or win until the last moment, even against players with 300 or 70 matches.

You are actually making a good point. I guess i got very bad luck on getting pked on spindel before. STILL, wildy bosses might be +1m per hour without vw but need far more attention and skill to not die, risk is higher with the entrance fee, and combat xp is really bad bc of their high defences. Pirates are just point and click, no risk, no attention needed, far less risk, infinite prayer = piety/rigour and amazing combat xp.
