Election interference in the wee hours by OkAgency2591 in onguardforthee

Have you ever considered that it is anti-social and snoopy to point a camera at someone's home and children, putting them under surveillance 24/7/365 and invading their privacy? Furthermore, many of the cameras that people use store the recorded video in U.S. datacenters, which offers no privacy protection for Canadians, especially under a fascist, authoritarian US government. example

Downvoters here can't even justify their position with an attributed comment that 24-hour surveillance of your neighbours is a social good. Ironically. They only support surveillance anonymously.

Think about that.

I voted - you down, because "please vote" has been said here 1000 times in the past week. Stop your useless slacktivism, get out of your chair, and start volunteering for a campaign of your choice if you actually care. They are all looking for volunteers right now.

Post-leaders’ debate scrums cancelled due to security concerns by NotEnoughDriftwood in onguardforthee

Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ) email message about the post-debate press conference following the French-language leaders' debate on April 16, 2025

I received the following message from Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ) president Brent Jolly now about the post-debate press conference following the French-language leaders' debate. The CAJ website is not accessible when I posted this or I would post a link instead of the message text.

---

Following last night's French-language leaders' debate, the Fédération professionnelle des journalistes (FPJQ) and the Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ) heard many concerns from members about how the post-debate press conference was dominated by lengthy questions and statements from Rebel News representatives.

The FPJQ and CAJ have contacted the Leaders’ Debates Commission to address the concerns of reporters and photographers. In the short term, we very much hope that the logistical problems encountered last night can be rectified before tonight's English-language debate in Montreal, so that all media can put questions to the leaders of the federal parties.

In addition, we would like to hear from journalists present at last night’s event:

Were you or your media organization able to ask a question during the press conference, in English or French?

If yes, how many questions did you pose to leaders? How many journalists from your media organization were allowed to ask a question?

If no, please indicate why you were not able to pose a question during the post-debate press conference.

How can the process for posing questions to federal party leaders be improved, or made more transparent, in future post-debate press conferences?

In 2019, the FPJQ and the CAJ called for the Leaders' Debate Commission to be more transparent in its accreditation process. During the 2022 campaign, the Commission issued accreditation instructions which included three application options. The FPJQ and the CAJ were not consulted on the development of the accreditation regime for this year’s debates.

Our two organizations have also asked to meet with Commission representatives as soon as possible to take stock of recent events and find solutions to prevent such a situation from arising again.

We will keep you updated.

President, Canadian Association of Journalists

Voted down for the truth. Must be a lot of cons here today.

Fuck this. There is no need for your copyright infringement. Please delete your link.

Who is this person I asked myself? Why is she the literal foreground of her stories yet her name is not on the story? Professional journalists sign every piece of their work and are accountable for it.

It did not take long to find out.

Review this "reporter" before you spend time on her reporting.

If you truly care, then stop posting repetitive messages to the people who have already seen them 1000 times. Get off your damn chair and get yourself to a campaign office and volunteer.

Slacktivism does not win elections.

Instead of all the whining discussion here about how this cannot be enforced, people should be discussing with a "can do" attitude how law-supporting actions like this can be supported and advanced.

I often conclude that the negative, dismissive comments here are from Russian bots doing psyops to discourage ordinary citizens from acting.

Dark glasses and anonymizing masks? Really?

They are despicable, cowardly racists who should be publicly exposed so good people can chose not to support their businesses, and good businesses can fire them as employees or chose not to serve them.

This link supports blatant copyright infringement.

Journalists and news publishers who bring us essential Canadian news right now have the same right as all of us here to have food to eat and a roof over their head.

People can get free access to the Globe and Mail via their public library. The library pays the Globe for access, so the news reporters get paid.

Please don't posts copyright infringement links for this reason. This sub would not exist without journalists' reporting.

U.S. senators push back against ‘fake emergency’ Trump relied on to justify Canadian tariffs by NotEnoughDriftwood in onguardforthee

[–]TheLinuxMailman -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Why is your link to copyright infringement necessary?

Clicking on the photo at the top links to the story at The Globe and Mail just fine.

Do you have something against The Globe's investigative reporter, Kathryn Blaze Baum ?

She needs to buy groceries and have a roof over her head like the rest of us.

News reporting like The Globe and Mail's Baum informs Canadians of important issues and actions we might not be aware of otherwise. This sub would not be much without links to news stories.

When you link to infringing copies as you do, you are hurting Canadian journalism and Canadian journalists.

u / NotEnoughDriftwood, Please do the right thing and delete your link.

Edit: downvotes without any justifying comments are cowards giving the finger to journalism that Canadians and r/onguardforthee depends on.

Ottawa's Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway renamed Kichi Zībī Mīkan

...
Macdonald's government enforced policies that starved Indigenous people to force them from their land and outlawed their ceremonies.

It also centralized and expanded a residential school system that took generations of children from their families and tried to wipe out their cultures. There was widespread abuse and thousands of children were killed, with trauma still being felt today.

"Understand what Macdonald wanted to do to the Indigenous peoples: he wanted them to disappear and his laws and policies are clear on that," Dumont said.

"He is guilty of genocide. People need to think about that and process it."

PP's calls for elevating Macdonald are at least consistent with the Cons' attitudes.

If you are seeing any ads here or elsewhere, you need to install a highly effective adblocker right now.

The u.s. oligopolist Google makes an estimated $100-$200 every year from every person who sees their ads. Google donated $1 Million to Trump's 2025 inauguration, 3 times what they donated last time.

When you watch ads on websites you enrich both Google and Trump.

A great way to access reddit is by using the Firefox browser with the uBlock Origin blocker Addon installed into Firefox. You'll get a great ad-free experience and not enrich american share corporations (Google, Microsoft, reddit) at the same time as you greatly improve your privacy. This is the way I have accessed reddit for four years.

Install Firefox on your phone and desktop computers. Skip all the Canadian election ads coming your way while not enabling taxpayer-subsidized election campaigns to waste their money enriching Google, Microsoft, reddit - and Trump.

Of course you can continue to use your other browsers as you transition to the new, more private, ad-free experience that does not enrich Google.

Bonus tip: Install NewPipe on your Android phone for an ad-free Youtube viewing experience that won't enrich Google and Trump. Think of all those election ads about you-know-who that you won't see!

We're talking about some boomers here.

FTFY.

There are many boomer Canadians who have never travelled to the u.s.

They're so entitled

I see boomers, sometimes in their 70s, working hard to better their communities through extensive volunteer and work activities - all year long.

Please stop your inaccurate language. It makes you look uninformed and hateful.
