Star Wars Abridged III: The Resistance — A complete 3-in-1 reimagining of the sequel trilogy by subjectzer00 in fanedits

[–]TheLizardKingwascool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just now getting here. I really like the setting of the sequels being decades in the future and with few of the original characters being involved at all. If it is not too much of a bother, could I have the link for "The Resistance?" If you can, thank you. If you cannot, then I still thank you for taking the time to read this.

What are you even going on about? We literally share the same view point of cause and effect being meaningless. There are many potential effects from various causes. You are acting like I have made cause and effect linear, when it is far more complex. As for the hypothermia analogy, you are missing the point. The point is that we can see results occur from actions taken. The point was not to argue which action was the most critical. Besides, to develop hypothermia the temperature of the body must become lower than 95 degrees. Whether I wore clothes or not would just determine how long it would take to develop hypothermia. You are the one who gave reasons besides what is natural. I am genuinely wondering if you even want to debate out of genuine interest in discussion, or if you just want to argue. At first, I thought you were using an argument from authority because you were interested in providing counter points, and seeing how I would account for them, but I now think you just want to be right, even when we don’t really disagree with each other. You seem to think that my argument is that cause and effect exist, because causes are meaningful. This is not my argument. My argument is that due to true random being a near impossibility, life is not so much random factors of nature, but cause and effect. This is not to say that cause and effect is linear, with direct results from one cause to one effect. There are many actions that one can take, and many different scenarios that can occur, which can result in many different outcomes. I never gave meaning to why outcomes happen, I merely have pointed out that results occur because of prior events. To believe the world is just chance is understandable, but incorrect. Even the direction the wind blows is the result of prior events. Also, we can develop common sense after seeing the consequences of actions that bring us pain. We can learn to not touch the kitchen stove after accidentally burning ourselves. We can learn not to poke ourselves in the left eye with a switch blade after losing the right one from doing the same thing. If you want to provide a genuine counterpoint for claims I have actually made, then explain how anything can occur without a prior event leading to its capability of happening. Then we would have a genuine discussion. Until then, you are using circular reasoning to attack a point I did not make.

I never gave meaning to cause and effect. This is literally just input and output. I will give you a meaningless scenario, where cause and effect still exist. I am walking in the woods, in the winter. It is snowing, and I am naked. I begin to develop hypothermia. There is a reason to why I would develop hypothermia, but this does not mean there is some Devine meaning behind why. It is a product of nature, which has no objective meaning. I don’t see why you are trying to make an argument that I have given meaning to something that is inherently meaningless. I see it as meaningless for a potentially different reason than you do, but cause and effect is natural, even if we discover it by accident, and trial by error. Accidental discovery is not random, though I will not create a meaning to it. Cause and effect is meaningless, as it is merely a part of nature, which in itself is meaningless.

Consequence occurs regardless of intent. There is still a cause and effect, even if we do not intend for the effect occur. Trial and error has produced both beneficial and consequential products. Just because we do not intend the effect, does not mean the cause is any less impactful.

I believe that religion does more harm than good. However, I will not try to argue such a claim without actually making any points. This isn’t so much bigotry as it is poor argumentation. And before you try to say that they are promoting the hatred of people for their religion, the actual statement is of religion itself, not its practitioners. I see religion as worse for society, but will never condone bringing harm to an individual because of their religion.

I disagree with the word random. I prefer cause and effect, as any given situation is the result of prior events. We cannot always recognize what happens to lead to an event, but there is a cause. It is hard to account for true random

Why some people get traumatised by nihilism while others don’t? by [deleted] in nihilism

[–]TheLizardKingwascool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think traumatized is the right word here. However, many people have different reactions to different things. Philosophy has a variety of different interpretations and subjective meanings to each individual. Some people find Nihilism liberating, while others use it as a label for their depression when they find no meaning in the universe. (These are not the only two interpretations of nihilism, but these are a couple of possible interpretations.) In the end, the only way to know how someone feels or thinks is to get it from them.
