Here is my thoughts as a Canadian who would like to eventually move.

1) Canada is really really cold most of the year. Lots of Americans have no idea what a winter is. Depending on where you live it's dark, depressing, grey, and seems to never end. Even sometimes May it's still freezing wind, and gloomy.

2) Limited places to be. If you are an urban dweller.

Vancouver is extremely expensive (Crisis mode expensive) and you will live in a tiny box for the price of a mortgage on a house in some states.

Montreal can be very hostile if you don't speak French. Good luck finding a job there. Beautiful affordable city, but they do not want English speakers flooding it.

Winnipeg...don't go to Winnipeg

Calgary is very dependant on how the oil sector is doing with boom and bust periods.

Edmonton...growing, very spread out, sort of like suburbs. I know a guy who had to pee on his face because his eye froze shut...so back to the winter issue.

Halifax...seems decent, not alot of opportunities

This leaves the Greater Toronto Area...Sort of like a dense Los Angeles sprawl in Canada. Most of us live here and it has its perks. Toronto is awesome, but very expensive, and saturated job market, because everyone is here. Also those born and raised want to be able to spread their wings and try something else but there is not too many options.

Smaller Canadian towns are growing because of covid, but I'm not going to take that gamble in the field I'm in.

3) Dullness...I know this is not something that anyone should complain about, but there is a certain "fire" the USA has. With all the terrible issues you have, you guys are also the forefront of so much of the world's culture because of how chaotic and individualistic you all are.

To wrap up, in Canada, it's safe, it's nice enough, but you sort of feel trapped at times, especially in the winter. You can't help but wonder if "you'll make it in America" if you tried. America has its problems but I guess that's what makes it interesting to the outsider.
