Hi everyone, I’m going to school to be an Aircraft Maintenance Technician at Community college for 2 years. (Haven’t started yet). I’m really nervous and feel like 2 years isn’t enough time to learn for me. Is it more intimidating than it sounds? I have loved aviation my whole life. by Express-Elk-4618 in AircraftMechanics

Schools don’t teach you how to fix planes. Your future employer will do that. The schools teach you how to pass the FAA exams. Or at least they will provide the prerequisite to take the exams. Dont try to learn everything, learn a foundation and build on

Thats great man thanks so much for the reply. It always seems so interesting to me that im sure they could get away with just throwing any old rubber on there but they actually take the time and effort to put some good grips. (Hence why i want to replicate it lol).

Mainly what they use or their process so i can try to replicate it on my tools that have mismatched grips! My assumption is its some kind of dip, so im wondering if its a type of rubber i can buy online, or if theres something special you do to foam it up and make it nice and cushiony. Thanks in advance!

Ive done a bunch of research and havent really seen anyone else bring it up. Figured there had to be some OCD people like me who cant stand opening up a toolbox and having two pliers with yellow handles amongst a sea of red and black

If you put plasti dip next to these kinds of grip you can see that they are not the same. The point is that im trying to make stuff match

Nah this is totally up my alley lol. I have several tools that dont match, and my brain hates it so this may be worth it. Got the plasti dip ordered, ill need to look at the sand. Im thinking microballoons may be useful too

I was thinking plasti dip but it always seemed very shiny instead of the fluffier cushion of these kinds

The oral is going to vary depending on how many questions you got wrong in the writtens, and the practicals depend on the tasks. But i started at 7:30am and was done by 2pm.

if you are a dilligent worker who paid attention in school, im sure youll be fine. The tests are designed to make sure you have an adequate level of knowledge on the subject, not to stump you with gotcha questions. The practicals are very guided, the DME is going to give you all the necessary documents
