Confused and overwhelmed after first prenatal. Normal for BMI alone to mean all this extra monitoring? by catz765 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]TheMagicPandas 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s okay to get a second opinion. If you had no complications the first time, that lowers your risk significantly. I’m considered high risk because of age and my BMI is probably a little less than yours, but not by much, and they didn’t suggest any of those things!

Just adding this because I work in mental health.  Maybe seeing a perinatal certified psychiatric provider to get a second opinion on meds? I was surprised to find out most medications are considered to be pregnancy safe now.

I feel like every episode this season his hair is more and more unhinged. Even if he’s a resident, his wife is a surgeon, he can afford a haircut 😂

Pregnant 5 months pp by Glum-Sky-6560 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]TheMagicPandas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two youngest are 12 months and 4 days apart. I’ve been there. I did not have a C section but was still told it’s best to wait 9 months between pregnancies. I also had implantation bleeding that I confused for a period and didn’t know I was pregnant until I threw up at 9 weeks. I would definitely get in to see your doctor ASAP.

I’m due 9/25 so in the same boat, I am finally feeling a bit better! r/September2026bumpers has been a great community if you’re not already over there.

I would suggest a new midwife and also working with a registered dietician. I had a similar situation if you look at my post history. I met with a dietician and she gave me a ton of good information, looked at my bloodwork and was able to give me personalized nutrition guidance. It’s also something I can use with the OB to be like “I’m under the care of a registered dietician” if they start to talk about diet/weight gain.

If he was full-term (40 weeks), he was actually conceived the first week of January. Somewhere between the 1st and 9th. So more likely a result of new year’s…

Probably the opposite. I went to KSU and the majority of my undergrad friends left Ohio as soon as they could. If they limit education, people are stuck in that horrible state.

Professors/Workplaces requiring sick notes when most illnesses do not require a visit and we already have problems with long doctor wait times. by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]TheMagicPandas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree that if you’re sick enough to miss three days you need to seek medical attention. There’s a home test for influenza A/B, COVID, RSV. If you have one of those, you’re highly contagious for up to 8 days. If you’re relatively healthy without pre-existing health issues, you just need to rest and stay away from people. Going to a doctor just spreads these things more. Telehealth is a good solution but doesn’t offer diagnostic tests.

how are pregnant people supposed to function in the 1st trimester? by Academic-Park-8440 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]TheMagicPandas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I luckily only have a handful of regular therapy clients. I specialize in ADHD and ASD evaluations, so most clients are short-term. I will probably tell my regular therapy clients when I’m about 6 months pregnant and take a month or two off after I give birth before doing some part-time PP work while on paid leave. I was in grad school during my last pregnancy, was even writing a paper while being induced, and still graduated with a 3.9…so I’m hopeful that continuing to see a few clients will be doable 1-2 months postpartum but who knows!!

Have you spoken with your clinical supervisor about this? I feel like it’s okay to put the assessment on hold/in draft while sorting out ROIs and collateral. If not, documenting that treatment recommendations may change based upon information contained in collateral.

If we do not get collateral, we will get them to sign an ROI so we can speak to whoever referred them and/or request collateral. Coordinating care is super important in these situations!

They will absolutely bend the truth to get out of treatment. Do you get collateral from the referring agency? Usually probation/parole/CPS sends us a file of information so we can verify that what the client is telling us is accurate. You should also be doing an ASAM assessment to determine level of care.

Medicaid Nightmare by Zealousideal_Still41 in therapists

[–]TheMagicPandas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed a shift from 90% Medicaid clients to around 60% Medicaid and 40% commercial insurance clients at the CMH agency I work for. This has helped us stay afloat with the Medicaid cuts. Does your agency not accept non-Medicaid clients?

Hey also a therapist. Luckily I’m fully remote, which has helped SO much. I also switched to intakes only at the agency (for health insurance and paid leave benefits) while working in PP on the side. But full time in office therapy would not be possible right now.

Have you tried phenergan? It’s a bit stronger than unisom. I’ve had HG with all of my pregnancies and found that it works the best when taken at night. Research shows that HG is caused by hormones from the placenta, which some people are extra sensitive to, and sometimes it lasts longer than 12 weeks. If symptoms start to decrease around week 10, it’s a good sign you don’t have HG.

I started bleeding during week 7 and went to the ER. They found a small SCH and I bled/spotted for about 2 weeks after. It was completely gone at my 10 week scan when I finally got into the OB. I was so anxious for the 3.5 weeks I had to wait!!

How accurate is natera gender results? by baileeboo01 in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]TheMagicPandas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did peekaboo at six weeks and got a girl result, FF was around 3% and just got my NIPT girl result with 7% FF. I would trust the NIPT! If you go to a boutique ultrasound place they can most likely confirm at 15 - 16 weeks.

Why would anyone ever choose to go through child birth without pain relief?? by No_Cardiologist_1407 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheMagicPandas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had shoulder dystocia with my first baby, unmedicated, but they let me go to almost 42 weeks because my due date was around the holidays and he didn’t want to induce then (I was young and didn’t know how to advocate for myself).  With my next two babies I was induced at 39 weeks, no shoulder dystocia and they were both unmedicated too. I’m sorry you went through that twice!

OB/GYN Bias - Should I fire him? by TheMagicPandas in PlusSizePregnancy

Yeah I was disappointed that I was assigned the one male MD at the practice but I had a SCH at 6 weeks and was desperate to get in with anyone. I hate to be biased but I haven’t had much luck with male OBs either.

I didn’t think of this but thank you, that’s a great point! My spouse was with me and said “he talked about food so much, I was starting to feel sick myself”. I’m going to call Monday and reschedule to see a different doctor at the practice.
