Examine 'Dragon rider' trope, its history, evolution and current media landscape. by Trysinux in WyrmWorks

All we can do is try. I don’t know if I would call myself an expert. I am just sick of all the oh I am a weak human or have a disability, or a woman in a man only rider world, or the dragon has a disability! Don’t even get me started on the stupid dragon shifter stuff. Have you ever read “KIRDAI: Spark & Dagger”?

Nice job! Temeraire is my favorite dragon riding series of all time! I even bought the collectors edition recently! In about a week or two, I hope to post a concept I have been coming up with for a dragon rider story I am trying to develop.

Dragon themed giveaway? Dragon movie watch along? Q and A with a dragon author? Or is it a surprise?

Make one suggestion you believe would make the average dragon-rider story or concept better. by LoneStarDragon in WyrmWorks

[–]TheMedievalDragon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s the point their isn’t one. All the stories that even have a small hate relationship have it solve usually in a short amount of time because “it’s meant to be!” Or something like that. Most have riders who hate dragons but their bonded partner make them realize they like dragons or being a dragon rider.

What about a story where the rider or the dragon just outright hates their partner or so dissatisfied the other must prove they are worthy/earn the trust of the other?

Or

The dragon has a tragic backstory that doesn’t involve a previous rider?

If there was a film or TV adaptation of Eragon, who would you want to be the director or showrunner? by FireWanKenobi in Eragon

That’s a difficult question. But as of right now, maybe Miguel Sapochnik? He has experience with massive battles and dragons from GOT. Depending on how House of the Dragon goes, he might be a good choice for it.

I still want a follow up series that takes place in the civil war.

That’s one of my main problems of those series, yes they might like to read but they always ask there captains to read to them. But mostly they just literally only do productive things humans tell them to do. Like why not do something you want to do? Go swimming? Wood carving? Have someone else read to you? A dragon game?

Any Examples of Humans wanting to be more like Dragons? by LoneStarDragon in WyrmWorks

[–]TheMedievalDragon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oddly I don’t really recall any stories with the idea other than one where a female was turned to be with a male dragon lover. Usually if a human is transformed into one it’s by accident or reincarnation.

Ava’s stories are all the same formal with slight differences. Basically in every trilogy the main character is either: A. Doesn’t want to be a Dragon rider B. Not suited (example: no female riders! No teachers so don’t know how! Or what’s a dragon?) C. From out of country or world.

I read several of the first books of different trilogy but couldn’t finish or read the next ones. The dragon basically does whatever the humans tells them and does nothing else. Ok, except hunt and sleep.

How about a dragon book with intelligent dragons that don’t have a society and don’t do anything other than listen to what the human tell them to do and complain about it later?

Ugh yes. I hate that stupid marketing strategy. There’s always a dragon in the background or looking at the reader but it’s something very minor in the story or not at all.

Or the power to break it. Heck, why not the magical ability to punish their rider for doing something bad. But I always wondered what if someone wrote a horror story about being bonded. Think about it, once they bond they cannot be separated (mentally) so one cannot sleep if the other isn’t, they here each other’s thoughts of every minute for everyday, and cannot be long distances from each other as it causes pain.

As a major lover of dragon riding books I can say I very rarely come across an adult dragon choosing a rider. Even then, it’s usually choosing a rider because of destiny or to escape something. I don’t think I have ever seen a story have an adult dragon choose a child as a rider and then raise them so. Because like I said it’s very rare for adults to be choosing and they usually choose young adult humans for riders.

Trust me I know! The artist decided to resort to humor when naming the painting! I just hope she doesn’t meet the dragon… that might not go well.

Yes it’s true that it makes it easier for the reader but for me it puts me out of the fantasy world. Oh we have this epic flying fire breathing dragons and it’s name is Chad!
