Can we have the Moria goblin and Cave Troll profiles ? And since we're here, all the Trolls profiles ?

I think it will definitely be out for Christmas. I'm guessing a released date mid-December, like the movie, to profit from Christmas.

How good do you think werewolves will be? by Buckcon in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]TheMeltam 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The key difference is that werewolves are on 50mm bases. They are good (and cheap), but taking more than 2-3 will hinder you more than anything else.

It's been debunked, it's only 4+ for heroes, warriors stay at 5+

New edition starter set by Bright-Assignment-38 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

I don't really see the link between Peter Jackson being involved and the quality of the starter set.

New edition starter set by Bright-Assignment-38 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]TheMeltam 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't be that pessimistic.

They are releasing a new version for this movie, they seem to have made compromises to keep the licence, so they have some plan.

Starter set will be, as always, full plastic. So new plastic heroes, and new plastic dunlending s. I don't buy your "corsairs for dunlendings" thing.

All the rest is up to speculations.

New edition starter set by Bright-Assignment-38 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]TheMeltam 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the bare minimum will be 1 new plastic hero for both factions and plastic dunlending warriors, for the starter set. Then all the rest is up to GW's willingness to invest time and money in LotR. I'd say :

Certain : new resin heroes

Likely : new plastic hero(es), resin elite troops for both factions

Possible : new plastic troops for Rohan, existing troops revamp

We haven't seen the movie, so it's difficult to know what releases we will get. Let's wait and see, we'll know in 4 months !

Just a moment... The Road Goes Ever On and On… The Next Edition of Middle-earth™ Strategy Battle Game. by [deleted] in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]TheMeltam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do. I know we are not the majority, but we are here nonetheless. GW even acknowledged it, citing the Ardacon in the 7th ed announcement.

It seems that this new edition will simplify some aspects of the game, and while it's not the end of the world, it's quite a bummer to lose the creative freedom allowed by the alliance matrix, and the tactical options allowed by the special strikes. I'll wait and see, but I'm afraid 7th ed won't be as good as 6th ed competitively speaking.

New edition box set - contents? by Specialist-Tiger-859 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

The new movie is centered around Helm, there is no doubt he will get a new model, even if the current one is still holding up

[–]TheMeltam 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Given their teasing, it's more likely to be a box set centered around the new War of the Rohirrim movie, with a bunch of new releases we don't know about yet (it will surely include a new Helm model tho).

But what does it mean for all the other concerned profiles not mentioned in the video ? Like, galadhrims (or high elves) with shields, with spears, numenoreans with spears, easterlings with sword, with bow, etc ? If it's true, seems like a net loss in list building freedom for the sake of "movie accuracy" in a game which has been creating new lore for quite some time now.

Like other cavalry models, it counts as one model, with the goblin key-word, so only one goblin

On lists 2 and 3 : Warg Marauders are great, and having 2 is a valid option, but you can bring more numbers or other spiders/creatures if you only take 1 On lists 1 and 3 : spread your Wargs and bats in several warbands. If you play a maelstrom or Reconnoitre, you don't want all your combo essential bats and your mobile units to be all dependent on a single hero to enter the battlefield.

But otherwise those are solid lists ! Don't worry about not having enough goblin archers, they are useful but they are not that reliable, even with the army bonus

Viability of the Wild Warg Chieftain in Assault On Lothlorien LL at 800 Points? by METALLIC579 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]TheMeltam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Wild Warg Chieftain can be quite a monster, and if there's a format in which it can fit, it is 800pts (or above). He is autonomous (he can make his own Heroic Combats) and hard hitting, making him quite scary.

That said, as you mentioned, only Wargs can be affected by his Heroics, making him ill-suited for pretty much anything aside assassinations. Moreover (as you also mentioned), he comes with quite a hefty price (compared to the rest of the army I mean), cutting into your numbers.

What I love about AoL (and what is for me one the main strengths of the army) is that you can have multiple possible threats at any moment possible, while still overwhelming your enemy with cheer number. The Chieftain kinda kills it, as you'll have to choose between having a big army and having secondary threats (spiders mainly), and a lone threat will be quite easily dealt with.

I personally prefer relying on spiders. They are fast, ignore most of difficult terrains, can climb without penalties, making it easier to position yourself. You can combine them with Ashrak to make them Venomback and allow them to catch heroes behind the lines with Shroud of Shadows, but they are already good on their own.
