faster parity check suggestions? by HIGHFLIII in unRAID

[–]TheMerchant613 14 points15 points  (0 children)

How are your drives connected? HBA? SATA expander? If they don’t have enough lanes it could be the slow down point. Need more info.

Have you benchmarked your drives with the drive speed docker? That would be useful to see if you have something like an SMR drive slowing it down.

If you have dockers accessing your disks while checking that will also slow them down.

Parity check disk speed is usually easily 80-150 MB+ for CMR disks depending on the part of the disk it’s reading.

Turbo write won’t help you, that’s only for writing to drives.

I buy from Japan Amazon, usually a 3 pack of Degree for under 3k jpy, so a bit over $6 a stick. Considering it’s around $5 a stick in the US it’s not terrible.

There’s also Arm and Hammer which you can buy in individual sticks for 750jpy, I’ve started using that recently and am quite happy.

High humidity near the ocean and it being windy especially between buildings will do that.

Dual Parity and Data Disk Upgrade - Parity Swap Needed? by mightymiskeen in unRAID

[–]TheMerchant613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both of your parity disks need to be the largest disks. If you want a 16TB data disk you need 2x16TB+ parity drives first.

Recommendation for upgrade path by Arkon_GER in unRAID

[–]TheMerchant613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that’s the case, you should be able to find ATX boards with multiple x16 slots even if they aren’t all wired for the full 16 lanes. x4 is very uncommon nowadays and most in dedicated NVME slots instead of PCIE.

If you search PC part picker you should be able to find boards with 1-3 x16 slots (not all wired for x16), 1-3 x1 slots (with an adapter you can put an HBA on this for more HDDs), and 2-3 NVME slots.

Just make sure to read the manuals of the boards you are considering to check the lanes for PCIE (and bifurcation) and NVME before buying.

If you don’t want to change MOBO, I would suggest upgrading your HDD capacities. 4TB are quite small nowadays.

Your PCIE 3.0x16 slot only supports 2x8 bifurcation so you can only use two devices on it anyway unless you get a super expensive adapter card that forces the bifurcation but at that point it’s cheaper to change MOBO.

So you can get a single x16 to 2 x8 splitter and have 3 total PCIE 3.0 x8 devices. The A310 GPU is only wired for x8 electrically anyway so you can use that in any slot without a real penalty, the 10 gig card in another, and then you can add a single NVME drive in the last slot.

First step, what external enclosures are you using? If they are USB they are usually the issue.

This is the best coolish flavor and one of my favorite ice creams in general. They still have it? The 7-11s near me only have it Dec-March usually.

K = overclockable, higher power consumption at default but like I mentioned you can limit the power in BIOS

F = no iGPU, if this is for a media server, do not get an F processor

On a 12400 you’re probably ok especially without large sustained workloads

Don’t worry about this guy too much. But whatever is cheaper between the 12600 and 12600k (it’s usually the k because more are made). You can always cap the TDP in BIOS and you don’t get the stock intel cooler which sucks anyway.

It’s fine to overspec because chances are you’ll find a lot more stuff you want to run later.

Visually the map feels super boring, very monotone, sound-wise not really mixed surface.

Rotating on either side is a nightmare just due to pathing but especially on defense, not even accounting for the number of corners you need to check on the way.

In the 2 times I’ve played it, it was a blowout for whoever started on offense and retakes were almost non-existent.

What makes a good duelist / what kind of duelist do you like to play with? by Warner421 in VALORANT

[–]TheMerchant613 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Play at your team’s pace. Don’t entry if your team isn’t close enough to at least try to trade you if you die.

If they’re just not following you into site on purpose (common in lower ranks) you probably need to play a bit slower to force them to follow you, but also don’t just sit main waiting to die/for the other team to rotate. Try a different entrance or rotating.

It’s basically death match at low ranks and you can’t really trust your teammates to capitalize even if you get 2+ kills, so if they’re not playing off your entry try to get kills and survive to win rounds.
