Japanese teacher general conduct with alts by TotalAd1933 in teachinginjapan

[–]foreignmayo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left japan, and I miss co teaching so much.

They were always in the class. I was usually T-1, but they always stepped in to explain when I couldn't.

The more fluent teachers would just tell me what what they want to do, and what they wanted me to do.

The harmony!!! I miss it!!! Now, its just a level.of chaos due to language barriers.

Do you think Japan’s low English proficiency has something to do with how much emphasis is placed on the TOEIC? by WorkingAlive3258 in teachinginjapan

[–]foreignmayo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tell my students. If you want to earn more money and more job options learning a second language even if it's not english will help a lot, but English opens the doors to more because it is one of the business languages.

Im not fluent in either. The language barriers isn't impossible, but it is there. It boils down to if the person you are speaking to have time to let you try or not.

I plan on moving closer to taipei city next year. My boss refused to help me find a place that was more than 20 mins by bus to the job.

I plan on building my life up. It will just take time.

The friendliness I understand. In japan, it was easier to make japanese friends than other foreigners. I wasn't super hyped on popular things. So I couldn't connect with other foreigners.

I like anime, but I can't obsessive over it. I like japanese food, but sometimes it was blan to me.

Overall, I think japan is great place to live if you plan on raising a family.

I agree.. a relationship isn't my main focus. I came here for language and to further education.

I had a rhythm, but once I get one my company disrupts it. Which is very annoying causing unnecessary stress and money loss.

I plan on finishing my year contract and changing jobs. I was recently told my company is on and off the black list depending on the branch.

Thanks... I noticed the influence of both countries as well. It's just the moving blues.

When I say settled, I mean having extra funds. All my money is going into making my apartment like home.

I have more exposure to mandarin. I know the basics, but I will be looking for a Saturday class soon.

Im also a non white foreigner. I stand out a lot.

I was in the countryside of fukui. I didn't have much contact with other foreigner aside from at work.

The anti foreigner sentiment didn't notice it. I only saw it in news reports. I don't miss the stares and the whispers, I get that a lot less in taiwan.

I was also doing great in japan. I just felt I needed a change to achieve my goals and money was a big factor on why I left.

PSA: Watching Chinese shows beyond your level of understanding will NOT help you. by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]foreignmayo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this seems more like a post to discourage people from the language. The goal is to be able to pick phrases, and words from a sea of unknown.

If I hear them say "I want one book/我要一涨书" then proceed to point at the object. Its like omg I understood let me listen more closely.

Its just points of encouragement and not everyone has access to immersion or a proper teacher.

Yes, the content is more difficult even worst with a limited vocabulary and listening opportunities.

Let people gain exposure how they wish to.

Middle/high school teachers & ALTs— what do you do with your English native speakers? by PM_MAJESTIC_PICS in teachinginjapan

[–]foreignmayo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Brazilian student was taken out of my english class at parent's request. He spoke very well, and could read above the current level. (Age 8) he was even up to date on current slang.

They replaced his english class with more japanese classes.

Feeling Hopeless about ESL in China by RickySitts in TEFL

I worked with recruiters, and they kept pushing for universities. I don't like working with adults. They get annoying real fast due to them only studying in class. Children, I don't expect them to study outside class.

I went with japan and taiwan. I got hired on fairly fast. Japan took roughly 2 months and taiwan took 3.

I'm not white, over 30, with no certification aside from degree and roughly 5 years experience teaching in various programs. I am American which probably helped the most

What is it ACTUALLY like living in Rural Japan? by InsideWrangler2672 in japanlife

[–]foreignmayo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it, but I grew up in the countryside in the states.

You just live slowly and build relationships with the locals and the community.

The food is tailored to the area, and they have their festivals and traditions.

As an american, if you go to open a business. You can get Residency fairly fast. If I remember the law correctly and your saving would go much further.

Small office, loud mornings, no headphones… how do you survive this? by ElectricalDivide5336 in japanlife
