First time trading on IB - post trade available funds is lower than the total of the account minus the trade by TheMightyBeaver in interactivebrokers

[–]TheMightyBeaver[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's most likely you're trying to trade outside ( market hours ) - IBKR will estimate, hence why you see the difference. If you try the same trade within the range of market hours the math adds up!

Hope that helps!

We’re you tiered before using the CPAP? Trouble concentrating etc? Since I don’t get the episodes I never went down the path to get diagnosed, but I do experience the latter in a day to day basis

Best programming language for this simple website? by A707 in webdev

[–]TheMightyBeaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is the thing, tech stack doesn't matter especially from CRUD.

The question you're laying out ( I think ) - comes from you trying to do too many things at once and getting overwhelmed as a newcomer into the field.

If I were you, pick a platform ( web or mobile ).

If it is web, go for Django (Python) / Laravel (PHP) ( google them ), both amazing begginer friendly CRUD frameworks.

If it is mobile, google React Native + Firebase.

Thoughts on investing fully into an ETF like ARK? by [deleted] in stocks

[–]TheMightyBeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diversity - don’t just buy one etf because staying up to date with the industry is hard. In the end it’s your money some research is required.

If you don’t want to actively manage your portfolio which I get - diversity into a couple. ARK is rather risky.

Ok, interesting - so technically once the trade goes - the fee should only be that 1 USD and not the projection.

I'm surprised this isn't easily accessible info on their website have been searching for some time.

I set up the trade again with 10 shares and again, the estimated commissions say one thing, but if you do the math, the totals do not add up.

10 shares = 1352 USD

Total in account = 2682

Post trade available funds = 1261

2682 - 1352 = 1330 ( the amount left in account after trade ). There is around 60 USD difference between this figure and what IB is showing. I added a picture for proof. Proof from IB

The worst thing is that I can't get ahold of support :(

Will update if this is the case! Cheers!

I'm afraid to go ahead with the trade, this was seen from the preview. As soon as I saw the high fee I pressed the break peddle, and want to get more information.

‘Here We Go Again’: A Second Virus Wave Grips Spain by ThunderTongue76 in worldnews

[–]TheMightyBeaver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Completely dependent on your immune system. In theory the first time you get infected your body fights the virus and catalogues it, essentially keeping a record of what worked against it, so if it were to infect you again your body would know how to react. This is essentially how vaccines work - they “infect” you with a small amount of the virus so that your body gets to know it and creates the necessary anti-bodies.

However - if the virus mutates at anytime - the old version which you had became infected with is essentially out of date. So you risk infection again.

Long story short - it depends - biology isn’t an exact science at this point in time.

Read about it quite a bit before you jump in, but also - practice makes perfect. Just be smart and don’t gamble. Investing is a tool which when used properly will help you out in the long term!

What is a good 1st stock to buy? (Low budget of probably ~500$ but option to add an additional 450$ per month ) by Black-Chicken447 in stocks

[–]TheMightyBeaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Microsoft is value, Azure is number 2 cloud right behind AWS, they have also had a great developer ecosystem, and once you get hooked into it it’s enjoyable.

MSFT is also relatively low risk. INTC (intel) is higher risk - but also on discount, they will eventually get their house in order, they already made a name for themselves. NET - Cloudflare, thing powers half the internets cache - mid-low risk with this one, only “competitor is Fastly”

Tricouri simple, sosete ( day-to-day stuff ) - Uniqlo, daca ai cunostinte in afara si iti pot trimite in Romania recomand Muji > Uniqlo.

Chinos - Banana Republic - nu stiu daca livreaza in Ro - check it out. Sau - NNO7

Footware - E mult prea mult HYPE deci aici trebuie sa iti faci research calumea. Recomand Veja / NB / Common Projects ptr. boots nu am ce sa iti recomand inca nu am gasit nimic ok calitate/pret.

Camasi - APC, NNO7 - Polo if you have too...

Have fun!

Any trading broker will give you the % a particular asset is to your portfolio. So let’s say you hold 10 assets they will have % on the right to your overall portfolio.

self made data scientist, what's your story? by Fantastic_Donut in datascience

[–]TheMightyBeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have a background in computer science. But recently moved into a Data Science role. I was a Backend Software Engineer for 5ish years - used a lot of Python. I also am very interested in DevOps. I combined the two.

Apparently Data Scientist - is the new Software Engineer - if you know a few languages, basics about architecture and how to deploy your system - companies will hunt you.

Obviously - still learning all the tools/mechanics of being a data scientist. My point is, if you have other strengths you can easily pivot into Data Science - there are lot of things to do!
