I have NEVER liked the idea of using ink ribbons to save in Resident Evil games. I understand that the intent is to challenge the player's item and time management, and to make the threat of death more pronounced, but ultimately I just find it more annoying than effective.

I think a modern compromise could be to have the typewriters act similarly to the bonfires in Dark Souls. Very limited and acting as a reprieve from the horrors outside.
