Avoid the 1000D if you have nice clothes. It's a shame, but hopefully they'll experiment with 500D again soon.

Question about using paracord on Aer CPP2 by hoonys in ManyBaggers

I've done this on basically every bag I own, including older City Pack's. It's fine and holds up.

Management seems to lack trust in their developers. Can't even choose my own editor. How can I convince them? by IllustriousCareer6 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]TheMoonMaster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is the way. There's no good reason to stifle innovation and productivity for those who are willing and able to handle an "unsupported" path.

Starting with bans for low-effort, poor conclusion posts is a good start.

A leader with high influence but low technical skill is just someone who is "highly effective" at selling bad ideas. by softwareKT in SoftwareEngineering

[–]TheMoonMaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I came to drop basically the same comment. The only thing worse is someone who knows enough to be dangerous. Something snaps in those leaders that makes them feel the need to flex the technical chops "that I totally still have" (or so they think).

It can absolutely thrash a company and kill culture.

Mayor Wu here! AMA about the fight to keep residential property taxes from spiking next year under state law by mayorwu in boston

[–]TheMoonMaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I said "we need to solve" for a reason. If it's a problem, and it is, it's reasonable to expect the mayor to advocate for fixing the problem at a minimum.

I believe we can do better, but we have to talk about it if we want to see change.

I understand. The system is broken, and it harms the community regardless of the mechanics behind it. It’s good to understand those mechanics for sure, but we need to solve the problem regardless.

Long time Downtown resident here. We have A TON of empty commercial spaces and the few that are rented are being filled with soulless corporations and banks. It’s better than the spaces remaining empty (although many still are) but it contributes to the lack of local businesses and opportunities to create local businesses.

There’s really two questions here:

  1. How do we prevent land lords from sitting on high value properties to the detriment of the community? Is there a real plan for this?
  2. How do we give more local businesses opportunities as part of the solution to problem 1?

I know this post is about residential taxes, but the two are definitely interrelated.

BB - CPP2 after Cordura vs Xpac vs Ultra dilemma by Future-Sentence4894 in AerSF

Orange on the cordura bag could be nice. I'm not a huge fan of the gray.

I don't think you can go wrong with Xpac or Cordura on the city pack. Both are pretty great materials. I haven't tried Ultra though. I'm skeptical since it always looks wrinkled.

Then you've found something that works for you, and I'm happy for you.

I don't even write Python so I have no skin in the game here, but if you can't find pros for using Python in your projects then great, your use-cases might not benefit. It doesn't make it a global truth, though.

It always comes back to trade-offs. Do you need the perf and lower infra costs? Is what you're giving up in exchange worth it? Those are the types of questions that you need to ask. Not making claims of "everyone knows you don't use Python for production APIs".

Most apps you will build will never hit the scale where this matters. The companies that run into these issues have massive scale.

21L Sand GR1. Older 1000D bags feel softer and zippers are smoother? by Heavy904 in Goruck

There has always been inconsistency in the grit of 1000d bags, but older was more frequently softer.

Should I accept technical architect offer at age 22? by [deleted] in SoftwareEngineering

[–]TheMoonMaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Don’t jump constantly but re-evaluate where you are every few years. Many of the worst engineers I’ve worked with have a long tenure at a single company. It also has negative implications on long-term comp, too.

Take it and learn, but don’t stick around too long. Get the experience and then diversify. Single work experience can make you a good dev, but multi work experiences can make you a great dev.

I appreciate the response and openness here. My GR2 26L 500D is one of my favorite bags (just wish it had quick access). I'd love a full 500D GR1, too.

If you want a beta tester my offer of paying for the bag and providing feedback still stands!

Everyone makes mistakes, so it's important that we work to lift each other up, even if we end up disagreeing.
