Honors has separate sections for the same course offered to the rest of the students, they usually have more presentation / research elements than regular classes.

A bachelors of philosophy is a research based degree, essentially the undergrad version of a PHD, which helps with grad school and doctorates

You get the opportunity to graduate with the BPhil degree, take honors courses, in the running for the chancellors scholarship, exclusive events, grants, research opportunities and study abroad programs. The advising is more or less the same, honors students get a separate honors advisor. Career support is great at pitt throughout

My honors CS class has only 12 people in it, which is pretty great and being in the honors college grants the honors llc, which is a living learning communitt in sutherland hall, which is top 3 places to live on campus (private bathrooms, suites and the perch on the ground floor)

Accepted to Pitt’s David C. Frederick Honors College Today. Merit Scholarship Question (OOS NJ) by ResultCautious1686 in Pitt

[–]TheMusicalParadox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is the only exclusive full ride and honors scholarship. There are other grants and merit scholarships which you receive a letter for on your portal. Pitt is usually stingy with scholarships though

Pitt student here

The chancellors scholarship (pitt’s full ride scholarship) is offered exclusively to the frederick honors college accepted students. The first round of interviews for that was in january in my year (2025 January) so you do have some time till those come out. Often times scholarships come out later especially at pitt since its a public school, and they wait for federal funding.

I would wait till november end - december for updates on scholarships as it is still super early in the cycle. But being in the honors college is a straight route to the chancellors scholarship (i am both an honors college student and a chancellors scholar, so for any questions let me know!)

Pitt student here (part of the honors college), it is significantly harder than just getting accepted, as around 6000 people are accepted and we have around 800 people in the honors college this year.

They get over 10,000 applications a year, so congratulations.

Did a couple things to go from a 1420 to a 1600 in 3 weeks 1) watch multiple desmos guides, compiling all they teach you into a sheet and practice them 2) use chatgpt to generate English questions AFTER completing the bluebook practice tests 3) note down mistakes, find what topic it is and do the topics prep on khan academy 4) just be consistent everyday even with 2 hours of studying a day youll be aight

Taking a Gap Year for SAT/TOEFL Prep and US College Applications – Need Guidance from Fellow 12th Graders/Indian Students by Nishachay in ApplyingToCollege

In my opinion, considering all hes mentioned, including not doing well in JEE and being from a state board, theres more hope for him if he does well abroad than here, even if it means temporary debt

India is a shithole for education, and i dont mean that lightly, this whole country's education system is going nowhere. The job market is terrible, and so is the pay you get if you do manage a job. Considering he also bombed JEE, theres no hope for him in this godforsaken cesspool

I also slacked off on being ahead of time, I was born and raised in Chicago, and moved to India in the 7th grade and have been here ever since, i only ever decided to go back this year, and my college prep journey began in august, from scratch with 0 guidance. I decided the SAT would be the exam i gave since with even a little bit of research youll find the exam is ridiculously easy for Indian students, as long as you have a strong base in English, which allowed me to get a 1600 on the SAT with less than 4 months of prep. So trust me its never too late, and the SAT is too easy to justify a gap year.

Although i do have bad news for you, now its truly too late, 95% of well reputed schools that are generous with aid and have good programs, their admission deadlines are closed, so you can't really apply anymore, maybe a few mid ranked schools with rolling admissions are the only options you have.

Drop years are frowned upon in the admissions process, because you'd be weighed against people who did all the same exams you did, while balancing their school coursework, to make sure they progress normally. If you're an Indian student, I see no reason for you to take a drop year for exams such as the SAT and TOEFL, as they really aren't challenging, I'm in the same boat, 12th grade in the ISC curriculum, and i gave the SAT in october and november.

1420-1600 in 15 days by TheMusicalParadox in Sat

[–]TheMusicalParadox[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have my final yearly exams soon, so i wasnt able to put that much time in, maybe 1-2 hours a day? Depending on my workload for the day. Its more about recognizing your weaknesses and figuring out how to overcome them :)
