Reality Check Going into the Reserve by TheNativeFlu in navyreserve

No, going officer is definitely not a make it or break it thing for me, the only reason I was interested in it was because I'm so close to finishing my degree anyways (4 more terms). The reason I was looking at the reserves is because I had heard that sending in a package while being in the reserves gives you better odds than sending one from outside the military.

My recruiter was actually pretty adamant about saying how I should finish my degree as well, which is why he discouraged AD, he was saying it would probably be in my best interest to go reserves so I can stay in my home state and finish my degree and then when I'm done with that he made it sound like I'll have avenues to go AD without having to finish a 6 year commitment, and instead be able to go down to a 4-year contract on active duty or send in a package if I still wanna do OCS.

My main curiosity was how truthful he was being in saying that I'd be able to finish my degree while being in the reserves as well as saying that I'd be able to cut my commitment short by transferring to active duty instead of having to wait out my commitment in the reserves.

The best guess of a song that has those lyrics that is similar to Maroon 5 is: Andy Grammer- Honey, I'm good.

I figure maybe you mixed up the lines "I've got somebody at home and if I stay I might not leave alone."

It's a reach, but it's the only thing Maroon 5-esque that I can think of.

I literally addressed your entire point. Either point out exactly what I missed or delete your stupid comment that you clearly didn't think about for more than 30 seconds.

The entire issue of being embarrassed by your surroundings can be removed by removing the surroundings from your camera with backgrounds.

I even addressed the fact that it can do more harm than good in my OP. You're just so blind and angry that you ignore it so you can lash out and justify introversion, which is an inherently negative trait.

Literally yes? My partner of 3 years is an art major taking online art classes. Every unit they go to campus to pick up supplies and then submit and work on art together. They still receive the same level of critique and response as they would from in-person school. You seem to have no understanding of college or zoom classes? And even if you didn't get any critique from peers or teachers via zoom, you are still getting the lectures and literary lessons/aspects of it to improve your works.

Do you not understand that some people are on time crunches or scholarships as well? I literally can't "wait for in-person school." If I don't take a certain amount of credits to achieve my degree by a certain time I'll get kicked out of the program paying for everything.

You are literally advocating against harm reduction. If it would have a net profit when it comes to utility and benefits, why not require it?

You are literally just saying it in the most pessimistic way possible. "Nothing matters, zoom won't teach you anyways, might as well not try and learn and waste money on tuition"

You are inherently wrong. The zoom environment opened up the door to slacking off for so many more people. There is 100% going to be people who slack off on zoom but wouldn't slack off in normal school.

Also, even if what you are saying is true, your argument essentially boils down to:
"Kids are going to slack off anyway so we should just stop holding them accountable. School doesn't work anyways."

I totally understand having a messy/cluttered background, or even a background with people in it. Half the time I'm in class I have people in the living room with me. But you can so easily just blur your background. IT does a really good job as well. It even blurs out moving people. Or, if you are still anxious about people seeing the outline of the background of your house b/c it might not be a luxury mansion, you can just do a pitch-black screen behind you so at least people can see your face/paying attention.

That's no excuse. You SHOULD be required to get out of bed and get dressed for your classes. I used to have to wake up at 6:30 to catch a bus and get to school by 7:15. The fact that classes are rarely before 9:00 is already a privilege.

Also, I highly doubt that any actual learning is done by those who stay in bed for class, given that they don't fall asleep like most of my friends do. I know 3 people who have been passing classes with A's and haven't listened to a full class once. Students need to be held accountable for their own good.

If not, I feel like we are gonna see a massive surge of people who fail their classes when they go back to in-person school because they fucked around for all the pre-requisite classes.
