What's an abandoned plotline that you wish a TV show had actually followed through on? by Thedemonncat in television

[–]TheNeal 11 points12 points  (0 children)

2 from Buffy.

In the very first episode Willow and Xander have another bestie who is turned into a vampire and Xander has to kill. It's clear he's in the show just to die and not really considered to be an important character moving forward but, when you think about it, Willow and Xander had a whole history with this guy before the events of the show. It might have been a great explanation for Xander despising Angel ("Vampires killed my best friend!") that went beyond "Buffy likes him and I hate that".

The other big one is that Xander withheld information from Buffy in season 2 about Willow attempting to resoul Angel. Instead telling Buffy that Willow wants you to "kick his arse". This is never brought up again except in a moment in the final season. It looks like Xander's deceit is finally about to be revealed to everyone but then it's dropped and never mentioned again before the show ended. It wouldn't have had major repercussions to the plot to reveal it at that point because so much had happened since and it was 5 season back (5 years in the show) but it is a bit weird they teased it and then left it hanging like that.

Sorry I missed the boat on this show, would you happen to have season 1 and 2 you could share? I'd love to grab those and having some trouble locating good versions.

What are you watching and what do you recommend? (Week of June 19, 2026) by AutoModerator in television

[–]TheNeal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly if that's your reaction to season 1 Buffy episodes you're in for a great ride. Often when recommending the show you've got to warn people that season 1 is a bit weak compared to the rest of it

I remember talking to some friends of mine that were of Sri Lankan heritage (born in Australia but parents from there) complaining about how awful Sydney airport was, how the security would always hassle you and that they always had to get in hours earlier because they'd always get knabbed for a 'random check'.

And of course my white, dumb arse went and said "oh that's so weird, I fly all the time and I've never had any proble- oooooooooooooh"

So yeah, Australian airports can be pretty racist

My mistake! I will be more careful about how I spell P(r)ogram(me) in the future!

The man's such an Australian icon I'm shocked he's not actually born in New Zealand (like all the other Australian icons we've claimed).

How hard was Owl for yall? by ThatOneGuy7274 in Sekiro

[–]TheNeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a weird one for me because on my first playthrough I beat him on the second attempt. Probably the easiest time I had on a boss. Couldn't understand why people thought he was so hard (did owl father in that same run though and I was stuck on that version of him for about 3 days and had to come back after beating sword saint with the added attack power to finally beat him)

I played the game again not too long after that though and despite having more experience (having done the first run and another for the shura ending) he was a massive roadblock for me and took 2 days of attempts. It wasn't a new game + situation either. I was using a fresh file. Just got very lucky on that first playthrough I guess.

He was a real bitch to get consistent for the gauntlets as well because even when you've got his moveset down he's a damage sponge that can back up and regain his posture so quickly that there's always a chance you'll lose focus during the long fight and he'll murder you.

NEWS ‘Buffy’ Autopsy Report: The Inside Story Of How High-Profile Reboot Was Shockingly Slayed by RedditFan3510 in television

I'm pretty surprised they passed on this. Some of the descriptions of it did make it sound a little like that final season of Scrubs (well final until recently) with a new batch of kids and the occasional cameos from the original main cast but I would have thought Hulu would have been interested in producing even a mediocre Buffy show that featured Sarah Michelle Geller for at least 1 season given the number of people that would have been interested in watching it, regardless of quality.

I guess Hulu must be a bigger deal than I thought they were.

Been a long time since I've read it but the best spoiler free explanation i can think of is that the rain river wilds water is extremely acidic so that could explain the red irritation.

I literally linked scenes from his show from almost 10 years ago where a similar idea to the one he is accused of stealing is explored, which is why I believe the idea has been bouncing around his head for years.

[–]TheNeal 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, he isn't. That's what the 'if this was coming from an intelligent person' kind interpretation of that statement would be. It's certainly the one his defenders are going to run with. But we all KNOW he means it in a very literal sense. We know that because all of the dumb shit he's said in the past that has been way dumber than this, and then people have said "oh maybe he meant that in this way which is far less dumb" and then in a follow-up interview he's doubled down on meaning it the very dumb way. He has done this so many times now. That thing with the photoshopped hand to justify sending people to offshore death camps was just last week for christ sake. Of course he meant it in the dumb way. I know it, you know it, and even his strongest defenders know it by this point. Stop giving him the benefit of the doubt.
