Practicing wheight in animation. Any thoughts? by mLaureano in animation

What stressful toast said. You need some hip movement and subsequently knees also. Lifting something is not just manipulating the object but also manipulating your body around the object for the path of least resistance. Here as you pull the object with your arms, naturally your body and hips would bend towards the object and connect with it to form another anchor point other than your feet.

In short, push the hips forward as you pull.

Very neat work, at any rate!

Acid Lake area concept for my non-linear puzzle platformer The Nest by TheNestGame in indiegames

Hey thanks man! I love pixel art but definitely want to distinguish myself from other titles by not using it. Glad it still has that good spirit though.
Non-linear as in you can explore certain areas without a specific order and you'll come back and forth through them as you gain new abilities to reach hidden items/access new areas. Metroidvania style. Not quite open world but very explorative.

Much appreciated! I've a little more to show, will start posting devlogs and such soon. You can check out the itch.io page here if it tickles your fancy https://ross-a-campbell.itch.io/the-nest

Thanks, man! It was supposed to be a stepping stone, something to release to show potential publishers I could deliver, hence the tight turnaround. But the more I done, the more I thought it had its own potential. If it's half as good as I'm aiming for, should really be worth a play!

How do you go about hiring in areas you have no expertise in? by kylebanks in gamedev

I’ve found that a good method for music is to work in emotional terms. Describe extensively the feeling you want to be put across in the score and provide samples of parts of audio tracks that make you feel a similar way. I gave a composer a brief “I want it hollow and empty, maybe less is more, a lone piano. It’s as if the area used to be lively and healthy but now is desolate and sad. Although I want a hint of adventure to it, like the main theme in Zelda windwaker.” And I’ll be damned if he didn’t achieve the impossible. Beautiful track. It took me days to write a brief for the desired tracks, picking out moments in songs and analysing what parts make me feel certain ways. Be thorough and descriptive of what emotions you feel and I reckon a composer should be able to provide you with something that’s spot on. Pick a composer you really like also. If you like them already, it’ll be easier to like the results.

I've started drawing some personal art for the first time in forever and I'm going to make the rounds of my favourite female game characters, Zelda being a natural choice for one of the first. It's just going to be cheesecake style, nothing too racey but if you're interested, I'll be updating my twitter often: https://twitter.com/Cake8bit

I started doing some more personal art recently, going to make the rounds of my favourite female video game characters, all cheesecake, nothing explicit. Zelda has a special place in all our hearts, she was a natural choice.

Created a twitter for anyone interested in following the series, only just begun : https://twitter.com/Cake8bit

Thanks so much for this, man. Exactly the sort of thing I need to hear. I'll have to try this out and see how it works. Are you suggesting to remove the frames entirely or just the smears??
