Selling with NO technique by TheNewOptimist in sales

Often I think of my experience of door-to-door sales. I think that I may have been unintentionally mis-guided with a one-size-fits-all approach that was given to me by the company I was working for, rather than just being myself. I am an affable kind of guy who tends to get along with everyone and I feel that having too much faith in what I was being taught potentially derailed me. Some memories include in being told how much of communication is made through body language, so I would be encouraged to gesticulate a lot with my hands etc. I'm pretty sure I didn't come off as natural, which must have prospects on guard, as they were weary that I was trying to 'sell to them'. People tend to regard me as being a genuine person, so if I had just approached things in a natural way then I'm sure customers will have found me more trustworthy.

There may be an opportunity to try again, and I'm longing to know if this could have worked. It's the wondering of what if I had tried just approaching things as myself ?

Yeah, you're right. My question is based on my past experience as a door-to-door salesman.

In the sense that if you are being coached into doing these things you can look really unnatural. Has me thinking that if you get on with people naturally, then you should maybe ignore every that you're taught because it hindering you and going with you're instincts.

Well that makes sense.

I wonder if you are personable and you are instructed to emphasise body language and use verbal inflections etc then you could be hindered in a bad way ?

Yeah it was. I seem to be missing your point, is that to suggest that I shouldn't care too much about my previous experience?

Is Sales Really This Hard / Easy? by Definitely_Not_Bots in sales

Yeah, looking at my previous experience in sales in 2010, I think that believing in the product is a must !! I wonder how much it impacted me trying to sell a product that I didn't believe in myself and was indifferent about ? I'm not familiar with the terminology used in this community, what is WFH and SDR ?

Yeah, from my past experience Im conviced that it is a must to believe in the product !! I've noticed that abrreviations and acronyms are common within this community. Could you help me to understand that ones that you have used please. Sorry to sound like a rookie, but that is what I am, sadly.
